Had my hair colored in a mushroom brown foilayage by Jack and I’m super happy with the results. He was very attentive - my hair was not taking the dye and it took 2-3 tries to get the color right. He was patient and explained the process to me. I love the result! Would definitely be coming back

I have never been happier with a cut and color than this! Jack is a magician and got the exact color and balayage style I wanted. They were extremely thorough and so nice. The salon itself is clean, cozy and the hair wash stations were actually comfortable.

You can't go wrong with Jack, I'll never get colored by someone else.

Hair Philosophy is a beautiful salon, and all their staff are so warm and welcoming. Even in the middle of COVID, they make you feel safe about coming here. I came for a foilyage with Jack, and I highly recommend him if you're looking to color your hair. He takes his time to answer your questions, and give you his professional opinion. This is my second time going to Jack, and I'm always so happy with the results.

I got a silvery-white foilyage from Jack and couldn't be happier with the results! After hearing about Jack through a coworker, I send Jack a few pictures of what I had in mind and we set up an appointment. He was efficient and thorough, and the end result was spectacular. It was amazing to see the mental image I had manifested on my own hair Afterwards, Jack was very patient and answered all my questions about styling and maintenance. Highly recommend!

I cannot rave about Hair Philosophy enough! I found this salon a year ago when I came across an Instagram ad for their balayage promotion. By a stroke of luck, I was assigned the best stylist I have ever met: AJ. I came in with a choppy haircut that my friend messed up and uneven magenta box dye. I knew I wanted a balayage, but had no idea what color would work. AJ gave me amazing recommendations and I trusted him immediately—I told him to do whatever he thought would look good on me. He fixed my horrible haircut and color with a blue-grey balayage that faded into grey. I came back a couple months later so he could fix one layer of my hair after it grew out a little more; he also re-toned my hair, leaving a beautiful ash-grey result.

This was in October 2020 and I haven’t been back since, not because I didn’t want to, but because I didn’t need to. The ash-grey faded and didn’t get brassy whatsoever, due to AJ’s genius with color theory and his handiwork. I came back August 2021 to get a new color, this time a rose gold/dusty look. He took his time to consult with me on what specific shade would suit me the most and listened carefully to what I wanted. The entire bleaching and coloring process took over 5 hours and we were almost done… when him and his assistant realized they missed coloring a small piece! While other stylists may just try to hide it from their client, AJ admitted his assistant’s mistake and fixed it in 5 minutes, despite it being past closing. His patience and perfection makes my experience at Hair Philosophy extraordinary every time. I HIGHLY recommend AJ—it’s always a good time with him! The conversations are never boring either:) I have left the salon every time feeling confident, as he tailors and formulated a look unique to you.

I have been getting hair cut at there for years, I had an overall good experience with JayChao. But this time, they didn’t inform me in advance that Jay is not there. After I arrived, assigned me another stylist and I am not satisfy with the final outcome.

To preface, I’ve been going to this place for years (with various ppl) for haircuts and it was always a good experience.

I just got my hair dyed with Jack and it turned out really well! He was super precise, attentive and gave me a ton of good recommendations during the appointment as well as before.

Overall would definitely recommend this salon and Jack for your hair color needs!

Beautiful & clean salon. I got my haircut with Carson and he is the best. He really listens to what you want and also suggests how to cut based on how you usually style your hair. Carson is meticulous in how he cuts hair and checks in on me to see what I think while cutting my hair so I can make adjustments. I would highly recommend getting a cut by Carson. He gave me nice layers that are blended well and still kept volume at the roots!

I had a wonderful experience at Hair Philosophy. This was my first visit and I had my hair cut, foilayaged, and styled by Jack (instagram handle @coloringbyjack). He was very receptive to my requests and did an amazing job. His assistant Kayden was extremely attentive and made sure every part of the process went smoothly.

I've been following Jack on Instagram for a while admiring his work and I finally set up an appointment with him recently. Everything went smoothly from booking the appointment to seeing the finished result. He stays in touch before the appointment day and even after - exceptional service! We did a consult through texting and photos which was great for me since I don't live in NYC anymore and it allowed us to quickly begin service while I was there. The salon took COVID precautions very seriously (temperature checks, masks, hand sanitizer) despite NYC relaxing on restrictions which I greatly appreciated. Everyone was welcoming and warm.

Jack's professionalism and care with my hair was outstanding! It was detailed work - working on small strands of hair, layer by layer carefully. My appointment actually extended past the closing time of the store (we were both the last people to leave), but he never rushed and even offered to take pictures/videos of my finished hair when straight and styled in beachy waves so I can see how it looked both ways.

I highly recommend this salon and Jack! I know I'll be looking forward to my next visit!

I had a great experience with Carson! He’s very easy going and articulated every step of the process. He gave me plenty of tips on keeping my hair healthy and how to maintain the new hair color. I love my new hair, it’s very natural but has beautiful dimensions to keep it interesting.

WOW. I can’t say enough good things about Hair Philosophy. The staff are so professional and attentive and kind. Huge shoutout to my stylist AJ. I was so nervous about getting balayage done for the first time. AJ talked with me at length to figure out exactly what I wanted, what sort of vibe I was going for. He was patient with my questions… I felt like I was getting a medical consultation, he was that thorough and attentive. He custom tailored the balayage treatment to me — my hair is unique in that it is very fine with a lot of baby hairs, and he knew exactly what it needed. I’m glad he knew what sort of “entry level” balayage I would be comfortable with. I’m glad he swayed me away from making the colors too subtle. It turned out just right. Thanks to AJ’s professional expertise and attention, my hair turned out better than I hoped. I knew I was in good hands. I’m definitely asking for AJ next time I return!

HIGHLY recommend getting your hair done at this hair salon, specifically from Carson! I’ve been getting my balayage done from Carson for the past three years and he’s done a phenomenal job every time! He is so professional, extremely detail-oriented, and gives you exactly what you ask for. He walks you through the entire process and tells you exactly what he’s doing each step of the way. I’ve gotten my hair color done by so many stylists and salons all over Manhattan for the past ten years and Carson is literally the best. I will never go to anyone else! Thank you, Carson!
