Hewison Aviation, Selkirk NY

Lesson was terrific, learned a bunch I did not know about the hoops a pilot has to jump through to make sure the aircraft is airworthy. Instructor was patient, friendly, and knew his stuff and made sure I was comfortable at all times. I wish the flying time had been a little longer, but overall a great experience.

Learning to fly was a dream of mine since I was 5 years old lying in the driveway watching planes come in to land at the airport in Montreal. From the moment Chris took me for my discovery flight until my private pilot check ride I felt supported by staff and fellow students at Hewison. As a woman it can be intimidating to get into aviation as there are so few us but I didn’t feel like it was an issue at all. My instructor Brad was awesome and treated me like everyone else. I will always be grateful to this group of people who helped me realize my dream. If you are thinking about getting your private pilot license I highly recommend Hewison Aviation.

I'm really sad to report that my significant other was unable to use his flight lesson that he received last Christmas. I'm partially at fault - I realized a day before the 6 month expiration date that I needed to use it. I contacted Maura via email on 6/21 with no reply, a text on 6/22 with a reply on 6/24 stating she would get back to me with available dates for the flight lesson. Never heard back and I basically gave up. I feel bad to give a local business a bad review but the lack of communication was unfortunate and now the gift certificate is completely unusable.

New to this airport & area. Utilized services for a BFR in my own aircraft. Met several staff IPs; all welcoming & friendly. Classroom environment was clean and well equipped. Weather postponed the flying portion of the review multiple times over multiple weeks. My IP kept me well informed and up to date with good communications. Nice Folks. Thanks all.

I started my journey as a pilot in the early 2000's and stopped and started many times due to life events as many do. In 2019 i started again with Hewison Aviation for 2 reasons, they fly Pipers which are low wings and i personally think they are cooler looking, they were Part 61 school which gave me flexibility to include some of the training from previous years. They have a fleet of very well maintained airplanes, top rated instructors that are very professional and human and they really want to push you to succeed. Thanks to Hewison Aviation, i am hours away from a life long dream. I highly recommend Hewison Aviation and anyone considering earning a pilots license, a new rating, or just a introductory flight, give them a look. You will not be disappointed. I can't say enough good things about this aviation school. I am particularly impressed by the caliber of their certified flight instructors. As a 63-year-old newbie to aviation, I can honestly say that these folks make it easy for an old dog to learn new tricks! I have every confidence that when I'm finished I will be a competent and responsible pilot, always eager to hone this wonderful new skill.

Hewison Aviation is an excellent business to go to if one is interested in learning how to fly. The instructors are nice, clearly communicate what to do while in the air, and they tell you what to expect while on the ground before the lesson begins. The aircraft themselves are very well maintained with standard instrumentation and handle appropriately in the air. If you have time and are interested, go ahead and schedule an intro flight. Knowledgeable and friendly flight school. Great for beginners just starting to fly, all the way up to pilots working on their Commercial and Flight Instructor Certificates. I am currently working with them toward my Certified Flight Instructor Certificate and I could not be happier with my choice of school.
