We've had great experiences so far with this vet. We have a difficult dog with many needs, and they've been very accommodating and have provided really thorough care. We've particularly appreciated the help and care we've gotten from the front office staff, Sol, and Dr. Lang - they're great!

I pass at least five other vets on my way to Park Slope - Heart of Chelsea and it is *always* worth the travel. Dr. Torchia and Dr. Gaylord are so knowledgable, helpful, generous with their time and gentle with my nervous rescue. I am so grateful to have found this place four years ago. I have ocassionally had to go other places on weekends, when traveling or for emergencies, and they *do not* measure up. The huge chains with the instagrammable/pinterest waiting rooms DO NOT deliver the same level of care and service to dogs or owners. (And they often charge more for less.) It's important to establish a relationship with a vet who will maintain detailed records on your pet and get to know them and their health over time - and Dr. Torchia and Dr. Gaylord will do that!

I really miss Gaylord. This clinic used to be amazing. But it was sold recently, and I realize it's time to find a new clinic for my pets. The new owners provide almost no information over the phone (if they answer). And they use sales techniques to pressure you into expensive optional treatments. I used to be able to get an honest assessment of my pets' needs, and staff would educate me about options. I don't get that service any more.

I have been going to this practice for 3 years since my dog was a pup. Please be aware that this is no longer North Slope. It has been taken over by a Manhattan practice. I do not appreciate that the office was not transparent about this when I made the appointment. It was only when I asked at the end of my visit, that the office informed me that Dr. Gaylord retired.
The care of my pet was good. However, there is a different style of treatment options and fees. Previously I was not charged separately to have my dogs ears cleaned (infection was reason for my visit). I am not sure if I will remain patient.
I wish Dr. Gaylord informed as to the big change.

Dr. Andrew Torchia is the best. He explains everything very well, answers all your questions and make sure you feel confident about what he is doing with your pet. My 13 year-old cat had her teeth cleaned and 2 extractions and came out great. He also kept me updated and let me know when to pick her up. He really instilled tremendous confidence in his skills and advice. I sure hope he keeps working there.

I just started taking my new adopted dog there. And I really love the care he’s been receiving! I highly recommend it!

Disappointing experience after disappointing experience here. The only reason I’ve continued to patron this place is because of proximity, but no longer.

This vet is incredibly unorganized, notoriously difficult to get a hold of, and trying to get every dollar out of you they can. Their prices feel quite high compared to other vets in the area I’ve called around to, and they seem to always be suggesting expensive procedures that it turns out my cat doesn’t really need.

Customer service leaves a lot to be desired. For 3.5 years they have continued to misgender my cat. How hard could it be to correct it in their system? I’ve had to wait excessively for every appointment, including an hour wait when I was the first appointment of the day!

One time when my cat was very sick, we’d gotten all the way back home from the visit when they called and said come back—we forgot to give him subcutaneous fluids, whoops.

All of the doctors are nice, but the general inefficiencies, high prices and long wait times are forcing me elsewhere.

I've had three cats as patients to this clinic in the past 30-years. Under 3-different doctors. Spyro and Chance have gone to Pet Heaven and Mixer is turning 5-yrs old. Thus far NSV has been on point with my pets and with this said, I will continue to value their services. Happy Holidays!

They're always very nice to my cat. Been going for a few years. Good bedside manner. Have a small supply of prescription food in there for purchase as well

My neighborhood vet and boy am I glad it is. I’d travel from anywhere in the five boros though if I had to, which speaks for itself.

BEWARE - NOW CORPORATE OWNED BY SUVETO VETERINARY OUT OF TEXAS.

I had been a loyal customer for YEARS, almost a decade. I swore by this vet, loved all the employees & never had an issue. I took my service dog here and the cats I had since I was a teenager. Dr. Gaylord was amazing and I never had an issue. But….

This past time, I noticed many changes, including the fact that the brand new doctor was pushing for extremely expensive tests for minor things. Or things that had previously been managed. To the extreme. It was so noticeable that as soon as I hung up with him I checked if a corporate buyout had happened. It did.

Aside from that, the new vet techs seemed extremely unhappy to be there. Like seriously something was wrong. This company has many complaints from employees regarding unfair treatment. It shows in how they treat the animals and people. They are not paid enough to care to do a good job.

