China New Star reviews
20Had a wonderful meal here on our way home from a day out in Manhattan. The quality of the food was so good. My kids went crazy for the sesame chicken. We had enough to take home for another meal and the the service was great. Highly recommend.
Ordered food hoping it was made fresh but tomorrow displeasement it was all microwave food if it was cold the other half is robbery very disappointment it's a shame it used to be a great place
The place is as good now as 30 years ago but the decor looks like the original. But we've never been disappointed.
Front counter lady is very nasty. They will continually call you every minute if you order pickup. What a terrible company. They used to be good I can only hope they are shut down
I'm not a fan of Chinese food in general but I remember coming here with some (who I'd consider foodie) friends YEARS ago. So, having a craving why not try? I am so happy I chose here to order. My bf and his mom ordered combination specials. He raved about the beef and broccoli. Me feeling like a lot of Chinese food tastes samey, I went with an egg roll, wonton soup, fried dumplings, and shrimp toast. Of course I couldn't finish all of that, but I wished I could for once. The egg roll was crispy without being greasy and there was less wrapper than I expected. Like, the ends weren't a mass of chewy unfried dough. There was still filling in the end bites. For being a small, there were 5 full sized wontons packed into the container. The pan fried dumplings were light. Not at all greasy with thin dumpling skins. So thin you could almost see the filling. Lastly, the shrimp toast was super crisp, not too greasy (which is hard when you're basically deep frying bread) and had delicious shrimp flavor. It wasn't overpowered by any additions some places use like ginger or green onion. It was just simple and tasty shrimp toast. The only reason I didn't give them a 5 star rating is because as I said in the beginning, I don't generally care for Chinese food. But I do recommend.
Wants to charge you for everything when its supposed to be accompanied by it, including for you to breath
Love the food and the Drinks! And the atmosphere is always warm and the owners make you feel like family
Food is good, the only complaint is they don't sell French fries and my kids loves french fries.
Food was good, service was good considering there was only one person waiting the whole dining room. The atmosphere is OK.
Good food but the atmosphere is not good.needs some tlc and some music during dinner would help the lack of atmosphere.
GREAT FOOD AT GREAT LOWER PRICES THAN THE NEXT RESTAURANT. THE ONLY REASON IT'S 4 STARS INSTEAD OF 5 IS THE DUCK SAUCE. IT'S TASTY BUT NOT IN SEALED CONTAINERS. THE LIDS POPPED OFF ON THE WAY HERE. I HAD VERY LITTLE LEFT BECAUSE IT SPILLED ALL OVER THE BAG AND MADE EVERYTHING STICKY.
MY SUGGESTION WOULD BE TO PLACE THE DUCK SAUCE SEPARATE FROM THE FOOD AND IN A MORE SECURE CONTAINER.
Five star food at three star prices cannot go wrong with this place I had the best pork fried rice and pepper steak of my life I've eaten a lot of Chinese food this place is my favorite
Disgusting customer service. The delivery guy is very aggressive, disrespectful and beg for tip saying he needs to pay for gas and the restaurant don’t pay him nothing. I don’t mind tipping and I do so I don’t understand why he delivers food thinking the tip is expected to pay his bills. I called the restaurant many times after he delivers my food and today I let it be known that the next the he acts aggressive towards me and comes off threatening I’ll call the cops and press charges. I order so many times from the restaurant with order over 50$ so I don’t understand why the customer service is so disgusting. NEVER BUYING FROM THIS ESTABLISHMENT AGAIN.
Horrible customer service, did not receive the correct items ordered. It was supposed to be chicken and shrimp but only received the chicken. The chicken was tough and dry even though it was in chili sauce. They argued with me and told me there were 5 shimp, which was not correct. Rude and obnoxious, I'll never order from there again.
First time we are trying on a recommendation and I’m so glad we did! Excellent fresh food and friendly service! We had pork egg foo young and it was loaded w fresh peas and chunks of pork. Also had the eggplant in garlic sauce w ground pork that was spicy and delicious and the Singapore noodles were also very good. Thanks Nick, this is our new go to Chinese restaurant. PS cute inside w a nice bar
Delicious food! Fresh, all clean and nice costumer service, a new great place to come back!
First time here! Idk what Barry Mckinlay is talking about. Food great! Had a wonderful lunch with my family, and hope to come again soon. ️
Honestly it's sad to say I had better chinese food from panda express. Got General Tso chicken and my lady got Sesame Chicken and both of us were like.is your chicken dry af. The rice was a bit mushy for me but she said it was ok. All in all got the order on a discount from uber eats so glad I got a discount to test out the place to begin with and will order from my usual spot from now on.
Edit: after reading the reviews and seeing how a lot of people complained about rude service as well I don't feel bad saying try China King it's much better.
Yeah Barry doesn't know what he is talking about. This place is a hidden gem.
Fried rice always has huge fresh delicious chunks of pork in it. Everything always comes out steaming hot and fresh. I order from here about once a month and never have a bad meal.
In fact I'm ordering from here tonight. I will take an add pictures later.
Honestly, could the service be better at times? Yeah.
But it's exactly the kind of service I expect from an old school joint like this.
If you don't feel like you're getting yelled at a bit, it's not authentic.
The owner who works the pickup/takeout window is a sweetheart though! Just like anyone get to know her. She is a very kind woman.
First, they charge the customer the credit card service fee. Which is expressly against merchant agreement. Customers aren't supposed to pay that fee as an add on cost. They sneakily add to bill and label in Mandarin.
Second, the lunch special ordered (L20) was an atrocity. The fried rice looked like it was colored/flavored with literal charcoal. No pork in the rice. No vegetables either. It was absolutely terrible! The entree was decent though pretty small. The included wonton soup had freezer burned wontons/dumplings. They were unpleasant. The broth was oily and lacked any actual flavor. The shrimp egg roll had exactly 2 small shrimp inside. Everything else inside was just cabbage. No carrot, no anything else.
Keep in mind, the food is priced on the slightly higher side, the portion thankfully (sarcasm) are undersized. And basic staple dishes (fried rice) are not even remotely close to actual fried rice.
Be prepared to spend your money on bland, boring or atrocious food.
