Known as "Breuer's" to honor Rabbi Dr. Joseph Breuer, zt"l, who served as the Rabbi for over 40 years and was the grandson of Rabbi Sampson Raphael Hirsch, zt"l, from Frankfurt am Main, in prewar Germany. Founded in Washington Heights in 1939 and based on the synagogue on Friedberger Anlager, which was destroyed during Kristallnacht in 1938.
