Heidelberg Restaurant reviews
16Excellent food, beer, service, and aymosphere. I've been here twice and will definitely be coming back.
We had an amazing New Years day dinner. The Pork shank and sausage were fantastic. Great old school atmosphere with awesome food and great drinks.
Almost every time we are in NYC we have to go here. Great bier food and atmosphere. PROST!
This place is classic New York from the days that this neighborhood was home to many German immigrants. Traditional German cuisine never disappoints here, and they have a great beer variety too. Service is always friendly. This is not an inexpensive restaurant, but it is worth it from time to time.
I recommend the Jägerschnitzel, and the Black Forest cake, but everything is delicious here.
Stop by Schaller and Weber next door for some great treats to take home afterwards.
We wanted to go out for a delicious German meal. The food tasted very good, portion size was obviously very expensive. The food was served quickly. The staff did their job.
No longer run by previous owners.
Weinerschnitzel was delicious. Pretzel was good not special - not enough salt and a little hard - but the mustard and cheese sauce (this is extra) were tasty. Great ambiance and nice service. Will be back!
This was the best schnitzel I have ever had and I’ve been to Germany. Went here with a German guy and even he was impressed
As a business owner, I've never given a poor review, until now. I echo all the comments below. The 1 star ratings are truly accurate. I will not waste your time with a long winded review. This place is an unmitigated disaster through and through. I've also never back charged a meal in my life, also, until now. Truly inedible.
I wish the owner would just sell this place to someone who would restore quality and respect to this once solid restaurant. Unfortunately, the damage has most likely been done.
Heidelberg lived up to expectations and was exactly what I wanted. A very warm, holiday vibe inside with decorations and great assortment of beers. The sausage trip was delicious along with the Jagershnitzel. Will definitely be back!
My only suggestion is the waiter never came back or checked on our water. Otherwise great service!
As a German living in America I come here once in a while for some authentic German food and I'm never disappointed.
I had a good time. Good beer, good goulash. But the potato dumplings were atrocious. Clearly not freshly made
We enjoyed this place for three years, but tonight's service was disappointing.
We always tip 20%, but we were surprised that the default tip had been increased to 25%. The waiter rushed us, not letting us finish our drinks after dinner, even though tables were available.
Really unhappy with the service and wouldn't like to return to this restaurant again.
My husband and I have lived in the neighborhood for awhile now and we always walk by here and have wanted to try it for some time now and we were really looking forward to it because it's always decorated so nicely on the outside! We walked in tonight and were seated at a table. Nobody came over to greet us. Time went by, nothing. 10 MINUTES go by and still no water! Nobody came and said hi how are you, nothing. I am sitting there watching 3 servers all standing around EATING THEIR DINNER AND SHOOTING THE SH*T AND IGNORING THE WHOLE DINING ROOM. That has to be the worst look possible. The table next to us was waiting to pay and leave too! And the other table next to us was also desperate to order! There is nothing more frustrating than showing up to a restaurant hungry and thirsty and watching your server purposefully ignore you and eat their food in front of you when all you want is some damn water. You don't stand there in front of your tables that are all waiting to order/eat/pay! We watched our server eat and laugh and have a merry time for 12 minutes before he decided to slowly walk over and when he arrived he was arrogant and rude. We ordered 1 app and left because it was so unbelievable. We shouldnt even have ordered an app. I've never seen anything so unprofessional in my life. Truly disgusting and will not be back or reccomending this place to anyone. Disgraceful.
Authentic German atmosphere and great selection of beers and German food, right at home on the UES.
The food quality is ok but the waiting time is way too long. Also, the waitor in here is very disrespectable and very impolite. The waitor did not give us enough plates, stop me from ordering prosecco, and very rude when I am trying to ask when our food can be ready. One of the most horrible exprience I have ever had.
The schnitzel was okay - average, the kind you get at any snack bar in Germany. The fried potatoes were not really cooked and poorly seasoned. The portion of potatoes and side dishes was also quite small. The waiter was initially quite friendly, but when he apparently wasn't happy with his tip, he became extremely unfriendly. I've really never experienced anything like that. When we handed over the tip, we even said that we were students and therefore couldn't afford more tips and yet he gave it zero value. Service was otherwise quite slow. We had to wait 45 minutes for a table at 5 p.m. Even though there were still tables available in the restaurant. We also waited a long time for the food.
