I wish I can give 0 stars. My gf went here because she has been in excruciating pain due to the need for 2 root canals. They gave her a 4pm appointment today. My gf chose this place because it takes Medicaid. Ever since we stepped into the office they made every excuse in the book not to even look at her. Hes going on vacation soon and this takes multiple sittings. Your insurance doesn't cover root canals. Theres an age restriction. He doesnt have room for new patients at the time. The list goes on. Then after my gf exploded into tears I pleaded that they at least check her out and see if anything can be done for pain. Nothing was done after that and the dentist even said he doesnt even do root canals and usually sends patients to a specialist. Another excuse. Well, we called her insurance and root canals are covered. Molars are covered (that's where the infection is) and theres no over 21 restriction. They basically pushed her out because shes Medicaid and because it was near closing time. (They chose the 4pm appointment, not my gf)

My mom was a dental hygienist. My aunt was a dental hygienist. My grandmother retired as a dental hygienist. I was at dentist offices and around dentists my whole life. I've even had, not proud to admit, over half a dozen root canals in my life. I know the pain shes in and I know that every single one of my root canals were done in 1 sitting. Even major decayed ones. This dentist office spit every excuse out of the book at us and all were lies but one (root canals would require preapproval from Medicaid) But guess what, I was on the phone with medicaid while she was in there and the representative said that it's not hard to get that and even gave me the approval phone number for dentist to call to expedite it. As long as in the request its put in as a medical need which it is because she has infections.

I told the receptionist I know people affiliated with the ADA retired and active and I'm taking this to the better business bureau. Never in my whole life have I witnessed someone in desperate need lied to and denied just because of her insurance. Shes a straight medicaid plan until September 1st until shes covered under another plan. Medicaid covers dental and root canals. She could see ANY DENTIST that takes Medicaid until 8/31 which is over 3 weeks away. The representative told me on phone that the dentist office has no legit reason to turn her away like that.

Despicable behavior. I dont care how nice the dentist may or may not be. They weren't going to even examine her. Unfortunately nothing was done and she still is on pain killers and antibiotics because she was turned away.

UPDATE IN RESPONSE TO OWNER.

According to her coverage, Root canals are covered without age restrictions. Even more specifc, MOLAR ROOT CANALS ARE COVERED AS WELL. According to your online, you take Medicaid as "limited" as it is. That was the sole reason she chose your dentist was because you are in her coverage. You chose not to help her citing the excuses of no new patients due to a "full roster. " You told her that you were going on vacation. You told her you dont do root canals. Then you told her her coverage wasnt sufficient enough for the procedure. Which we verified it was.

Plain and simple you shot her down because of her Medicaid. You have it advertised on your website for charitable reasons and possibly tax write offs. And even more simply because it was closing time and you rushed her out.

I was on the phone with medicaid while she was in your office and explaining to the representative what was going on. She told me your office had no legit reasons to not treat her and if it was about the pre approval, she gave me a number for the dentist to call directly for that preapproval. All that needed to be stated was that her root canal was a medical necessity. Which being that she has an infection, is. Even more so, because you turned her away I have it on record with this review and God forbid anything happens due to that infection I will hold you liable.

I just wanted to give a quick thank you to Family Dental Care for the gentle treatment you always give to my sister Mary. Mary has brain damage and suffers from a lot of anxiety but Dr Souferian and his crew always manage to keep her calm and relaxed. For our money, the best cosmetic dentist in Bay Ridge!
