With only 2 tables (out of 10) occupied, we were told to leave as we wanted to have only coffee

Loved the ambiance and dining experience. Staff was friendly and attentive. Food was uniquely palatable a day thoroughly enjoyed.

Rangee, Elena, Marina, and every single staff member in the restaurant are the absolute best. The food is always fantastic, and always served by the warmest and highest quality service in a beautiful space.

We ordered the malted pancakes, house cured salmon, asparagus frittata, and avocado toast, ranked in order of favorites. Will definitely order the malted pancakes when we come back for its perfect fluffiness and delicious pairing with the orange mascarpone on top. The citrus cured salmon was also unique, and particularly liked it with a dash of salt added to bring out all the flavors. The blueberry compote was also a standout for its flavor and not overly sweetness, and that says a lot from someone who does not normally like compote. Recommend their delicious coffee, and if you’re looking to try something different, get the espresso tonic for an interesting mix of flavors.

If i could give zero stars i would.i was completely disrespected by one employee who was serving me.i’ve never been disrespected like this ever in my life.i ordered a iced chai and a yogurt (which came out to be $25 including the 20% tip i gave). My sever made my tea and it tasted like water so i asked politely if he could remake it and he took offense and asked me if i’ve ever tasted a chai tea in my life.i replied with yes i get them all the time so he remade it for me (it tasted even more watered down then the first one.) 15 minutes later i was still waiting on my yogurt (keep in mind it was only me and one other customer in the store), so i asked when it would be ready and he told me that everything is made from scratch so it would be another 5 minutes (which also didn’t make sense because it was just a yogurt). I waited another 10 minutes and he was standing around on his phone so i asked if someone had started making it because i had a flight to catch and i had been waiting there for 30 minutes now.he then told me to get out of the store and that i wouldn’t be getting my food.i was in absolute shock and i said ok thank you and walked out.i wasted $25 that i did not get back on a tea which was practically water and food that i never received.do not come here!

Watched in YouTube that this is one of the best coffee shops in Brooklyn. But unfortunately I could not verify this as the barista was busy talking to someone instead of taking the order. I had to look for another coffee shop so as not to waste time.

I'll preface this by saying I really want to love this place. Roasting and serving single-origin coffees is unique in Carroll Gardens and is a welcome addition to the coffee landscape. I get really excited to try new coffees, so it's wonderful that E1 cycles through their offerings on bar rather than sticking to an "old faithful" roast.

However, my experiences in visiting have been really lacking. Today, for example, I was served a lukewarm espresso that had been sitting on the bar for a while (at least 2 min, I had seen it when I walked in, perched under the steam wand), which I was served immediately after ordering. This was disappointing especially considering the upscale prices, which I'm usually happy to pay in exchange for high quality. I considered asking the Barista to remake the drink after I realized that it was lukewarm, but I decided to save myself the trouble, at risk of being ridiculed or judged by the Barista. Leading to my next point:

E1 has an attitude problem. The café atmosphere cultivated by the staff is unwelcoming, alienating and suffocating, with many baristas exhibiting a sort of "holier than thou" attitude about coffee. As a customer, I've felt like I'm inconveniencing the barista by ordering a drink. In past visits I've tried striking up conversations about the coffee being served or recommendations for home use, most of which have been ignored, so I've stopped bothering entirely.

Again - this place has so much potential. Unfortunately, attitude problems are more endemic than coffee issues. The world of specialty coffee is gate-kept as it is!

We stopped to get coffee before a bank appointment and had to wait for some ten minutes. Paid $10 for two small cups of coffee. Because the shop is fully occupied with people we wanted to sit outside, because literally all tables outside were empty. 5 minutes after sitting a staff member came and kindly told us we can't sit outside unless we're dining in. I kindly asked him if the tables belong to a different business or if it's still the same business. He told us it's the same business but they can't let us sit there just having coffee. I don't know when or how this became to be an OK attitude for coffee shops but I definitely have a problem with this sort of exploitation and can't get over it. Not going again.

BLT was a solid mediocre. They forgot the bacon and had to send back out. Fries were ok. I'll stick to tea and pastries in the future!

There’s something inhospitable about protecting tables, even when there not I demand. And here’s the problem: the cafe has too few outdoor tables while the restaurant seems to have excess. Being told to move only *after* my coffee was gone, only *after* I’d been allowed to get comfortable, comes off as poor management (servers don’t care). The outdoor setup is so ambitious it feels like a trap and puts employees in awkward situations (for which they aren’t tipped for). I’m sure I’m not the only person angsty about this.

My fiancé bought coffee from here I ordered an iced tea. It was tasty. Nice setup inside outside seating seems busy. The windows open up to the street which is nice.

No egg sandwiches on the weekend in the front section.only on weekdays is a big miss. Customers have to use back section. Coffee is great, chill space to work but the weekend food option drop off is mediocre.

In the bathroom, there was the usual "Employees must wash hands before returning to work" sign next to the empty soap dispenser and the employees didn't know how to refill it.

I enjoyed the coffee and food in the dining area, but the baristas just don't seem to care about health safety and are reluctant to address anything that's not their direct job. I had a great experience in the dining area, but couldn't find soap in the bathroom which is located in the coffee area. I tried to wash my hands before and after eating. That would mean there was no soap in the bathroom for at least two hours. Then I approached the baristas at the coffee counter and asked them to refill the soap dispenser; I asked them twice, two different employees. They said it would be taken care of but took no action. One of them just sat and used their phone. I finally asked a third employee who went over to look for the soap but "couldn't find the key to for the thing". After that, they finally let me borrow a soap bottle from the food counter.
I wonder if the soap ever gets refilled there. That's a huge health concern.

The foam heart on my cappuccino and teapot for my friends' earl grey were perfect for two moms waiting to pick up kids from a birthday party!

In my opinion if you want good coffee than this is the place to come to. It also has a great ambience, good food and friendly staff. Their restaurant food has never disappointed us and I highly recommend it for brunch.

Also if you have not allergies, than this is a good place to visit as they have always ensure their nuts are separate from everything else.
