Best haircut of my life! Kamie not only gave me a great cut but took the time to teach me about how to get defined, fizz-free waves. I'll be back!

Martha Ellen has been cutting my curly hair now for 15 years. Every time I try someone else I am not happy. I drive 60-90 minutes to see her, and it is worth it. I was there when Head Chop opened, and it's only gotten better and better. I love the quirkiness of it.

Best haircuts for curly hair. I suffered from COVID related hairloss and used to have long luscious curls that became sparse and sad. My hair was falling out in clumps. I reached out to Martha Ellen who treated me with so much warmth and kindness and understanding. She saw me for a consultation first and then had me back for a haircut - I wanted to cut it super short for the first time in my life and I was super nervous.

Suffice to say, it was the best hair cutting experience I've ever had. She took so much time and care to cut every single curl, check in with me about length, and set my hair so it felt full and not scanty for the first time in ages. I walked out feeling so confident and happy with my hair after being so devastated by it for so long. And not only that, she gave me so many tips on how to encourage re-growth, vitamins to take that worked for her other customers. I could cry for how happy it made me. She's a really wonderful human and really so talented. It was also my most expensive haircut, but worth every penny. I'll never go anywhere else.

I’ve had my haircut at headchop in the past and had a great experience with a stylist who is unfortunately not there anymore given some serious mistreatment of people of color at this salon. Headchop is not only operating illegally at their location- they have predatory policies toward employee commissions and a recorded history of stealing ideas from their Black employees and reneging on promises of equity. Do not support this business.

I had an amazing experience at Headchop! First time visiting and over a year since my last haircut, I booked an appointment with Stephanie and she made me feel so comfortable and heard. I have had dry cuts before and only do them now. Stephanie asked amazing questions to help understand what I wears hoping for and offered me options that I was excited to try - in shape and in products. I’m so happy and will definitely be back soon.

I used to get haircuts here by maggie dwyer, I no longer live in NY and honestly she’s the thing I miss the most of the city. I’ve gone to so many other haircut places since then and I always look f*cked up after man

Not to be dramatic but Maggie might’ve saved my (hair) life with tips. My curly/wavy hair thanks you, MVP!

On the expensive side for a haircut, but worth every penny! Especially if you have curly hair. I have fine 3b curls, and headchop has been cutting my hair for about a year. Each pixie cut somehow manages to look fresh and different, and they use natural products which I love.

Updated to inform that Jackie moved and is no longer at this salon.

My first experience at Headchop was a good one. The salon is located in a cozy nook, at the garden level. The space itself is unique, with a homey, eclectic vibe. When I moved to NYC from Chicago this past summer, I knew that I would need to find a great colorist. I had been seeing a colorist for a few years in Chicago and he recommended Jackie. Jackie has colored, cut and styled my hair on two occasions. She gave me two different shades of warm, vibrant brown and I was happy both times! Jackie is great at her craft, highly knowledgeable and skilled at both color and cut. She will go the extra mile for you to feel 100% happy with your hair. This is very important to me, because sometimes, color may not come out as you hoped. The last colorist I was seeing, never got back to me when I let her know that the color didn't take on my hair, only the roots. Sadly, I walked around with two different colors and it caused me to not return to that salon. I don't have to worry about this with Jackie because I know she would feel bad if I didn't like my hair. Jackie is friendly, down to earth and personable. She definitely makes you feel like you're speaking to a friend you've known for quite some time, not just a random customer sitting down in her chair. Totally recommend Jackie!

I had such a wonderful experience at Headchop! The atmosphere is really fun and the staff were all very friendly. Maggie gave me a really awesome haircut. She was so knowledgeable and really took her time to give me the best cut possible. I had a really enjoyable time talking with her as well. If you're in the New York area and have curly hair, I doubt there's a better place to go!
