Without this book, I feel like I would have been doomed to live life as just another 50+ year old woman with grey hair, miserable from hot flashes, night sweats, yeast infections, mood changes, low sex drive, creaky joints and all the rest.

This book (and estrogen!) literally gave me my life back. Thank you Dr. Allmen from the bottom of my heart.

The Bible for Menopause! Tara’s sense of humor and amazingly relevant quips, make this as entertaining as it is educational.
Truly should be “ required reading” for all women, and those who love us.
Thank you Dr. Allmen

She has been my doctor since 2016.
Beyond reasonable doubt, she is a Great professional, knowledgeable, fast in answering e-mails. Plus she is charming, always with big smile and funny jokes which makes me feel comfortable. Her place is incredible clean and it has such good energy.

I am not a patient of Dr. Tara Allmen's (I live far from her office - another state). But I feel like I'm a patient through her words and guidance. Here's my story.

I first purchased Dr. Allmen's Menopause Confidential on Audible (when it first came out). I suspected I may be perimenopausal (although I found the whole thing confusing). And decided I should probably start learning about what to expect. Dr. Allmen's book was perfect - serious but funny at the same time.and a treat to hear Dr. Allment (as narrator) talking to me. Again, this was early on.and alot of it still did not pertain to me at that time.

Fast forward 5 years. I was diagnosed with a condition that required a total hysterectomy - age 53 (side note to women - please listen to your bodies when something doesn't seem right - fortunately, I acted on this quickly and avoided what may have been something more serious and complicated if I had waited to see my doctor). Because everything happened so quickly, I really didn't take the time to understand what "medically" induced menopause actually meant (I am embarrased to say this.but will share. I naively thought that since I was having a total hysterectomy, I would actually skip the whole menopause phase and be a happy, go lucky, no more mentrual cycle woman!) I was so wrong.

I started feeling "yucky" - physically, mentally. I didn't feel like my old self at all. It was like I was another person. Very difficult time. I decided to buy the hard copy version of Dr. Allen's Menopause Confidential.so I could study it, make notes, etc. Now I could better relate. What a big help that was! I felt validated, "heard", comforted, and most importantly.understood that I was going through some monumental change.not that I was going crazy.

Immediately following my surgery, I had asked my doctor about starting HRT, but she recommended to wait because of the "concerns" surrounding HRT (which I have learned is actually not true at all) and especially recommended for hysterectomy
patients given the immediate shift to menopause. Well, 10 months following my surgery. I visited my doctor.crying and broken.telling her that I wanted to start HRT. I can't believe how much it helped immediately! I felt somewhat whole again. This was in 2021. However, I have found that after 3-6 months, I have had to increase my dosage (which I now understand is normal).

Here's where Dr. Allmen comes in AGAIN. A few weeks ago, I was doing more research regarding menopause specialists, and Dr. Allmen's profile came up.along with an email address. What the heck I thought. I'll write Dr. Allmen an email explaining my situation and ask for recommendations. I honestly didn't expect to hear anything back. (afterall, this is an incredibly busy doctor, author, advocate, etc.). I thought at the most, I might receive an email acknowledging my note, etc. Imagine my incredible surprise.when 2 hours later that same day, I received a call from Dr. Allmen! I was in shock.disbelief. In her usual fun and supportive way.she said "well.you did give me your cell phone number! " That time talking with Dr. Allmen not only lifted my spirits, but she provided great recommendations and a wonderful dose of positivity and hope!

This is a testament to Dr. Allmen's dedication and advocacy around women's health - especially during the change brought on by menopause. It is refreshing to see that there is finally more attention paid to menopause and women's health during this transition in life. BUT. I have to stress here.that Dr. Allmen had covered these topics in her book years ago! She was already leading the charge.

Please, for anyone needing a dose of power.comfort.confidence.hope.and self love - Dr. Allmen's Menopause Confidential is a must read. Thank you Dr. Allmen. You have no idea how much you have helped me through your words.

I hope my story helps other women in a similar condition. We owe it to OURSELVES to feel healthy and whole.

Have a healthy day!

Dr Allmen’s book Menopause Confidential is a fantastic book for quick learning on the differences between perimenopause and menopause and what to do/how to cope in each transitional stage. I have read several books on this subject matter, however her book has been by far the best.

