Essex Taqueria, New York NY

Granted I ate here after a night out but they have amazing tacos which are quite substantial in size. I have been dying to go back!

I got my got my girlfriend food here she loves their food. She gets a steak bowl and nothing spicy and i order it saying nothing spicy. But today they put spicy sauce so she called and told them her order was wrong they told her I ordered her food with everything. The first thing I said was NOTHING SPICY and they told her I was lying she was on the phone with me when I ordered the food so she knows what I ordered she continued to tell them that she was on the phone with me and the lady told her it wasn't our problem and proceeded to hang up.she called again and they kept forwarding her calls she got A call back from them ans they told her that I said everything on it and said that they have a lot of orders that they cannot deal with her and that's I was lying and that it's not my problem when she asked if it can be remade they said no that it wasn't their problem and hung up. We go here a lot for her cause she loves their food and they usually have an attitude with us but we never put to much thought but today was the last straw

Hit up the taco truck on Avenue A and 2nd street instead of this place. Decided to update this review in case I’d gone there on an off day. In fact no update needed. This place was at one time (circa 2018) the best in the neighborhood and now it’s one of the worst.

Be warned! VERY questionable food practices. I once had chorizo that tasted outright bad/rancid. One of the few meals that I've outright had to chuck out in my life. I had another bad experience with them on a different meat and decided to call it quits - permanently.

To add insult to injury, they used to have some of the best chicken tinga in the city. It was seared cubes but then they switched to bland pulled chicken which is a complete joke because Essex LES is literally across the street and has the best pulled chicken in NYC.

It's a little hole in the wall kind of place but those are the ones that are good! Had spicy chicken and shrimp tacos. They're very generous with the filling and both were really delicious. Took me right back to Mexico city. I just had these last night and I'm craving them already this morning. There are about three little tables and a few stools along the wall if you want to sit inside but it's quite small. The people working are also very, very, nice!

This place is not good. The fish taco and quac were both bland. The chips were so greasy and just tasted like the oil they was cooked in. I was so disappointed in the lack of flavor. Would not recommend.

Hands down the best tacos in all of NYC! My partner and I come here all the time. Out of all the places we have tried, these are always consistently good. They are also reasonably priced as well and are open late. Highly recommend!

Love the Tortas the spot. Locations amazing! But the price seems a bit too high. But everything is tasty and delish!

I would definitely come back here and I do recommend! I was in the neighborhood, looked up taco spots and saw good reviews on this place. It did not disappoint. I demolished my tacos. I barely got a good picture of my food. Tasty, spicy, and delicious. All of the stars!

I was so sad to had food here it was such a bad experience. I used to come years back and the burritos are so bad now! No guacamole and it’s so dry. What a waist of money! Also the cashier was rude and not helpful

Asked them for their favorite meat. They said asada, so I got the asada bowl.

This is "high school baseball athletic complex snack shack" level of taste and quality. Maybe worse.

I came here to get food during my lunch break, which I usually do. The service is normally mediocre, nothing bad, nothing good. But today the workers were staring at my boyfriend & I funny, and they proceeded to get our order wrong. As my boyfriend was explaining to them how his order is usually made, they laughed after he pronounced “chorizo”. I’m not sure what they were trying to achieve, but it was offensive, as we were just trying to get our food. After we requested to get it fixed, they denied our request. They did provide us with a refund, but we left hungry all because they refused to correct the order. Never again.

Let's be clear - you are NOT going to this restaurant for date night or for the "let's-be-seen" crowd, but you will NOT be disappointed with your meal. The food is fresh, super tasty and well-priced. I love that you can essentially customize pretty much every order to your preference - no lettuce in my burrito, please! No matter ahat, you will be full & satisfied!

I LOVE THIS PLACE! Stays open till about 1am on the weekend. Best Tacos in the City to me.

The carne asada quesadilla was incredibly satisfying. The perfect spot to end a long fun night. It was amazing
