Definitely spring for the tour. Jason knows his stuff upside and down and loves telling you all about it. You will get to see things that aren't in the main display, including the laser downstairs used to make the holograms. He's also had a lot of interesting encounters with some famous folk over the years (bonus: people who know something about recording music should ask him about what local joint he spent some time at.).
Covid put a dent in their business and now is the time to get them caught up. When I was there, they happened to be having a fundraiser to keep the doors open. Don't let this venerable, one-of-a-kind enterprise slip away! Every nerd and their kid should make it a point to stop by if they are in NYC and do their part to keep it going.

In fact, I betcha the good doctor is the ONLY artist to have created holograms of Andy Warhol, Ed Koch, and Isaac Asimov.