This place is now awful. Honestly I am devastated that our friendly neighborhood vet became just another greedy corporation squeezing money out of people by exploiting their love for their pets. Many of these corporations also have quotas for the number of tests and procedures vets need to schedule, so even if your pet doesn’t need it, or it’s invasive stressful and bad for them, they will still push it, because they have to.

To dr McNulty, you are terrible at subtlety and you should be ashamed of yourself.

They truly want what is best for the health your pet — they have taken such great care of our dog Bella through her acid reflux problems and UTIs. They give you care options with prices in advance and are diligent about follow up calls and emails. I am so grateful for the care they provide, especially during the pandemic when staffing issues are so challenging with people being out sick etc. ️ North Slope, Dr. Gaylord, Dr. Lazarus, and the support staff so much

My cat is a patient here and I had to bring her to VERG emergency a few nights ago which will be a separate review. I was left with a lot of concerns and questions that VERG should have answered but was not getting back to me. Instead, Dr. Gaylord at North Slope kindly called me and calmly reassured me and answered all of my questions about my baby’s medical emergency. This is the definition of going above and beyond. I’m so grateful to him for taking time to do that and for doing it so kindly. I wouldn’t take my cat for regular care anywhere else. These folks are wonderful. Thanks again, Dr. Gaylord, you’re a true gem.

Everyone is very helpful at this office. The vets are always willing to answer any questions. Yes, sometimes the phones are busy, yes it may take a week to get an appt. With the explosion of pandemic pets, I think we need to be understanding. I know this office has been undergoing some major changes, increasing staff and doctors and streamlining the online appt service and updating the website. The doctors are very kind to my pet. I find it’s best to book appt and ask for a callback from doctor…and cancel appt if needed.

My cat has been going to Dr. Gaylord for 3 years but I've truly had enough.

There were some questionable medical moments in there that I excused because at the end of the day, I thought the doctors were acting out of concern. Dr. Gaylord thought he heard a heart murmur in my cat last March. They had me bring my cat in again when a specialist was in town - a second visit and $700 later, we found out she was "just a little nervous" and there was absolutely no real medical concern. Fine.

What I don't excuse is that you literally can never get anyone on the phone and their office is horribly organized. Need a prescription refilled? Too bad - you (and Chewy!) will have one hell of a time reaching them. Need an appointment? Good luck!

During my recent visit ($425 for a basic panel of tests - wow), the receptionist was having issues and couldn't give me a receipt. She assured me it would be e-mailed to me in the coming days. Three weeks later, I can't get anyone on the phone (because when I say they never answer, I mean they LITERALLY never answer the phone), they don't reply to e-mails, and I'm stuck with a giant bill I can't submit to insurance.

They make it impossible to be a patient here while taking hundreds of your dollars. Having a chronically sick pet is stressful enough without your vet being entirely unreachable. If you are someone who has a pet that needs regular care, I would strongly ask that you reconsider - it is not worth the absolute nightmare to deal with the office staff.

My cat has been a patient with North Slope for about two years now, and I was flabbergasted when their phones were completely off with no active voicemail for at least a week starting Feb 8th. All I needed was a simple refill, and I ended up having to take off work and spend money taking my senior, chronically ill cat to a different vet in order to get an entirely new prescription. When I finally got ahold of North Slope’s receptionist the following week (after calling almost every day to see if the phones were finally connected again), all she said was: “yeah, we’re been having trouble with our phones. ” This doesn’t explain why my emails weren’t answered, or why they couldn’t update their Facebook, Twitter or website homepage to let patients know there was an issue. I’ll be changing practices.

I bring my 1.5 year old dog to this vet and love it! It is very clear that they care so much about the animals. Both times I've gone I've had an appointment, there was no wait, and I was in and out within 30 minutes. The doctors are very friendly and answered all of the questions I had. My dog is very sensitive to food allergies and they helped me identify the issue and get him on the right food without expensive allergy testing. Very happy we have this vet in the neighborhood!

They're great. Careful and take great care of our dog (small 10 pound poodle mix). They are our primary vet and also performed her spay surgery which she is currently recovering from quite well. Love Dr. Tan and the team

I'm a first time client. The vet is not too close to my place so I don't want to go there and be told to go back and wait for the next available appointment. I called several times throughout the week. Not sure the reason but the phone never went through and always went to a voice mailbox. I don't even know whether they're still open.