My whole adult life I have been looking for the slightest bit of understanding and compassion. The state of women's health is truly deplorable. Dr. Allmen has given me hope for myself and for the concept that perhaps there are still some amazing doctors out there.

I am writing this review for Dr. Tara Allmen who I believe to be a menopause hero.
I began my relationship with Dr Allmen in my early 50’s when I was trying to get ahead of any negative symptoms that could possibly interfere with my daily living. I was trying to be proactive about my healthcare and not surprising, my then gynecologist had very limited knowledge of menopause treatment options and just offered me an antidepressant (oy vey!).
Dr Allmen was the complete opposite- a top of the line expert in treating mid-life women, she helped me with my transition into menopause (which was symptom filled and difficult for me) and I rely upon her to this day.
Dr. Allmen is funny, whip smart, no nonsense – a real straight shooter who above all realizes there isn’t a one size fits all solution and that each woman is unique. And, she is a caring doctor who goes the extra mile for he patients - She even responded to one of my texts when she was on a ski vacation with her family! Who does that anymore? I feel very lucky and that I am a patient in her practice.

I found Dr. Allmen's book, Menopause Confidential, at the Montclair Public Library and finished reading it in about 5 days. Dr. Allmen does an incredible job at simplifying very complex topics for everyday readers that have A LOT of questions on menopause, like myself! Definitely recommend her book and her philosophy on helping women going through midlife!

Dr Allman is by far one of the best, if not the best Dr. I have ever been to. She becomes your partner in your menopause journey. She listens to you, addresses your concerns, talks you off the ledge, and always takes time for you as a person. Her book Menopause Confidential is a must read. It is honest and funny, (just like her)  answers every question related to menopause.  Everyone's experience with perimenopause and menopause is different but partnering with Dr. Allmen has saved my quality of life. Thank you Dr. Allman, you and Nancy, have been a Godsend!

Dr. Allmen has been a god send for me! I had been struggling with severe menopause symptoms, hot flashes, and hadn't slept through the night in two years. After reading her book, I gave a call. She met with me in person, we spoke one-on-one for almost two hours, and she prescribed me the hormone therapy that I needed. Within 3 weeks of that meeting, I began sleeping through the night and my hot flashes have become almost non-existent. I'm starting to finally feel like myself again.

I found Dr. Allmen to be uber-knowledgeable and up to date on her field, compassionate, straightforward and pretty damn funny. One of the best decisions I've made in a while.

I can’t say enough about Dr Tara Allmen and her practice. If ever there was a “boutique gynecologist “ this is it. Personalized, private and professional. Dr Allmen offers the most up to date advice. And sidesteps unnecessary “testing. ” All this with a warm smile and a lovely sense of humor!

From the moment I walked through the door the beautiful scent of something fresh and inviting captured attention. And it only got better from there. Her receptionist Nancy is warm and welcoming and she immediately escorts you to the doctors office where you’re greeted with a joyous “hello, how are you today sister? ” No waiting!

Dr Allmen Is thorough she will go through your entire family medical history with you to be sure she understands you completely before she starts to care for you and even when you’ve been her patient for awhile that does not change. Her exams are gentle her specialty is postmenopausal women she studies us and the issues we are going through and she understands us completely. This may sound funny but I never knew so much about my vagina until I met Dr. Allmen and read her book. I’ve never in my life looked forward to my annual GYN exam until I met Dr. Allmen.

She hears you ladies - she knows how to help you. Make an appointment - you will not be disappointed!

I shared Dr. Allmen's book - Menopause Confidential: a Doctor Reveals the Secrets to Thriving Through Midlife - to a number of personal friends who were really struggling with menopause. I was so glad to hear from each of them how much their reading the book and following her advise made a positive and significant difference to their well-being!

Dr. Allmen is a GEM. She is personable, attentive, professional, and a delight to talk to. I actually look forward to my visits (unlike visits to any other doctor). She goes above and beyond, and is always available. Recently she went to bat for me with my insurance company which was denying an RX she prescribed, insisting I use the generic which had previously caused me problems. She did not take no for an answer and spent a lot of time convincing the insurance company to approve the RX. Due to her efforts, I now have my RX. This one example is indicative of the kind of care and attention she brings to every interaction. I feel so fortunate to have found Dr. Allmen and to be in her care. She's the BEST!
