This is certainly your authentic Sichuan restaurant that you can take your partner on a date with. The Eastern Pavilion surpasses TAO's Fusion and Spice Workshop as the best place to have Sichuan signatures around Stony Brook and essentially the whole of Suffolk county East of Nicolls Road. My wife and I tried their wontons in hot chili oil, Dan Dan noodle as appetizers and they were great! Mala Xiang Guo was on point. We like our Hao Jiao (tongue numbing peppercorn) and as requested made it to our preferred spice level. They have American Chinese on the menu too, we will never try it but I'm pretty sure it must be good here judging by how good the authentic stuff is. They also have a nice sushi bar with a really nice Asian alcohol menu. It's way easier to communicate with the servers here because they are quite fluent in English and they are always very friendly with us. Stony Brook is truly blessed to host the most authentic Indian (Taj) and Chinese restaurants either side of a fence.

This is one of the best Chinese/Japanese fusion restaurants on Long Island. Consistently delicious food and very friendly service. My kids love Wonton soup, chicken broccoli, miso soup, salmon teriyaki, fresh salad. Hand down the only Chinese food I order from, beautiful inside out.

Party of 15, we sat upstairs which might as well been an empty room. It took almost two hours to feed everyone, with some meals being served in 20 min and other meals being served in 120 min. It was a crazy experience. No chance that we'll go back with a large group anytime soon.

Worst restaurant services. Came to this restaurant a couple times. First off, the waiters are waitress are never really professional because they have slightly English barriers and would not understand my order. But I accepted it but the second time it was only worse as our waitress was very rude because she was yelling at my friend when she tried to rush the food despite the fact that it was already an hour in. Management needs to re-consider when it comes to hiring people with professional serving skills and a kind heart. Please avoid this restaurant if possible. It will disappoint you as it already did to many others.

Poor service, food too saucy and rude waiter (short male waiter). Plenty of other choices in the area.
No reason for us to go back.

Couldn’t retain simple info such as phone # & address, even after repeating & spelling it out for her numerous times, had to call me back to get it again. Arrived super late. Rude when i called to check. Unapologetic. Food was cold. Stale/old fortune cookies. Even though crazy high priced, first time was good - this time, they lost a customer. Not worth it?

This review is based on my first visit and I will update it after the second visit. I've lived in the area for a few years but have still been using our standard take-out establishment that we were very happy with 6 or 7 miles away. We were looking for a nice dine-in restaurant and just realized this place was renovated so we gave it a try. We went for an early lunch on a Sunday. There was only 3 tables. The waiter had a very thick accent and hard to understand and because we're not familiar with their menu we struggled a bit, but that's ok. We were there for a light lunch and my wife and young son are traditionalists and ordered the basics. The portions were plentiful and tasty. I usually am a "menu studier" but it's a large menu and the waiter offered to take our order before I was ready and we agreed (AKA young son and hungry wife). So many of the reviews on here talk about the same old boring dishes (General Tso's, etc). I asked about a dish that I've enjoyed at another restaurants and reluctantly took the suggestion of the hard to understand waiter, not knowing what I was going to get. YES, it was very similar and YES I found my new favorite dish! If you're a spicy dish lover, you should try it. Although the name doesn't sound appetizing, this dish was awesome. Spicy Boiled Beef.large portion of sliced beef in a very spicy chili oil & minced garlic sauce. Aside from the heat, it had so much flavor depth. It will be one of my new go-to dishes.
After reading some other reviews, I learned that tea is typically served but we didn't get any (maybe because it was lunch?). We would've enjoyed it, but maybe next time we'll be more aware. The waiter could've been a little more friendlier but I will write it off as having a large language barrier.
Overall, we were pleased and I will definitely go there again for both take-out and dine-in. It may even replace our old go-to.

This place is just as good as I remember it was over 20 years ago when I worked at Stony Brook U. The place has had a face lift and looks nicer bur the food is still the same! Thank god! Amazing It is a staple in the stony brook community and college. Hope this place lives on forever and continues to have amazing chefs come through and pass on their knowledge so that it may prosper forever! Hands down one of the best places out of all the North shore of Long Island.

Hi
We were just there on Saturday and the food was amazing, the chef is excellent but the service was horrible, I never experienced that kind of service ever. As soon as we arrived the women taking care of take out was yelling at a customer and the customer was not reciprocating, we waited at least a half hour for a table no one approached us the whole time, they weren’t terribly busy but we stayed and waited anyway, The waiter sat us down never asked us if we wanted tea and did not put noodles on the table, when we were ready to order it took them at least 15 min to come back to our table. As we ordering she kept turning away from us before we were done. It was rushed and rude! We got our food and ask the waiter for more noodles and he said we eat to much! (Verbatim)
I cannot say anything bad about the food. I can say we will never go back there again. We left a small tip reflecting on the service.
We were very disappointed.

Amazing experience. They’ve revamped both the interior and menu and it is vastly improved. Best Chinese restaurant around. Try the dry pot!

The food is improving! I ordered first when I moved back to the area. I rated their Chicken and Broccoli, a takeout classic, a 3/5. It was boring and bland. However, I ordered it again just the other day and it was fantastic - an easy 5/5 and the best I've had. The chicken had better texture, the sauce you could drink on its own, the broccoli was very fresh, and.why am I gushing over chicken and broccoli? Well, few places get it this right. My only criticism is that the some of the rice granules were hard. I think it needs to be better-hydrated when it is steamed/prepared.

As for a criticism of the restaurant itself.the menu is much too much. Take the Gordon Ramsay advice of cutting down the menu and bringing each item to absolute perfection, like you did to the Chicken and Broccoli. It's less $$$ in inventory, less waste, and greater reviews. Have a specialty menu for chef creations people can order from on occasion. Change it for seasonal ingredients.

Excellent sushi and atmosphere is very impressive. Service was okay. Not very friendly. Also we were there at 3 and told lunch over but take away menu said lunch served until 4. But food and surroundings were great

Went to Eastern pavilion on a Wednesday for dinner. We were the only two people in the restaurant. We made our order and waited for our crunchy noodles and duck sauce. Had to ask for them. Then we had to ask for tea. Did not give any sugar for my tea. The egg foo young was very good. The chicken meal was good. As we're chewing our food the waiter came over and said are you done. We're still chewing our food.got the check never asked if we wanted dessert. They have to brush up on there server skills. The place is beautiful and the food is good.

Was here the first time for my birthday dinner—WOW, what an unexpected wonderful experience. The inside has been fully renovated and looks beautiful. Clean and modern decor that you can tell the owners truly take pride in. The food was equally delicious—our table had a variety of appetizers and main courses, everything was cooked perfectly and flavorful. Beef with broccoli was excellent. Service was also excellent. Such a treat to have this fabulous restaurant in the neighborhood—-we will most certainly be back! Highly recommended.
