2Messa qui in Washington Square fa il suo effetto.almeno a noi italiani
One of the interesting monuments at Washington Square Park is the bronze statue of Giuseppe Garibaldi, the 19th-century Italian patriot who campaigned and fought for a unified Italy.
This monument is the works of Italian-American sculptor Giovanni Turini and dedicated in 1888. Here you find a bronze, life-sized statue of a middle-aged Garibaldi, with his right arm crossing his chest reaching for his sword. It is standing upon a granite pedestal with an inscription of his name and the dates of his birth and death.
This is one of several interesting monuments that can be viewed at Washington Squark Park. Others include the bust of Alexander Lyman Holley as well as the Washington Square fountain and monumental arch.
