Char Steak & Lounge, Rochester NY

Great service and great food. My steak was cooked to perfection. Service was very friendly and attentive, we were late for our reservation and they were extremely accommodating to get us in and out before our escape room we were going to after. Great atmosphere and staff, probably my favorite restaurant in Rochester.

It is one of the best restaurants in Rochester IMHO.great drinks, execution of food preparation is on point, attentive professional service, with an upscale atmosphere.

Had fun with a work group here and as always this place is excellent. Tonight it was the Pumpkin Soup with crab meat. Was delicious! Tell em Dave sent ya!

Went here a few months ago and had An amazing experience, just went tonight for my girlfriends birthday and had the worst experience I have ever had at a “nice” restaurant. Waited 20 minutes for our waiter to come over, waiting another 30 minutes for 2 glasses of wine to come and they weren’t even busy at all, finally ordered food and waited over 45 minutes for the food to come out and then our waiter never came back again. Over all had about an hour and half of just waiting on the server. The food was decent but my steak was about as good as an Olive Garden steak, which was $60, horrible. I had to go to the front to get my check. I wouldn’t recommend and I will not be going back, honestly the worst service I have ever seen. I feel like I would get better service in a fast food restaurant in the inner city. Horrible.

Over priced. Onion soup was horrible. No taste, basically a brother with maybe some onion flavored. Best thing hot bar tender

Food was absolutely delish. I had the double bone pork with pickled onions and chutney that was cooked perfectly with a finish that lives up to their name. The sides were also very good, I opted for Mac and cheese and also got a few others to share with our party so they were good sized portions. The drinks were also very well made and presented well

Had breakfast here every morning. The food was consistently excellent. Very expensive, like an airport restaurant range of expensive. I wouldn't eat here if I were paying. But if your room comes with free breakfast or if it's on the company dime, don't miss it.

Great spot to grab a solid steak in the rocha. Good apps and if you have kids and they have a little pallet you will please them as well.

FOOD SAFETY WARNING: the scallops had a pungent ammonia taste and caused significant nausea and stomach pain.

SERVICE WAS SLOW AND ATROCIOUS. We had a reservation for 4 on Sunday at 7pm. We ordered 2 appetizers (pictured), 4 entrees, and 2 sides, and waited for over an hour and half before we got the entrees and sides. We had three steaks and one scallop dish, all of which were lukewarm to cold. The French fries and charred corns were warm and good though.
After tasting the scallops, we found the server Mark, who took the dish back to the kitchen with no further effort to address the situation whatsoever. He didn’t ask if we were feeling okay, if there’s anything they could do. The only other mention of this happening at all was when he handed us the check and said “I took the scallop off. ”

I rarely leave reviews, but this was bad beyond belief. It was a waste of time and money. I do not recommend this place, unless all you care about is getting booze and some French fries. Good luck.

Update: another friend in our group who didn’t have the scallop threw up 2 times after dinner yesterday night. Is this a detective game where you figure out which dish is bad based on who in a group has food poisoning and who didn’t?

This place was incredibly disappointing. Our party of 4 arrived at 7 PM, and despite the half-full restaurant, we proceeded to wait 1.5 hours to get our cold and dangerous food. We got scallops, which tasted like ammonia, so we immediately returned it but are now currently experiencing bad stomach aches and nausea. The steaks we ordered were cold to the touch and didn’t taste very good. With the awful dining experience, I do NOT recommend anyone ever coming here.

Husband searched restaurants in Rochester NY and this was one that came up. It was a very nice atmosphere our waiter Paul was fabulous! And the food was delicious!

It was one of the worst places that I've ever eaten at. The steaks was cold the mac and cheese I had ordered was cold and had a real funky smell to it. When I sent the mac and cheese back the only thing what they told me was that they'll take it off my order I would not recommend this place to anyone!

I took my boyfriend to Char for his birthday last night, a Friday. We had a reservation for 7 o’clock and arrived right at seven. We were seated in a large booth by the window facing the street and it was quiet at first, but then it picked up because the restaurant is adjacent to the bar. But it wasn’t too loud and it was actually nice. They are, of course, a steakhouse, but neither of us had steak. He had a snapper special and I had the bucatini that’s on the menu. Both were delicious! We also shared the brussels sprouts and shared a wedge. Both good, but the brussels sprouts were really something else! Super yummy. I had one of their fun cocktails and my partner had wine. All was perfect. Our server, Allison was just the kind of server we love. She was friendly, down to earth, funny and really helped us choose the best meals for us. Char is a fine dining experience that doesn’t feel too stuffy and isn’t full of snotty people. Neither one of us had ever been, but we will definitely go back.

We had deer meat and steak. Love the oysters. A little pricey but acceptable. The environment is different than what I expected because it is in a hotel lobby.

My friend and went her for drinks. We didn't eat. The drinks were great! And the bartender was outstanding! Joe is his name he was so helpful! I totally recommend this place. I will definitely be back I want to try the food it looked delicious as the servers were bringing it to other tables. Recommend

Char Steak & Lounge delivers excellent service paired with outstanding food. This restaurant is absolutely stunning from the inside-out. Highly recommend

Excellent food and a great weight staff. I had the Charbage plate. A play of words on the Rochester garbage plate. Two 4 oz of filet with their mac and cheese and hash brown potatoes underneath. It was delicious and I would order it again
