I have been a member of this Crunch gym for more than two decades, joining when my nearly 21-year-old son was 6 months old. I have seen a lot of managers come and go, but I want to give a 10-STAR REVIEW to Ali Schulman, the current general manager at the 83rd St.branch. She is a remarkably smart, effective, kind, and member-centric manager who makes coming to the gym, which I love doing, an even better experience! She has navigated this gym through plenty - renovations, reconstruction, COVID! - and always focuses on making sure that Crunch members are well taken care of, that the gym is excellently maintained and pristine, the staff helpful and respectful, and that the Crunch gym always maintains its welcoming, no-judgement, become-the-best-you-can-be culture. Whenever I had any problem, Ali would make sure that it was taken care of right away. She is a wonderful asset to this gym and to the Crunch corporation. I can't say enough great things about Ali Schulman and the gym that she runs!

I really appreciated their reasonable cancellation policy, and their handling of memberships during the pandemic. So many gyms make cancelling or pausing memberships nearly impossible. Also, their saunas are nice and hot.

I have been a member of Crunch for 21 years. These days, the gym is run better than it ever has been since I joined. They handled the pandemic reopening with the utmost attention to health and safety protocols, while maintaining the warmth and “no judgments” environment that is Crunch’s hallmark. The staff is always friendly and helpful, led by Ali, the General Manager, whose good humor and kindness are contagious. I consider myself lucky to have the 83rd Street Crunch in my neighborhood.

I’ve been a member (off and on) since this gym opened. I love that it’s super clean and the staff is nice and very professional especially John Radzik, who helped me renew my membership. He is super helpful, a good listener and he helped me choose the best option that worked for me! I would recommend him for any new guests that are interested in joining.

The cardio equipment is almost all flawed. The treadmills are on uneven flooring, the crosstrainers inclines won’t adjust. Everything is broken in one way or another, and now with every other machine out of service for covid (not their fault, of course!) it’s even harder to pick a machine whose problems don’t drive me crazy.

The epitome of professionalism and customer service, John in memberships went above and beyond to help me give my husband the gift of good health. I highly recommend speaking to John. He was warm, knowledgeable and efficiently customized a membership package that personally met my husband's needs. Thank you, John!

Setup is a little awkward but this location is pretty clean, convenient, and has great equipment

Equipment is always broken, at busy times no machines available because they have just remodeled and increased personal training areas at the expense of gym space for all (and charged members for the remodel through increased dues). Also, in order to make more space for personal training, they have moved equipment to a basement, windowless room with poor ventilation and music so loud that you can’t listed to your own music or watch videos on the video screens on the machines.

I have been going to this location for 2 years. I never wrote a review in that time because I was such a huge fan of the childcare, that the only way I would rave about it was to close friends in hopes that the childcare wouldn't fill up even faster than it already did (it filled up DAILY, and required a 5am call to schedule a slot since it was so popular). My kids went to see Angie 5 days a week, and she became family to us. I grew to LOVE the classes, and the mental release. If I would have written a review, it would have been 5 stars BECAUSE of Angie, and childcare. I switched to Crunch because of the childcare, and although the facilities weren't ideal, it was so much better than I'd experienced at other NYC gyms, and for the price, it was totally worth it. I was thrilled. We're not wealthy, and the mental break for me to workout gave me, as a mom of 3, SANITY. I loved it. Crunch had a competitive advantage that no other gyms on the UWS could compete with.

At the end of October, with 2 days notice, myself and the other parents were told that childcare was closing for good. We were infuriated, and very vocal about our frustrations. Although we resisted and vocalized our concerns as much as we could, in every way we could think, the renovations moved forward, and Angie's little childcare space was town down. Literally.

I've gone to the gym periodically (while I have a few months comped due to the inconvenience), and every time I walk by that space, I get sick to my stomach. The changes are terrible. They have generated the BIGGEST waste of space, and a complete downgrade from the "better amenities" that now are in it's place- the little, busy, happy childcare corner, is now a 9 x 7 rectangle of useless BLACK ASTROTURF.

Crunch had something special- something that made me as a customer feel like I was getting a benefit. That benefit is gone, and although I assume corporate made the decision based on spreadsheets and numbers and growth, that decision hurt many, many people. If they would have asked, all of us would have GLADLY paid more to keep childcare, but we never had that opportunity.

Although unlikely, I hope they reconsider and bring back childcare. Until then, I'm giving Crunch (and especially Crunch corporate) and meager 1 star.

You'll find a warm welcome greeting from the staffs. At the moment, they're remodeling their appearance so getting a personal tour would be bad timing if you want to see a better first impression out of it. Everything seemed neat and clean from floor to floor but not very much spacing on every section (bathroom, sauna, showers, locker rooms) The reason why it has two stars is because of the odor on the second floor workout station, i can't workout while it smells like pig sweat. I've been associated with other gym company's and regardless how many people are in a room, others would know how to resolve that.

Do not go here! They rip you off! The facility isn’t good for the prices and the customer service is horrible! Waited five days calling everyday trying to get a response from the operations manager who never got back to me about memberships! Also no other staff could answer a single question all they said was I can’t help you I’ll have someone call you tomorrow with absolutely no follow through or urgency.

This location is always clean and offers lots of fun classes! The staff is very friendly and helpful. They have a good amount of cardio machines so you rarely have to wait for the one you want.

Additionally the cancellation process is a breeze! I had to cancel because I was relocating. Many other gyms I’ve used before make you come in to the location you signed up at and have you pay a fee or the following month- not here. Very painless during a stressful move!

Excellent gym. Always being cleaned and there are always at least two maintenance people working most times. There are several hand sanitizer stations placed strategically around the gym and sanitizing wipes near cardio machines. Most of the treadmills and cardio machines have been replaced recently. Except for the most crowded times there is never any waiting for equipment. Management, staff and trainers are all excellent and courteous. I have never seen any trainer bump a patron from the equipment. One only has to ask and they will adjust the temperature. Frankly, I can't understand the negative reviews. This is a great place and has only improved during the last year. Have been a member for 10 plus years.

Wish I could give Zero stars. Do NOT work out here. This corporation does not have any accountability to its members. They will not get on the phone, return a call, or do anything to solve any issue. The employees say they have been told to ignore complaints with hopes a customer will just quit and they can keep their money. That is how this business operates.

My partner paid for personal training sessions, got injured doing personal training. Provided doctors note to get reimbursed for remaining sessions she did not use. Was happy to continue membership but requested refund for personal training session she did not use -2K. Now Crunch are refusing to give back the 2k. Robbers, thief’s and liars.

This gym refuses to maintain its weightlifting section's temperature within a reasonable range (which is generally accepted to be 65-68° F). It is far too hot here.

Decent location. I like that they have a steam room and a sauna. Most locations have one or the other. Also this location probably has the softest, fluffiest towels of all the Crunch locations I've been so far.

I am not a member at this gym but it is the gym i choose to train at when im in manhattan and i have used it on and off for the last three years. I have always enjoyed training here and have not had any bad excperience's.sure its a fairly basic gym but in my opinion basic is good. It caters for all, from the powerlifter to the "must i have too's". People are always friendly and i have found love talking to a Brit and are always willing for a spot here or there.

Solid gym. Not Crunch's fanciest build out in Manhattan but has everything you need. Classes are good and have good instructors.

Rude customer service. The manager is rude Hereford the employees feel empowered to do the same.
