This was my first time at D’Antan. I’d been wanting to go for a while and I was really expecting a lot more. The atmosphere is 5/5 as there are wine bottles displayed throughout, cute Polaroids on the walls, romantic lighting, fresh flowers and candles on the tables and the iron chandelier hanging in the middle of the room is just wow absolutely stunning. The disappointment, however, began with the service. While the server was extremely sweet and seemed well-intentioned, I had to ask for a food menu after being seated and waiting a while (there was only one other couple in the restaurant), I ordered a bottle of sparkling water and he brought it and lemon slices (a nice touch) but not the glasses for us to drink the sparkling water out of which I also had to point out after waiting a while. I also asked for a napkin because it wasn’t obvious that there was one in the utensil envelope and when he told me it was there, I pulled out what would be comparable to a thin brown napkin you get at your local corner deli with your coffee. When my friend asked for another napkin, he brought her a thicker and larger blue and white one which seemed more apt for dining and I asked if he could bring me one too. It’s just odd to be campaigning so much for a proper dining napkin? Now, on to the food. First off, these menu prices are really high which gave me the false impression of quality and taste. The artichoke appetizer ($16) we ordered was served cold when it was supposed to be a hot dish (?) - we ate it a bit confused, it was very mediocre tasting, and when the server asked how the dish was, I said it was just ok and said it was cold and the server comp’d it when he clarified it was supposed to be hot. He went and had a word with the kitchen about it. A hot mediocre artichoke dish in red sauce would’ve been ok? But a cold one? Nah. For mains, my friend ordered the tagliatelle and I ordered the cod. For a whopping $36, I expected way more out of the cod but it was bland layered with more bland. I’m sure the only seasoning used was salt and most of it on the fish. The fish *was* cooked really well, but between that and the supposed “saffron” potato purée, there was no flavor. The carrots were just whole-roasted plain ol’ carrots. I think pasta is the only way to go when ordering from here; my friend’s tagliatelle was pretty tasty and perfect for a cold night. She had to ask for parmesan and black pepper because it wasn’t offered to her when she got the pasta. I thought that was a pretty standard thing to offer but perhaps now I’m just being nit picky. We finished our mains and the server asked if we wanted to look at the dessert menu and we said yes and then we saw that the tiramisu costs $21 and we just had to laugh about it and then get out of there as soon as possible. My conclusion is for these insane prices, they really need to improve their flavoring on the non-pasta dishes, make sure the dishes are actually hot when they’re supposed to be and the service needs to be more…service-y. I probably won’t be coming back here any time soon unfortunately.

Cozy place, the best about this little spot is the service. I loved my server. The food is really good, but one of the spaghettis was cooked VERY al dente. I prefer al dente to over, but shouldnt be like this.

The flavors were truly exceptional, but what sets Dantan apart is the ambiance. Ideal for a second or third date, surpassing the expectations of a typical dining experience.

Dantan isn't just a restaurant; it's an immersive journey into a world where every detail, from the menu to the decor, contributes to a memorable and romantic escapade. I wholeheartedly recommend it to those in search of an extraordinary wine and food experience. Highly.recommended!

Overall rating: 4.9

I’m absolutely obsessed with this spot. Its atmosphere is so intimate, fairytale-like & hidden. I was a bit surprised but there isn’t a lot of options on the menu.

I went on a date & we ended up splitting the truffle pasta which I don’t think is on the menu anymore. It was really good, but tbh I’d probably go again just for the atmosphere. There were plants everywhere and it was definitely a 2nd / 3rd date spot vs new date.

I highly recommend if you’re looking for something different & romantic.

Nice spot in prospect heights for dinner. It was my first time there and the host displayed wine options and even gave me samples to taste. The portions for food is good for one person.

Overall, the restaurant has potential. Just needs to tweak around the edges. The wine selection needs to be improved. Music needs to be reevaluated. The decor is A+ and the food was good. Salad was overdressed.

The food and wine was excellent. We loved that the waiter just picked the wine for us. The only thing we didn’t love was the value. The portions were fair but it was very expensive for the amount of food we got. Pasta is cooked Al dente.

Had the best time tonight with Tatiana! Thought it was so funny that we had the same name and it was great to finally meet someone at an Italian restaurant that is actually knowledgeable about wines and able to give recommendations that are on point! Thank you for making my date and I feel welcomed and for the laughs.

Update: Came back after a few months and the service with T is just as amazing but the lamb chops are even better than before!

So so good. The pasta is out of this world, in a cozy, charming dining room with a lovely ambiance.

Super disappointing. My salad had soft old tomatoes and slimy lettuce and just globs of cold pesto. For $22. The prices are just insane for what you get. World’s smallest water glasses. Server was nice.

Food was delicious. Service was slow but they were busy and understaffed. Excellent wine choices and advice. The Friday night we were there they had a jazz combo playing. They were excellent musicians but the music in such a small space was very loud and made conversation difficult. I really think the space is just too small to try and cram a 4 piece jazz combo in. We couldn't have been closer to the band unless we were in it. So 5 stars for the food and wine but 4 for service and "atmosphere. "

Food was good - but wine by the glass was way overpriced. $24/glass and no price per glass listed

We ate very well there. The service was very professional, and the room is very pleasant. The only negative points are the price which is really very high and the lobster which is not shelled. Other than that, it was really good.

Don't know how I hadn't been here before. Such a gem of a place, duck Ragu was amazing. Tatiana was incredibly knowledgeable and super attentive. They took us on a tour throughout Italy and we learned so much about natural wine! Amazing experience

Nice enough food, atmosphere, and service. Would go back, at least once in a while, but not in a very cold night. Everyone dining in the place had their winter coats on. We just wanted to finish quickly and go back to the car to warm up. The place also shuts down very early. There were plenty of empty tables, but the waiter needed to confirm with the kitchen whether we could be seated at 9: 40 p.m. On a Friday evening. We were the last ones out at 10: 20 p.m, and then the place closed for the evening. Prices are a little higher than at other Italian restaurants in the area, like Camillo.

Mid. Atmosphere and waitstaff were great, food was mediocre at best. Steak was under seasoned and the lobster pasta dish was just strange. The pasta was just bad.
