Commons Dining Hall reviews
6Never trust the fish. NEVER, eating here definitely causes several health problems and you need to sign an NDA and agree to their health liability policy every time you have a meal.
The staff in the dining hall are very nice and helpful people. Especially the people at the bakery, when they were closing up I went over to get a cupcake and the man offered to give me even more to take home with me. One staff member at the grill went out of his way to make me a custom hotdog when I asked if they ever make them. The food here in general is okay, sometimes is pretty good but it is never bad or disgusting. The fruit isn't usually ripe, but you can take fruit out of the cafeteria with you so it not being ripe doesn't really matter. I love to go with my friends and the renovations to the dining hall really makes the place look nice and creates a great vibe for the place overall.
The place currently is properly following covid protocols put in place by the university. The only noticable change is that the deli center is now make it yourself instead of someone putting together a sandwich for you.
It's pretty hit or miss, to be honest. The meal plan is pretty expensive at RPI, and ultimately, the food doesn't seem worth that amount. It would be nice for there to be more flex dollars made available. The staff there is good. Sometimes lines can be a pain to deal with. I personally believe that things could be made better in Commons if they installed some sort of grocery section with easy-to-make on-the-go foods (like sandwiches and stuff).
Wednesday at Lunch, great. Every other time, not good. Have gotten food poisoning from Fish and Chips. Not something I expected.
Commons, after it's redesign, is a lovely modern version of the standard college eating area. Has multiple types of food to choose from, all made by Sodexo. The food in question is for the most part decent, but the best choice by far, is whatever the cook in front of you meal is that day. The wait is longer, but the quality and taste of the food there, is always superb.
