It felt like I went back in time when I walked into this place. I did not come prepared for the experience but it was cool to do. There are definitely better places in the area but everyone should try it once.

Big, rowdy, bustling, with loud Chinese ladies hollering their foodstuffs in Cantonese, Mandarin or English, as needed. Staff is brisk and brusk, but standardly applied to all. Food was great, tea was refilled with hot water, and good conversations were had with old friends. Authentic plates with some surprises with new egg-crème-filled baos. Recommended experience.

Fast service, an Asian restaurant atmosphere with a huge choice. A real experience to live.

This is THE PLACE for Dim Sum, it’s my go to. I’ve tried a bunch of places in the city and Golden Unicorn is by far the best. Food is fresh and delicious, atmosphere is fun, service is fast prices are reasonable. I recommend this place to everybody I talk to! My fav dishes are the shrimp rice noodles, pineapple bun, and pork steamed bun. Soups dumplings are also excellent.

A Dim Sum restaurant in Chinatown - NYC

The food here is delicious but the service is lacking.

Atmosphere: The restaurant space is located on the 2nd floor and is accessed by way of elevator. Each floor has something different such as an event space and store. When you first walk into the restaurant, you find yourself in the beautifully decorated dining area.
Service: Our service wasn’t of the best quality. We’d ask our waiter about ordering some dishes that we saw being brought out to other guests, and he’d just look at us and then walk away. He wasn’t helpful nor seemed to care how he treated us and in the end just avoided us. We had to ask other workers for help.
Menu items: The food here on the other hand is delicious. They’ll bring around carts with different food items to choose from. Once you decide on what you want, they’ll stamp a sheet of paper to keep track so that you can continue to pick as many items as you want.

The restaurant in and of itself is very nice with so many great food options. The service here makes the whole experience unenjoyable.

Decent food but you’re mostly here for the Chinese banquet hall experience. I’ve definitely had better food elsewhere, and it is kind of difficult to get servers’ attention because of all the people. But the dining area is unique and it’s great for large groups

We waited 2 hours for a table for 3 on an Saturday where they booked two massive events at the restaurant. Just close the store to not force people to wait so long. Awful service, and there is better dim sum in China town.

Food 7/10
Have been here quite a number of times in the years I’ve been in NYC. Each time, the food quality maintains a solid quality level. The go-to’s are the soup dumplings, shrimp dumplings, pork cha shao baos, egg yolk liu sha baos, and rice noodles.

Atmosphere 5/10
Large ballroom, open plan, multiple floors. A casual meal.

Service 7/10
No nonsense ayis’ pushing around carts is exactly what you get here. Don’t come with strong Western expectations of service, you will be disappointed. But it’s perfect for when you’re craving authentic dim sum.

Golden Unicorn is a legendary multi-level dim sum palace with some of the best food and service in Chinatown. You won't get talkative, friendly wait staff but you will be served nearly instantly some of the best Chinese food you have ever eaten. Hot and fresh food served on an endless stream of dim sum carts. We usually order kitchen dishes and our favorites are the beef or seafood over crispy rice noodles, beef chow fun or lobster (when offered on special). They made the crispy noodle dishes perfectly on our last visit; so good! We miss the mega palace Jing Fong where we often visited before it closed down (there is now a smaller place by the same name we haven't yet tried) - the food at Golden Unicorn is better but pricier, and it is more intimate and not such a scene as the old Jing Fong. I go with my Chinese-American family members and they are able to converse with the staff but note many staff members speak limited English. Don't be intimidated by that; pointing and smiling are encouraged! The hosts usually can help if there are any questions, for drink ordering and paying the bill. Enjoy!

I chose this place for the dim sum carts. My kid likes watching and picking up them. It is definitely delicious too.

Upon attempting to order, we were told by the server in a curt and impatient way that most of the menu was not available — only the two pages of dim sum dishes we could order. It arrived slowly. The food itself was just okay.
One minor other gripe is that the interior has multiple TV screens playing news which my party and myself found distracting and unpleasant.
Overall would not recommend this particularly considering the wealth of other delicious food in NYC Chinatown.

Amazing food delivered by cart in a fun second story dining room. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Our twin ten year olds loved every minute.

Exuberant, exhilarating place to eat great food in the nation's second largest Chinese community. Excellent service, great prices! Must go@

We were here in 2019 and loved it.
Things have changed since then but the food is still fantastic, the service is impeccable plus we had a great time! When we were in China they have banquet halls with this type of formal service. We couldn’t have been happier.
Won’t wait so long next time.

I actually ordered for delivery so I am unsure about how the restaurant’s atmosphere is, but I’ll give them 5 stars for it anyway. The food we got delivered were so good and everything was accounted for. Will def order again and would also recommend to everyone.

Unfortunately, the food was a disappointment and pricey. I was super excited about trying this place but I will be looking elsewhere for dim sum in the future.

Golden Unicorn stands out from the rest of the dim sum places I’ve tried in New York. Really good dim sum - fresh, tasty and a lot of ingredients.

So other reviews had mentioned the service was a little rushed and sloppy, and I'd say if you didn't grow up around this, then yes, it may seem that way, but this is somewhat typical for these types of restaurants.

The service was fast.the ladies walked around getting the food to the tables pretty quickly. Sloppy with service I don't agree with. If your table isn't a little dirty after eating, then I'm not sure you are getting the full experience, lol.

Almost all the food served to us was super hot except for the fried shrimp balls I ordered towards the end. Those were a little warm, but the plate itself was good eats.

The servers came around often and always asked if we needed anything.

As far as the people in the restaurant, we'll we were here on a Friday afternoon, and we saw plenty of Asian patrons eating here as well as lots of Americans or let me say white people.

So who's cares if it's touristy or not. (I say not because there are other places you would consider more touristy than this place.)

All the dishes were good and just as I remembered as a kid growing up in Chinatown.

The Shumai sometimes can have an aftertaste, which these do not. We had both the steamed chaciu baos and baked, and they were very good.

My son tried the spare rib tips for the first time, and we had to order him a 2nd plate he liked them that much.

The soup dumplings were ok, I will say I have had better at other places that were known for just soup dumplings. These were a little deflated, but they still tasted fine.

Along the side street, there is a takeout part of the restaurant for frozen dimsum to take home, which was ok.

I kinda felt if they were frozen and take home, the prices would have been a little cheaper.

In the end, if we are in Chinatown again, we would definitely eat here, and if things change, I will update my review, but we were quite pleased with this place.
