This rental spot has always been reliable and affordable. The best part is meeting Mary behind the front counter. She will help you avoid fees, advise upgrading your car based on weather and where your traveling, she’s also a dog lover (instant trust). Mary was working the counter herself with a long line to handle. She was kind and patient with each customer. I’ll always return for a local rental because of her. Thanks Mary!

Mary the old heavy white lady is a scam. She tried to overcharge my aunt over $1000 for insurance and an upgrade, even though they didnt have the car we ALREADY PAID FOR and when my aunt told her she didnt need the insurance. My aunt has medical issues and gets flustered at times, so I was on the phone with her and Mary’s tone was disgusting. She was speaking to my aunt in a demeaning tone and trying to convince her that she had to pay to an extra $275 a day for a suv because they didnt have the camry she already paid for. That made no sense so i made my aunt leave and went there with her when i got off work.

When we got there the lady there that evening, was awesome, I was so angry and focused on Mary’s name i forgot to ask hers. I explained everything to her, and she was apologetic and understanding and we were on our way in 10 minutes.

Because of Mary, we will not be returning to dollar and will be letting all of friends and family know not to go here at all

Service was very good. The only let down is that it wasn't a 24 hour operation. Which cause me to cut it very close in catching my flight

Won't let you rent if you have an out of state license. Well they will but they charge an extra 250. My rental was only for a day.

Less than enthusiastic people working the counter. The gal that took care of me seemed too paranoid of the whole covid situation. She was disinfecting everything.

TL;DR: Unexpected wait times, unexpected payment requirements

Arrived at the offices at 10: 30AM on a Sunday, with a reservation but that didn't help. Site was significantly understaffed, only 2 kiosks open, so we waited 2 hours until I was served. The manager there mentioned that the Sundays in prior weeks were not busy at all. I'd expect them to staff the place according to the amount of reservations (average serving time was around 8 minutes [had the time to keep check:) ]), so in theory they could have prepared in advance.

There were multiple people with a reservation who waited the line and ended up not getting a car which is a serious bummer. We were also almost denied after 3 credit cards were declined (worked fine everywhere else that day, I suspect it was related to the Security Deposit that was required), luckily worked on the 4th try.
Naturally it's fine that Dollar require specific funds but it's very poorly communicated and hard to predict. When calling before coming in to pick up the car I was told that any major credit card would due (Visa, MasterCard, etc.) and that was not the case

The workers that served us were nice and helpful. The car was fine, return went smooth as well.
1/5 because the waiting times ended up costing us over 2 hours for a 1-day rental.

If you want to pay over $400 for a car and then show up to be told they are out of cars then this is your place to go. Useless staff, super slow, and a waste of time.

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!
Horrible move from Hertz for buying this attocious company (and employees).
I waited in line for 30 min until I was called up to the desk. My daughter who just recently turned into a toddler is sick, I gave the employees the benefit of the doubt. It went from bad to worse when an elderly employee tried to downgrade us. She even TRIED to convince us a sedan was the same price as renting a SUV. I asked to speak with a manager and she refused to get the proper personnel to help. Unfortunately for this uneducated employee, she does not realize this is a luxury and not a necessity. No one should have to experience this sort of customer service. I was told that MY money wouldn't be refunded, Sure.

People are irresponsible and lie and accuse people of skipping and say that a bank card isn’t valid. The point is these people don’t take action about others. Horrible Customer Service.

I experienced typical Dollar service - quick check in and out. Car was what I expected. Was a little worn but ran well (corolla). Return was quick, and shuttle bus waited for me. Seems like all car rental shuttles take you to a stop where you transfer to a bus that takes you to the airport. I read a number of poor reviews about this place and felt the problems were probably not the norm. I won’t hesitate to use them again.

We had a very good experience picking up our car, even the young lady upgraded us.

But on the return, horrible. There was no one outside to check us in. So I went inside where they call someone. Finally somebody showed us. We got on the shuttle to the airport. The driver was called leaving to pick up a manger to take to Hertz.

Told them we were flying JetBlue. They dropped us off at a shuttle bus station stating they couldn't go into the airport. So we got on the shuttle bus which circled the airport to only return to the original location.

Where they dropped us off was across the street from our terminal. Because of the multiple delays, we missed our flights because of the incompetents of the Dollar staff.

Get to this car rental for a third party where they promised low prices, Priceline. I made a reservation for 2 days, it seemed legal and cheap. When I arrive, the person who attends me very cordially gives me another balance but my budget still seemed good. When the breakdown of what I had to pay arrives I realize that the amount that Priceline gave me did not cover the 2 days it was only one day and they made me believe that that was the complete estimate. They are not honest traders. Cheating to attract customers is not the best way to do business. I will not rent cars with this company again.

TERRIBLE! I got double charged and got a terrible car. The lady at the counter said do not prepay they will charge you on top of what you pay at the counter.the car was disgusting, the reclining seat didnt even work. DO NOT WORK WITH THEM!

Got to the location with 4 suitcase to find out they no longer accept debit cards as of april 1st.i booked this reservation onlj e a month ago and no warning about this new pilicy was ever told to me.i was told to try other rental car aces in the area.

Check in was terrible, 10 customers and 3 clerks of which only one was trying to help 1 hour and 10 min for 10 customers is too much of a time. Shuttle driver doesn't talk or direct customers. Too expensive 2 days close to $450 for a mid size car. Returning the car was a easier. Thrifty/Dollar

Avoid at all cost. The line was ridiculously long and had to wait forever to speak with a representative. They do not disclosing when booking that the card used to book the reservation needs to be under the same name as the person driving. I made a reservation under my credit card for my boyfriend to drive the car as I don’t have my drivers license. They refused to rent us the car unless it was put under a credit card in his name, they refused to take a debit card. The representatives and supervisors were all unapologetically unhelpful and extremely rude. We had planned a camping trip with the kids and due to their bad business practices they ruined the trip and they had no remorse about it. To top it off they refuse to give us a refund. DO NOT RENT from them!

Please don't book your car rental through travelocity. Representatives hardly speak any English. Dollar Rental Car services in Astoria Queens was very disappointing. The representative and manager were very rude and did not even try to accommodate me at all. Everything I suggested or asked was NO. I missed my cousin wedding because of $32

Perfect rental with very affordable rates compared to rentals in Manhattan! I saw lot of negative comments about this place and I went there with some apprehension and finally everything went well. I took the time to discuss with Mary who explained me both EZ pass rules and insurance coverage and it was really nice. Take a time to talk/ meet people and I am pretty sure your rental will be smoother than the ones indicated in the reviews.
