The reviews don't match my experience.
The waiter was overburdened and lacked leadership. He had to be constantly reminded of empty drinks.the restaurant didn't live up to my expectations. Therefore, I would say I was disappointed

So we went there for restaurant week. The food quality wasn’t bad, but I am concerned with the customer service. (The lobster on the regular menu tasted awful: not worth $58 in my opinion. But the $7 bread was amazing)

(1) the appetizer included in the $60 bundle meal was charged again in my final receipt, I caught it and asked them to change back. It happened to another friend of mine recently too in this restaurant. I wonder if it’s the restaurant’s plan or it’s some waiter’s/waitress’ intentional mistake. Very suspicious.

(2) During the time when I was chatting with my friend over dinner, different waiters and waitress kept coming to check with us, making us feel we were over staying.

I would not recommend. It does not take much to please me when it comes to food but this experience was overall very disappointing. The service was slow to even get a drink. Once our food was delivered to our table, there was no follow up about quality or how we were enjoying our meals. I had to let the waitress know about dietary restrictions. At a restaurant like this, I would have expected her to ask when approaching the table. When we received our check, our waitress was long gone so I paid with the QR code found in the check book.
Regarding the food, I ordered the duck and it was cold and the pieces were fat heavy so not much to eat. My husband was not feeling well after the lobster dish which caused us to leave in a hurry. For the price, it was not worth it at all. As we were leaving, the hostess asked me how we enjoyed it and I was very honest. There was supposed to be follow up from the GM but I have not heard anything. Very disappointing and unfortunately I won't be coming back.

This is one of my fav restaurants in the city. Very good food, great ambiance. I always meet with friends here

Classy joint, very attentive staff. I only deducted a couple stars because I saw a man murdered while there.

We could not have spent a better Christmas Eve in NYC! The coat check was seamless, the gentleman in the red paisley jacket was so kind and welcoming, and our waiter was phenomenal. There was a live jazz band and they were exceptional; I wish our reservation was earlier than 8: 30 PM to listen to them longer. Our waiter was so kind and down to earth. He explained the menu details and was very attentive without being intrusive. The drinks were on point: Oo La La was delicious, as was the Coconut Cloud. The homemade bread and butter was delicious, and the oysters, oh, the oysters, to die for! I had the Honeynut Squash Soup, and I wanted to box it up and eat for lunch during the week. The beef with mole sauce was to die for. I typically eat my food quickly, but I was cutting the beef in smaller pieces to keep eating it. So wonderful.

An absolutely amazing experience, food was delicious. Staff couldn’t do enough for you, and Billy on the bar was lovely we sat at the bar for about an hour just chatting to him.

Glamorous setting. Good food. Certainly an enjoyable night out. But you pay through the nose and for me at least nothing rose to the level of special.

Went to Gotham for Xmas eve to enjoy their special dinner. A bit pricey coming from Paris - not sure how a Xmas eve special dinner would compare in other nyc restaurants - but we had a great experience, food was really good (albeit the steak was a bit salty to our taste) and the staff was super super nice and helpful and even went out of their way to give us tips for our stay in NYC. Would definitely recommend this place to have tasty food and a nice time in New York. Thanks very much for everything!

The best in terms of service, food, atmosphere, drinks-these folks are pros and it's clear. Unlike other restaurants that have been around a long time, they're not on autopilot surviving on their past reputation. From the moment we walked in to our exit, there were zero hiccups, nothing sub-par-everything was delicious and service via various staff members was friendly, timely and on point. We mentioned it was our anniversary when making reservations and everyone wished us happy anniversary without us having to remind them-like we were old friends. We had cocktails, bread, oysters, a special app, the duck, the halibut and dessert-all were delicious - can't even say one was a standout, they were all excellent, although the tarte tatin for two was as good as being in France. Yes, it's pricey, but well worth it for a flawless experience we won't soon forget.

Great food and service. The food was fabulous. The service amazing. The tarte tatin was the best I've ever had. Give this place a shot.

Good food, one of the servers was not in time to order my food he said something about some clown guy, and came back with a black eye, everything was fine tho, would go again no i'm not referencing batman, this actually happened, it looked like makeup too

Great atmosphere. An upscale new American restaurant with fresh ingredients. We had the duck which is really good and fresh and a large portion and then we had the steak which did come out undercooked quite a bit and then honestly I didn’t love that they just threw it back on the grill and it came out all different sorts of cooked throughout. The french fries were very expensive and very cold, so that was a bummer if I had noticed before I probably would’ve sent them back. Good meal I’d probably come back, but the prices are high for what you’re getting.

Beautiful experience in upscale, but relaxed environment. Our family thoroughly enjoyed every moment, every dish and the staff’s impeccable attention to our needs. Tartar was incredible, as was the soup. Foie gras was perfectly executed and entrees were divine. Perfectly executed from beginning to end! Thank you for having our family!

Enjoyed the setting and the extremely attentive and friendly staff. Professional Service at its best. We had the Tuna Tartar and then a varirty of mains. Food was good - but the Lobster stuck out - delicous! Some nice wines on the menu - a bit too pricy calculated I think!

Review from a Feb 2023 visit. Massive variance between the price point and our experience for the evening. I've heard amazing things about this restaurant over the years but it would appear the changing of the guard after the pandemic has caused a noticeably dip in quality.

The service was objectively great, very attentive to detail and friendly/informed, no issues with adjusting meals for the vegetarian in our group. The interior felt and looked cramped in certain areas as the evening got busier. And lastly for the first half of our visit there was staff and maintenance working on fixing the AC, we were very cold while waiting for our first dishes and greeted with occasional burning/dirty smells while they were working on a fix.

The meal itself was good, nothing revelatory in terms of new flavors or ideas, just quality ingredients made well. For a few specific weak points - the truffle pasta special was just not worth anywhere close to the price, and the root veg on the roast special were under seasoned. Chocolate tart for dessert was excellent.

My wife and I celebrated our 22 year anniversary at Gotham. We have been here several times. The entire staff is friendly and welcoming. The food and drinks are on point. If you are looking to celebrate a special event or just want exceptional food, drinks and service then Gotham is the place.

Just like the old Gotham Bar and Grill of the late 90's, maybe even better! Exceptional food, service, and professionalism. Som chose a terrific and reasonable wine for us. Front staff attentive and welcoming. Deserves a star, if not two! Bravo!
