Cohen's Fashion Optical reviews
11I've been here twice. The eye doctors are pretty good, my prescription always comes out close to perfect for my eyes. It's super random with the employees though, sometimes good/ sometimes bad, and ALOT of upselling. Had to come here because I lost my glasses twice, and each time, this was the closest place. I do feel like I've overpaid every time for some basic glasses, but at least the turnaround time was fairly quick.
Do not go here - the staff lied about when glasses would arrive despite speaking with them in detail about it and refused to help me via phone.
My first experience (eye exam + new frames) was great. Nice people, on-time, lovely customer service. However, 4 months later, all I needed was Physician sign off to renew driver's license. I not only got informed that I have to wait a week for the doctor to be in the office, but then find out a week later that I have to pay for ANOTHER exam AND wait in line to see the doctor. To top it off, non gracious customer service over the phone. No thanks - changed providers to Lens Crafters next door.
First they lied about the warranty on my glasses, I was told that I'd be able to replace my glasses at the end of the year even if there was nothing wrong with them. No, this wasn't a misunderstanding, I confirmed it several times before buying, didn't think they would just lie to me. I let it go because life's too short to make a fuss about things like that and they seemed nice.
But then recently, they tried to force me to buy their overpriced contact lenses in their store at $350 a box, telling me they would deny permission for me to buy anywhere else. I was about to visit some family and was hoping to just buy a cheap box so I could play sports with my nephews and not worry about my glasses, they said they would sell me a box "as a courtesy" without renewing my prescription but only their exorbitantly priced $350 ones. Right.they are willing to do me a favor, just as long as I am paying them an over 300% mark up on the average price of contact lenses. Ridiculous.
They seem like nice people but they will lie to your face and try to bend you over a rain barrel for change, avoid at all costs, way too many places to get prescriptions to deal with this garbage
The manager was clearly upset i just wanted a prescription and not to be scammed by overpriced glasses and refused to email me a copy of my prescription for no reason whatsoever
I spent $4688.80 on 4 pairs of glasses in november 2019 (i know for sure now because i'm staring at the credit card statement). I walked in today (19 months later) to make a minor fitting adjustment on one of those pairs.the clerks there didn't believe i bought them there and was going to charge me $10 (other places do it free whether you're a customer there or not). I gave them my name and they made a cursory review of their receipts and said there's no record of me there (if i needed the prescription details for an emergency i guess i'd be out of luck). I went down the block to lenscrafters and they adjusted them for free.needless to say i will never go there again, and you shouldn't either.
Re other reviews - up-selling is part of sales. They're customer service but their main job is to sell you a product. And up-selling is part of that. It went over my budget but I don't care because I did want prescription sunglasses and getting transition lenses added onto the one pair I bought will take care of that. Also fog-resistance is pretty much a given now with Covid, the masks, and the temperature changes in NYC. I've been going to this particular store for about 20/21 years now since I was in college and lived in the dorms nearby. The exam was thorough as well. They are friendly and actually pay attention to you. Many other stores have inexperienced, young "urban" type employees who are rude and aren't engaging. It's up to you in the end as a customer to pick the glasses you want and nothing is set in stone. You don't have to get the add-ons.
I've been going to this location for 20+ years and the team/management has been up and down but the folks there now are GREAT. Really nice customer service - several of them went beyond the call of duty for me - highly recommend.
I love coming here. Great experience. The staff was awesome, very pleasant, and friendly. I'll always come back!
Great customer service. Went in for an eye exam - time efficient, courteous and accurate. Confirmed results of a previous eye exam. Also tested for reading glasses confirming my current script. Got two pair of RayBan sunglasses with special lenses. Great price and service.
I had walked in looking to purchase a pair of high end sunglasses. I was impressed by the inventory and came across a brand that was new and really liked the Dita options. One really nice and super helpful person named Ellen was there to make my experience that much better. I have to say between the staff being very friendly and helpful, the entire experience was so positive that I will look to go back in another week or so to buy a set of prescription glasses. This Cohens location at East 23rd & Park Ave. South will be my trusted optical store moving forward.
