Fraunces Tavern reviews
19Super cool historic interior. One of the oldest restaurant in the US. Loved just being there eating/drinking knowing George Washington did the same
Great atmosphere, tasty, excellent drink selections and wonderful service. All the food was well prepared but one item, the scotch egg was disappointing. I just didn't like the Asian flavors added to this traditional dish. It didn't quite make sense particularly when they promoted their own blend of sausage mix and put a piece of excellent cheddar with it. The same with the pot roast flatbread. The beef was great but combined with the flatbread it was good but odd. The pork chop, wings and fish and chips were great as was the sticky toffee pudding for desert. GET THE CHOWDER! It's wonderful and the best oysters I've ever had. The live music was nice but unneeded. Fraunces Tavern is a great place to spend an evening.
The Tavern was very nice in atmosphere, food, and location.
If you find yourself around the FiDi area, give it a try!
Nice looking place, great atmosphere. Good service. Decent food at decent New York prices. Recommend the Rubin and chicken pot pie
Fraunces Tavern is a gem! Especially the piano bar upstairs on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. Lauren and Kristin are insanely talented, and will keep you entertained for hours! Food and beverages are delicious! 5+ stars!
A cool place for drinks or lunch/dinner. Probably the closest place to an English pub I have experienced in the US. Has character from it's history.we had lunch today and the service was excellent. Will go back in a few days for dinner ant that will probably raise my rating to 5 stars. Lunch today was good, just not outstanding.
One of the oldest taverns since 1762. When you walk in, you feel like you are home. Great selection of whiskey, scotch and bourbon. The bar tenders know their drinks and are very pleased to start a conversation with you
We stopped on for wine and charcuterie. Well executed plate was served with a nice pinot. Historic atmosphere.
What an incredible place, great food, great beer and an incredible history! Make a little time to check out the museum upstairs when you go!
The staff was rude. The museum was very underwhelming. If you miss this on your New York City trip then don’t worry about it
We went to Fraunces for our anniversary dinner, and we were not disappointed. The building itself was decorated for Christmas, and the food was fantastic. Our server seemed a little new, but we had a pleasant evening enjoying each others' company and the food. I got the salmon, my husband got the short rib pie, and we shared a plate of the fried cauliflower. Definitely going to be on our repeat list in the future!
The feel of an important place is there. As if the decisions made on the second floor still would influence the entire nation. Wonderful food.
So cozy and delightful after riding the Staten Island ferry. We got there right at 12 noon too which was lucky because they filled up fast-make reservations if you don't want to sit at the bar like we did. Bartender (Kevin?) is super friendly and familiar with the locals that sat flanking us. We got hit apple cider (spiked and unspiked) + a bowl of New England chowder that might've been the best I've ever had.
Wonderful place with a killer ambiance, and excellent food and service. It's good to note too that you'll be dining in a piece of history, not to mention the oldest restaurant in NYC.
Everything was so delicious. We had the Pot Pie, Fish and Chips, and Grilled Cheese and Tomato Bisque. We followed that up with the Stocky Tofie Pudding. Everything was so delicious. My only beef was that they did not give a Military Discount - even on Veterans Day. Definitely recommend this tavern but they could step up to the plate and honor those who served in such a historic venue.
What a great experience! The place is lovely, the service is fantastic and the food is simply amazing. Definitely try the scotch egg and Mac and cheese - We were thrilled!
Step back in time, and eat where George Washington ate. Interior looks like you have stepped back in time. Good service, nicely decorated. Just had appetizers because of the time, but they were very good.
Beautiful place with good food. My 9 year old tried to take my fish and chips and she loved the upstairs museum. "Mama, George Washington was right here in this room! " Everyone was very nice as well.
I wish I could give this place 6 stars. I have been wanting to go there for years and actually got the opportunity to eat there 4 times this past week. You could talk all day about the history of this location. We got to tour the museum upstairs, highly recommend you do that. I tried the burger, fish n chips, lots of oysters and a few beers including oyster stout. My wife says the chicken pot pie is the best she ever had. Adam was our server twice and Kevin at the bar did an amazing job juggling a million things at once. With the service, the food, and an amazing location, this is a must go to for anyone visiting the waterfront area. I look forward to going back again next year.
