It was our 2nd stay at HGU. We loved this stay as much as our 1st one which was before the pandemic. The hotel is really well located, quiet and very stylish. We could not thank enough Chris, Christina and Samantha at the front desk who are all so nice. We always felt super welcome every time we saw them. Thank you for the incredible service.

I really enjoyed my experience staying at HGU! I believe it is in a great location, nearby Bryant Park. The room was spacious. There was a desk, a living room area and the room with a walk in closet and bathroom. The closet included an umbrella which was perfect as it was a cold and rainy day. Downstairs we tried out the American Bistro Restaurant and the expresso martini was delicious!

Perfectly fine Murray Hill hotel. The rooms are very small, but clean. The lobby is the most stylish place in the joint. Decent price.

I contemplated writing this review because I have never given a bad review. Given my decision was purely driven by the 4 star review, 4 star hotel rating, and the nice photos, I thought it would be helpful to let other know that none of the three met my expectations. Also, 2 stars is generous.

Pros:
- great location, walking distance to many places in midtown
- partially upgraded (the lobby is small but nice-ish while the elevator and hallways are very dingy)

Cons:
- the room.there was 0 natural light and there is a huge pipe outside of the window. Wish I saw the other review with the same complaint before I booked. The rug in the room is filthy. Unfortunately it was a busy weekend and they did not allow me to get an upgrade (for a fee). Also, there is a generator that is running non-stop so if you’re a light sleep, avoid.
- partially upgraded (a pro and a con). The hallways and elevator, and even parts of the room feels very dated. Hard to believe this is a 4 star hotel that positions itself as a boutique luxury.
- expensive for what it’s worth - we booked the standard room for $400 a night and have stayed in better hotels in midtown at this price tag.

For a last minute (literally) booking, this hotel was so convenient and beautiful.it was down the street from the hotel we originally were supposed to stay in, but we were rejected because of overbooking so we came here.check in and check out was very easy, and the room was so very clean and beautiful.loved the 2 mirrors in the bathroom!

TERRIBLE TERRIBLE hotel. Service and quality do not match the price. Rooms are unbelievably tiny, you can barely move inside. Its clear they took a dump of a building, slapped some paint on it, and called it a 4 star hotel. Additionally there is no security whatsoever. No bellman. No one at the front door. This means you need to figure out how to get your bags inside from the taxi by yourself. If you are checking in late at night.forget about it. You might as well be checking into a motel 6. For what they charge, you could have an actual hospitality experience anywhere else.

The hotel is very expensive for the level of service. We were greeted by an very unpleasant and unprofessional person.
Everything is dilapidated and there is a strong smell of mould in the whole hotel and the rooms.
Our room was tiny and not very clean, the window was on a wall. The carpet is completely stained and torn, there is mold in the bathroom.
The only positive point: the bed is comfortable.
We definitely don't recommend this hotel!

Overall stay at the hotel itself was fine. Evening staff and evening Front desk were below par. I booked my stay and was given my room with zero complaints. My room was then upgraded by an outside party (with my permission) this outside party repeatedly over and over spoke with the front desk employee Matthew. Matthew was given clear directions. Cancel the original reservation and book a new one. Under the outside party credit card. NOT mine. Mind you this outside party also told Matthew to switch the original reservation to the outside credit card. NONE of which were ever done. The ENTIRE stay was placed under MY card. When told numerous times over and over which card to use they continued to get this wrong. But of course had ZERO issues canceling a room and booking another room. Making sure to get their business and money. Overall this stay was pleasant, upon checking out the morning front desk staff asks if I would like to place the room and tab under the master card on file. (I do not have a master card the outside party is the master card) where I say yes, well they NEVER used that card and used mine.up until the moment I am home and notice ALL charges are placed under my card.

Arrived at 10 AM. No early check ins. It’s 3: 40 and still waiting in the lobby for a room. Advertised check in time on their website is 3PM. Tiring and frustrating start to a quick weekend in the city and wasted half my day in here waiting. Front desk person tried to justify the delay by telling me she upgraded our room. What’s the point of an upgraded room if it downgrades your experience?

Finally get to the “upgraded” room and this bed is too tiny for two adults smh.

While all of the below is true, management did step in (as per their reply below) and address the issue exactly as they said. So I am changing this review to 4 stars.

STAY AWAY! They sold my room to someone else, didn't bother to tell me, and had me walking around the streets of New York after midnight looking for a hotel.

-

I booked a three night stay at HGU Hotel. When I got there, I was told that they had sold my room and that I would be spending tonight "at another hotel nearby".

(Apparently, they didn't think it was important to tell me about this in advance, despite my having paid for a reservation several days prior, and despite the rep admitting that they'd known this all day)

We went walking around looking for someone to help at this "other hotel" where I was supposed to stay for a night and then pack back up and come back to HGU.

I asked if there was any compensation for delaying my checkin for an hour while we sorted all of this out (again, after midnight) and for the hassle of having to unpack and then repack and go through checkin all over again the next day (assuming that they didn't decide to sell my room to someone else again), and the hotel employee said he would comp me the first night.

. Okay that sounds good, right? Except - get this:

HIS BIG "CONCESSION" FOR MY HASSLE WAS THAT HE WASN'T GOING TO CHARGE ME AT HIS HOTEL FOR A ROOM HE'D SOLD TO SOMEONE ELSE. I still had to pay for my room at another hotel. Are you serious? You can't be serious. He was serious.

So now it's nearly 1am, I have to be up in 5 hours, and I'm waiting to check into some random (and not very promising to look at) hotel. W$ () @$ YOU, HGU.

I have a lot of mixed feelings regarding this hotel. On one hand it’s situated in a privileged location, close to everything and in a great neighborhood. The decoration and rooms are just what you need for a NYC hotel though the ambience music is this early 90’s chill-out lounge type which makes you feel like you’re in some Buddha bar type place. The rooms seem to be clean buuuut one night a big cockroach entered our room. I know that this is nyc but that’s not what you expect in a 4 star hotel. Finally, the staff is super kind and attentive, but they are understaffed, specially in the restaurant. In conclusion: I would come back only if I get a really good deal.

Great location, but my room was subpar. It seems like rooms vary. Mine had no ironing board for ironing clothes, even when kindly asking for one last day. The room I stayed in only had one side table, so there was no nightstand for my partner. Body wash and shampoo empty. The rooms are a bit small with very little natural light.
