It's a good place for some peace and quiet. I'll probably do the tour of the island next time.

I had high expectations for a day trip to Governors Island but it was honestly.a strange vibe. I think it's worth checking out if you live locally and just want something to do (maybe not on a peak summer day but in the slight off-season). That being said. I don't know.it was kind of strange with abandoned buildings and really expensive food carts. The food was fine/good but not anything to write home about. There are also some cool spots, and would probably have been better if I had brought my own bike. It's a pretty big place to get around, though you certainly can walk, and the bike sharing situation was not working well (most of them were out of order when I was last there).

Strange spot, in my opinion, not the worst if you need some nature but I'd suggest bringing sufficient food, drink, snacks, a bike/be prepared to walk a lot, a picnic blanket, etc.

Wow this place is a hidden jem. A 5 mile nite ferry ride from Manhattan. $4 for the ride. Island is kid friendly. Glamming looked amazing. The Spa is incredible. And the view from the spa is surreal.

Escape the hustle and bustle of New York City and discover an exceptional sanctuary that promises to dissolve all your stress. This haven is brimming with enticing attractions, including delectable food vendors, convenient bike rentals, cozy hammocks, thrilling slides, exhilarating zip lines, and challenging wall climbing activities. History buffs will be delighted to explore the two fascinating forts that grace the premises. For the little ones, a plethora of engaging activities awaits. As you ascend the hill, prepare to be mesmerized by an awe-inspiring panoramic vista that encompasses Liberty Island, the captivating skylines of New Jersey and New York. To make your experience even more enjoyable, take advantage of the complimentary bike rentals available from Monday to Friday, provided you arrive before noon. Governors Island is a unique and charming destination that offers a wonderful escape from the hustle and bustle of New York City. Located just off the southern tip of Manhattan, this 172-acre island has a rich history and provides a serene retreat with stunning views of the city skyline.

One of the best aspects of Governors Island is its accessibility. Visitors can reach the island by ferry, which adds an element of adventure to the experience. The short ferry ride itself is enjoyable, providing picturesque views of the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, and the Lower Manhattan skyline.

Once on the island, you'll find a variety of activities to suit different interests. The island's expansive green spaces are perfect for picnics, leisurely strolls, or relaxing in the shade. The bike rental services make it easy to explore the island at your own pace, allowing you to visit its numerous historic landmarks, art installations, and natural landscapes.

The island also hosts a vibrant calendar of events and festivals throughout the year. From food festivals to art exhibitions, concerts, and outdoor movie screenings, there's always something happening on Governors Island. These events add to the island's lively atmosphere and make it a popular spot for both locals and tourists.

Furthermore, Governors Island offers a range of dining options, from food trucks and casual eateries to upscale restaurants. You can enjoy a delicious meal while taking in the breathtaking views of the harbor and skyline.

One of the few drawbacks of Governors Island is its limited operating season. The island is typically open to the public from May to October, which means it may not be accessible during the colder months. Additionally, some visitors might find the island's relatively small size limiting, especially if they are seeking a more extensive outdoor experience.

Overall, Governors Island is a hidden gem in New York City, offering a peaceful oasis with stunning views and a wide range of activities. Whether you're looking for a relaxing day in nature, cultural events, or a family-friendly outing, Governors Island has something to offer everyone. It's a must-visit destination for both locals and tourists seeking a unique and memorable experience in the Big Apple

Island a few minutes by ferry from battery park. There are ferries every 30 minutes. The island is a large public park very popular with New Yorkers, lots of greenery and areas for picnics. If you have some time left over from your itinerary, I recommend a stop

The island really had improved over the years. I was there in October for the Jack o Lantern event. I have recently visited with my bike and enjoyed riding car-free.

There is always something happening on the weekend. This week it was a jazz festival with people in 1920's clothing, an Audubon tour, art museums and two early fortresses.

Easy and inexpensive to get to by ferry. Some easy walks/hikes. Great views. A few dining options. And the best glamping ever with Collective Retreats! Worth a visit!

During Covid and Winter, I wouldn't recommend this place unless you're here for the National Park stamp / Junior Ranger or you're coming for ice skating for the Winter Village - too much is closed down so after making your loop around the island, that's all that there is to it.

We started on a 12: 45 PM walking tour on 2/19/2022 but cut it short and took the ferry back to the mainland when a spur of the moment snowstorm hit and the tour guide decided to still do the 15 minute introduction outside of the main building. I didn't have gloves or earmuffs and it was just way too cold to stand stationary for that long.

If you don't care about National Park stuff, you should wait on visiting until the weather is warmer and more of the buildings aside from the bathroom and coffee shop open up.

One of my favorite places to visit during the summer and even more so now that the island is accessible year round. I'm able to ride my bicycle around the island and explore different areas.

Easy access to this small and less known island right in the New York harbor area. You can take the ferry from downtown Manhattan and be in the island in a few minutes, walking or riding a bike this is a peaceful and well maintained place. In a busy day make sure you plan your return to the city.
