Chatham Square Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, New York NY

Had a coronectomy (partial extraction) of an impacted wisdom tooth with Dr. Ray Cheng. The procedure was quick with minimal discomfort performed in office under local anesthesia. Everything has since healed nicely, with 6 month followup. I can attest to Dr. Cheng's clinical and technical acumen. His office was easy to communicate with for appointments and obtaining X-ray copies for my general dentist. I highly recommend a consultation with Dr. Cheng if you are seeking an oral surgeon.

I brought my oldest daughter here for a wisdom tooth extraction. Dr. Cheng was not only very professional, but extremely detail and patient with my daughter and I. Entire staff are all very nice and understanding as well. I really had a great experience, so much that I took my youngest back for another tooth surgery and now my husband is also seeing Dr. Cheng for a tooth extraction. Dr. Cheng and staff is definitely one of the better dentist practice I’ve seen in past few years

Dr. Chang is the man! So grateful having a dentist that can put me at ease with an extraction, never an easy thing! Come here with no hesitation and also greatly appreciate how thorough he was in answering all my questions!

Friendly staffs! Came here for tooth extraction, afterwards Dr. Cheng would send an email to ask if everything is okay. At the beginning I was very nervous about the tooth implant but then after it was painless. Like!

**A phenomenal experience, couldn’t have been better! **
I was on vacation in New York and had progressively severe pain radiating from my lower jaw. I could tell it was a wisdom tooth trying to ruin my life. I did a search for Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons near the area I was staying, who received great reviews, and who could take me the same day. I found Dr. Cheng at Chatham Square who set me an immediate appointment. I was terrified.
As soon as I got to the office, I was somehow relieved by his sweet staff who handled my x-rays and pre-op care. When Dr. Cheng came in the room for my consultation, I knew I was safe and that everything was going to be okay. He walked me through the process, told me exactly what was going to happen, and gave me time to ask questions. The extraction was not painful at all and besides the hygienists assisting him, he had a whole team member in the room just to hold my hand!
Dr. Cheng is a wonderfully kind surgeon who personally followed up with me over the next few days to see how I was feeling. I am thrilled with the care I received and will definitely traverse the world to go back if I ever need any related procedures in the future. Thank you Dr. Cheng and team!

Great experience here today. Looking forward to the post op followup next week. Details below:
- New patient so arrived early (30 min) to fillout paperwork, provided referral info.
- We had to wait a while (1.5 hrs after my appt time) so do plan your parking/trip accordingly. I had to run out to feed the meter. It could have been the timing as no one else was in waiting room (~9 chairs) by the time we were seen by doc. In the beginning, my kid went in for a quick xray. One of the assts also apologized for the long wait for my kid.
- The wait was worth it. As today was only a required consult appt, I asked if I could setup a followup appt this week for oral surgery. One of the front desk assts recommended I try to do the surgery today to save a trip which I agreed as I didn’t even know that was an option! Would have to see the doc and hear what he says.
- My kid did a CAT scan and then we went to the patient room. The doc reviewed the 3D image and advised his analysis. We agreed to do the surgery.
- Dr. Cheng and his team of op assts held my kid’s hands and comforted with so much patience and empathy. Dr. Cheng also frequently asked for feedback if everything was OK and informed of status. What was great was in the beginning when he was applying the needle numbness agent, he noticed my kid going into a fear / panic state and asked him if he would like to take a break which we did. After he calmed down, we went thru the process again until the end successfully. We went to another room for a post op debrief and then to front desk for setting up followup appt and paying the CAT scan which wasn’t covered by my insurance (asst did inform me beforehand though which I agreed to pay).
- Shared bathroom is also around the corner
- Office clean and in professional state
- So as summary, everyone from front desk ladies, doctor and his assts were all friendly, informative, smart, empathetic and efficient. I’m glad I made the trip here and would recommend coming here again for any future oral surgery treatment.

I came to Dr. Cheng to get my wisdom teeth removed. Being someone who has a SEVERE fear of needles and surgeries, Dr. Cheng and his entire team were beyond patient and kind with me. They held my hands during the procedure and took as many breaks as I needed to calm my anxiety and fear. The actual procedure itself was very quick and painless. I will be returning to Dr. Cheng for as long as they’ll have me!

Pros and cons of this office. Oral surgeon is decent. Pro is office assistance informs bluntly, pay everything out of pocket upfront and she will work on submitting claims if patient has insurance. Best to shop around own in the network insurance providers for comparable services. Cons- place is a “madhouse”, just like a factory, lack of in depth individualized attention, lack of front desk staffing assistance, reminds me of a Government FSA office

Wow, I had a great experience with Dr. Cheng. I never had a doctor that's so attentive and responsible. I had a minor procedure this morning. The staff are really responsive and bring the procedure to the minimum impact. After the procedure, Dr Cheng would send a follow up email to check on me. He answered my questions and concerns even late at night. What a surprise to me.

Dr. Cheng is so kind, professional, and wonderfully skilled! He has a calm, gentle chair side demeanor that puts you immediately at ease. He works quickly, efficiently, and most importantly, does a fantastic PAINLESS job.
My husband had his extraction, bone graft, and implant done with Dr. Cheng- day 3 after implant, still no pain! His staff was amazing at caring for us and making sure we understood everything post-op.
I literally recommend him and this office to all my family and friends.
