My dad works here. They had a job fair so I went. LIRR. Male dominated. They were hiring for conductor, block/track switcher, engineers, electrical engineers. They weren't taking resumes on site. It was just the head of each department describing what the job entails. A job description. They want you to make an account on their website and type in the key words they gave at the fair and upload your resume for the position you want. A lot of ppl showed up. The line was long downstairs.

Went for March 2022 LIRR Job Career Fair and literally it wasn't even that just a few people handing out the same QR code in my picture on cards. There was noone from a department to hand your resume to, there was no one from a department to give insight on the job positions they're hiring for. The 1 person I did speak with even said that they didn't expect this many people to show up which is crazy because many people are looking for work since the pandemic made a lot of people unemployed. This was a waste of time for the people they DID have there and for the everyday New Yorkers who took off work, or left work early to come to what they thought would be an opportunity for them to make a difference in the city they live in while supporting their families. No-one can say that noone wants to work because folks came out in droves today to try and improve their living situations and they were let down severely with noting to show for it but some extra money spent on transportation to get to this facility.

How you can Improve:

1. Actually show up for the community of New Yorkers looking for work and commit to these job opportunity events you post. If you're hosting a job fair have personel In place to accept resumes and portfolio submissions.

2. Have representatives from each work sector available to hand out information on the job postings that are open. Folks can apply online obviously but why hold an on location job fair if folks are not able to make face to face connection with recruiters?

3. Just don't hold them if you can't do steps 1 & 2 because it's a disservice to New Yorkers looking for work.
