Beautiful library. Plenty of rooms to reserve for community events. Helpful and polite staff. My only complaint is the defunct coffee machine that keeps robbing people of money (let’s get another one please!)

The renovation is fantastic! Great place to spend time with your family or by yourself with a good book.

Beautiful library with friendly librarians and clerks. Many programs such exercise classes, food classes, reading groups. Many resources to use such as Ancestry, job searching and homework help. Museum passes for purchase or free downloads. Rooms to reserve for various programs one may need a room for.

Quiet please… there isn’t one spot for anyone who wants to focus and study.almost every coffee place is significantly quieter, and now I need to find a different library.

This new library building is an absolute dud all around. Ordered a previous best seller book for a pick up that the library site said they have on hand and went there the next day to pick it up, and they said it was being transferred in from another library. Upon further questioning they said they could not find it so they ordered it from another library but failed to tell me that. Useless as I was going away the following day and wasted a trip there. I told them to cancel the transfer, yet while I was away I got an email saying my book arrived! And on my last visit on a rainy day, the closest spots were electric car charging only-Of course I only saw that after I initially pulled in, and after parking farther away I watched other cars do the exact same thing! If it is not being used, why not let anyone park there, especially on a rainy day? When I went inside to read 2 recent newspapers, they only had 1. I asked why and they said that Melville is where you should go for newspapers and magazines as that is not this branch's focus. I guess books and newspapers are not what this library focuses on.

A nightmare dressed as a daydream. They spent thousands of dollars to complete an absolute demolition and reconstruction of this place just for there to be no areas for quiet study and not enough shelving for their movies. I asked about the DVDs and I was told that the Melville branch has all the DVDs now… why should we have to hike all the way down there when this branch is here for a reason?

Seems like they focused too much attention on making it look good and not enough on actually having space for people to sit, rooms for study, and shelving for the basic necessities.

Loud, cold, confusing space, without a study room. All the seating is uncomfortable so if you want to sit quietly and read or study, good luck.

This is a newly made huge library with modern facilities and a lot of spaces, meeting rooms, lecture room and nice restrooms. Unfortunately there is no individual quiet study rooms and that's the reason for one star. Even they offered a quiet study room on their previous building. But after remaking they completely went backward. We were hoping that there must be some quiet study rooms as they are constructing a new building with modern facilities. After the end of school time during 1: 00 PM to 3: 30 PM this library is a marketplace with lot of hustles and bustles. So if anyone wants to prepare for exams will not able to focus at all during this time period. All the libraries (Syosset, South Huntington, Commack, Plainview-old bethpage) nearby offer Quiet study rooms. So it is unfortunate that as a Half hollow hills school district resident we have to go to other libraries to avail this quiet study room facilities. Moreover it doesn't make any sense. With a new modern building this library is completely going backward. Hopefully the director will understand our concern.

The new library is large, but there are not a lot of tables and chairs. I visited there on 3 separate afternoons. It has been extremely loud and not a good place for studying. I asked the librarian at the front desk if I can use a study room, and he rudely responded that "we don't have study rooms, but we do have community rooms. " I was then informed that the empty and quiet "community rooms" (that had all the lights and TVs on) were only for organizational use with reservations in advance. The library does not offer a quiet study area, so every area is loud. When I asked for a quiet place to study, they recommenced that I try the South Huntington Library. I did reach out to the library via the "contact us" page on the website, and I have not heard back. I think the library should dedicate at least one room for quiet study. After all, it is a library. As an HHH resident, I was disappointed that the librarians told me to go somewhere else and that they do not maintain a library that accommodates all visitors.

Such helpful librarians doing great work during the temporary relocation while the Dix Hills Branch is rebuilt. Thank you!
