Clinton St. Baking Company reviews
15I was recommended this place by someone who has been coming here for over a decade and he had to apologize about the service. He ordered the Samon burger and they forgot his sweet potato fries and when he went back they said they didn't know he wanted it even though he said it and it comes with a side. They ended up giving him regular fries instead, which sucked cause it wasn't what he wanted but we just chalked it up to they was trying to go home. I had got the Shrimp and Grits which was good but it was definitely over priced to only come with 4 shrimps. My husband just wanted the waffles and I ended up making fried oyster mushrooms since he is a pescatarian an can't eat chicken anymore. Other than that we would come back maybe for brunch and sit inside instead of takeout
The best place to have breakfast! The food is delicious, Chicken waffles and pancakes are a spectacle.
We waited an hour to get a table but it was worth it.
Blueberry Pancakes were spectacular! The coffee isn’t overpowering, the bacon was crispy, French fries had a nice crunch to them. The service was great as they always made sure we had water and coffee, and they were warm and welcoming! First time also trying the Mexican Coffee, and the flavors complimented each other perfectly!
We ordered the Latke Eggs Benedict with house-smoked salmon to go. It's pictured as a half portion in this review. I also ordered the Brioche French Toast, as well. (Half portions in photos. The actual portions are huge at twice the size.)
Hollandaise was excellent, and the perfect amount was provided. One of the eggs was perfectly poached. The other egg had a solid yolk, which was a bit disappointing. I can't be positive, but I think the salmon was farm-raised, which was also disappointing, as it was a little too fishy. Note that the menu does not claim that it's wild salmon, so it likely isn't. The potato pancake was very dense and flavorful but was only crispy on one edge, also disappointing. I don't think I'd order this dish again.
The bread for the French Toast was at least 1.5" thick, very light with crispy edges, perfectly toasted. It was a little dry, but the maple butter helped with that. (The butter was very decadent and delicious.) Carmelized bananas and roasted pecans were on top. The bananas were tender and delicious and tasted kind of like apples. The pecans were also toasted to perfection.
On the day that I ordered, it was about 20 degrees and quite windy, so uncomfortable outside. I waited for about 20 minutes for my order outside of the takeout area on Clinton Street. There were people inside, but I wasn't invited to wait inside, though there were plenty of open seats and no one else waiting outside. I found that to be a bit inhospitable. (My order was on time, I just arrived early.)
It was okay. The food didn't have a distinct taste but the chai tea was amazing. It's a great little vibe but I'm not a huge fan of the food. It tasted like hotel food.
We had dinner here and really enjoyed it. We shared latke eggs Benedict which are served over crispy potato pancakes and were amazing (way better than over biscuit), and chocolate chunk pancakes with warm maple butter (really liked the butter and batter and consistency of the pancakes, but the chunks were a bit bitter for our liking. The place was a bit crowded and we felt a bit rushed by the service, but overall it was a nice experience.
Really nasty attitude from the waiters and to go window. Food is mid at best not really anything shocking.
I loved. All the food is spectacular. I tried the famous banana and walnut pancakes and uff. Very very delicious. The texture, the flavor. All very rich. The waiter who served us was very attentive and always had a smile. Very attentive to serving us properly.
It is a place that fills up easily. If you don't have a reservation (which is recommended) arrive early; at 9 o'clock
Been in this city for more than 2 decades and I am blown away at the fact that they make THEE best pancakes in all of NYC. I’ve been to Bubby’s, been to Golden Diner, & a few contenders in UES and while those spots are great too, none can compete with Clinton St. They make the perfect pancake with the perfect texture all the way down to the science. Their maple syrup is unique and extremely delicious. It’s like the pancakes mom would make on a saturday morning, that’s what it feels like here: if not, BETTER.
Pancakes cooked perfectly, eggs delicious, cool drink choices. The inside of this place is super cute, I loved it. Classic breakfast items on the menu nothing over the top nonetheless very tasty. Also loved the boozy milkshake.
Had a month out reservation and was looking forward to finally sitting down at this place. As soon I walked it and verified my reservation with the person at front, I was seated. It was Uber quick. The food and service was really good. Idk about a month out good but was happy to finally check this place off my list.
Worth the hype but not convinced it’s always worth the *wait*. Excellent food across the board, clean, attentive service, & kid-friendly (boosters AND highchairs). Top 5 greatest pancakes of all time. Be warned: if you show up 10mins past opening, you’re in for a 45+ min wait. By 10am, it’s easily at 2hrs. Be early! Space is tight, but comfortable.
Overrated and not worth the hype. The place is super cute, the food however is really not that special and overpriced. Any other diner in the US will charge half the price and probably serve better food. If you are a tourist and looking for a photogenic American diner place - this place is for you. Otherwise, I wouldnt recommend coming here.
The homemade sausages were really tough, and salty.
The pancakes were alright. The maple syrup was okay
Sorry to say that we are really disappointed…poached egg was overcooked, pancakes were nothing special…but the biggest problem is that your staff are touching inside of cups and glasses with dirty hands after handling money.
