Hallowell Center NYC reviews
6They don't even take kids whom they deem difficult. How can you be successful when you don't take kids with adhd. Seems the entire program is really set up to get mostly normal kids moving along and claiming success. Be prepared to get denied treatment if you actually have adhd issues.
I would not recommend going to this center. Beyond unprofessional behavior from therapists. Violation of HIPPA.
I had a horrible experience here! They violated HIPAA and withheld my records from me for 9 months.the adhd assessment was paltry and in-comprehensive and the psychiatrist seemed uninformed about commonly co-occurring conditions.they also treated across state lines and didn’t inform me about the mandate to travel to new york for a prescription appointment.i would discourage people from going here.
I am saddened to report that the Hallowell center follows sketchy billing practices. Beware - do not give them your card information! They do not take insurance and they will require you to provide a credit card authorization form before your appointment. They will charge you for half the appointment cost several days before your appointment and if you cancel your appointment, (whether it is on time or not) they will refuse to refund the charge. Also, there is no front desk, the only phone number provided is a voicemail box, so good luck trying to clear any billing error or get a refund. Most practices send you a bill after seeing the doctor, not the Hallowell center. Note: an initial consultation costs $1300 and no - that is not an extra zero at the end. There are many excellent providers that are part of hospital groups or doctor practices that can provide excellent care, this is extra stress no one needs.
I've been a client of the Hallowell Center for the past year. As a 51yo man, I am so thankful after years of being misdiagnosed with depression and anxiety, to finally have an accurate diagnosis of ADHD inattentive type. Dr. Hallowell and his team are fantastic and very caring. I'm finally able to get the most out of my life thanks to these folks. I wholeheartedly recommend the Hallowell Center.
This is probably the second or third review I've ever written in my life, but as someone who's been struggling to find proper ADD treatment in NYC I feel the need to offer this feedback to other prospective patients.
If I could give these guys 0 stars I would. The Hallowell Center was one of 3 clinics suggested to me by my former psychiatrist at ADHD Boston who was lovely and evaluated me 5 years ago when I was 19.
I initially had a great phone call with a woman named Jill Haber who seemed very helpful and knowledgable, I was convinced they'd be able to give me the help I was looking for. I told Jill I had to review my insurance options and I'd call back in a day or two to lock down an appointment and she sent me a follow up email.
3 calls and 4 emails later, Jill has yet to get back to me about scheduling an appointment after telling her that I wouldn't be interested in paying the $1,300 to be evaluated considering I'd just gone through 6 hours of testing 5 years ago. I tried contacting the front desk to speak to someone else but they told me she is the one handling all new patience and she would call me back. Haven't heard anything from anyone in about a week.
The whole situation is so bizarre, I can only assume they're just interested in getting that $1,300 off people which is disgusting and shady. It's a shame, I would've paid top dollar for ongoing treatment I just didn't need to be re-evaluated so soon. Shocking and sad, I'll be informing ADHD Boston so they don't send any other patients their way.
