The food was alright, I ordered the mama’s curry, the picture on menu doesn’t match the actual thing: (Also was trying to order the premium curry that was on their online menu, but when I got there they say they don’t have it.: Sage:

It is cash only (but no discount offered by paying cash

Make sure to arrive early to avoid lines. This place is stellar. Advertised as a Soba restaurant this place makes delicious and hearty Japanese food. Great tea too. Good for a date or to impress the family.

The food is usually good but I’m not sure what happened to night. I ordered the Silken Yet Juicy Steak Washu Gyu Bento box but it was no where near juicy. It was very dry with no sauce. It looked like it was boiled and served with no added seasoning or sauce. Very disappointing for a very expensive dish.

Cash only, ramen shop with a good selection of labeled (!) vegan dishes which is pretty rare for an Asian restaurant. They don’t take reservations, so show up early to get your name on the list. Highly recommend vegan ramen with yuba (tofu skin).

I had curry soba. It was good, especially for rainy day. Not extraordinarily good, but it’s above average of Japanese food in nyc. Chicken thigh katsu and eggplant were really great.

Staffs were also okay, but service was a little bit slow though it wasn’t a matter. Also, they only accept cash, so be prepared or you have to pay 3 dollar fee to withdraw money from the atm in this restaurant.

Fantastic noodles, so good. Really packed dressing though, and their front was under some construction.

Soba specialist. I recommend ordering cold soba or dipping soba to preserve the buckwheat noodle’s texture. You pay a premium for the handmade stuff (as opposed to frozen in the supermarket) for its firm “al dente” bite; soba softens when sitting in hot liquid for as few as two minutes.

Restaurants that don’t specialize in soba almost certainly use the dehydrated or frozen kind. Cocoron is the rare few that make it fresh. Savor its texture.

The yakuzen soup is also highly recommended. It’s a lighter and healthier take on Japanese curry that tastes just as robust and hearty. It does not sit heavy in the stomach.

If you’re an adventurous eater, try the Japanese sticky yam. The crunchy and slimy texture is a love it or hate it kind of thing.

We visited Cocoron on a Monday at the start of dinner service. The wait staff (guy in a red shirt) was extremely hostile towards us when entering, and yelled at us to stand outside in 90 degree heat, despite plenty of open seats. We’ve visited Cocoron in the past, and while the food is good, it is not worth $18 for soba noodles. This will be our last visit, there are much better options nearby

Overall very average. Cash only but not cash only prices. Curry rice not particularly flavorful. Curry soba was watery. Just not that great for the price and you can find better establishments. Personally I think Abiko curry is a good alternative.

Walked by just after arriving in NYC. Hungry. Door was open, all shop but no other customers mid aft, looked perfect. Ordered cold spicy black sesame noodles. Sooooo good on a hot day. Ran off to my appointment. Discovered just now by writing this review that they weren't even open! どうもありがとう! I'll be back and will be spreading the word about your delicious food and kindness.

Utterly furious and confused. I came in hoping for a nice meal, but didn’t even get to order. We waited for at least 30 minutes, but the staff completely ignored us after making eye contact several times. We watched 2 parties come in after our arrival and they were able to order their food promptly without issue. Im not sure why we didnt get the same service. There is only one reason I can think of. POC beware.

Our visit was on 7/24/23 at approx 8: 15pm EST if the owner wants to take meaningful action against the staff involved.

Excellent noodle house with my faves being the soba and udon dishes. Especially in the summer, I’ll enjoy the chilled noodles.

Mera Mera Dip Soba - might be the best soba I’ve ever had. Insanely good
Heard the chicken meatballs are amazing but didn’t have the chance to try them

An experience out of 10. We enjoyed the food, the service and the space. One of the best experiences during our stay in NY.
