Hudson River Expeditions reviews
14You ever find yourself up a river WITH a paddle? Shout out to the folks over at this kayak rental and tour joint. We kicked of LDW with a brisk ride down the Hudson before we explored for good eats. Highly recommended for day adventuring. Happy kayaking!
Another beautiful day of kayaking, this time on the Hudson River. Went out along the coast to a secluded beach. Skipped stones, ate snacks, and swam. The staff was ultra nice even though we’d arrived late for our rental. Even refunded us an hour per craft when we only used 2 of 3 hours. Really fun experience. Can’t wait to go back to explore the marshes.
Easy to rent kayaks to explore Cold Springs, reserve earlier in the day if you want to do the marsh because that takes 4 hours.
Amazing experience on a 4 hour kayaking trip through the marsh. Out tour guide / instructor, Ken, was knowledgeable about the area and an excellent kayaking guide. The tour was easy to do, however I would not recommend it in very hot (95F and above) weather.
Very nice and courteous staff, welcoming. Kayaks are well maintained, clean and very smooth process to get you on the water. Probably the smoothest kayak rental I’ve witnessed!
Plan on coming back:)
Really nice day trip from NYC to the Cold Spring location. HRE has nice facilities, really good guides and are really pleasant to deal with. Highly recommend.
Really enjoyed our time tandem-kayaking and stand up paddleboarding (first time on SUP). We arrived early for our booking and we were able to go out onto the water immediately after signing the waiver and getting life vests. We were given an explanation of our boundaries on the river and basically set off to enjoy the water! Appreciated that the shop has a locked room for belongings, a bathroom, and some supplies you might need for sale (waterproof bags, bug spray, sports drinks, hats, etc). I'd definitely come back!
One thing to note is that they only briefly ask "have you paddled before? " (I answered yes to kayak, no to SUP). Only a few tips were given for SUP, like where to stand on the board and how to hold the paddle. So if you're a complete newbie I'd recommend going for a class or something (think they offer some?) before just coming to rent. We consulted YouTube videos beforehand so felt pretty confident to just go for it ourselves.
Beautiful paddling location at Cold Spring in the cove and the marsh. Feels great getting out on the water.
Good quality, comfortable kayaks. Clear instructions about marsh access and safety. Slight delay in getting on the water because there were so many customers at the launch site but it was fine. Next time we will arrive more than ten minutes early.
Super fun kayaking. We rented 2 double kayaks and got all we need from the stuff including guidance on how to handle all. Went for 2 hours, the price was also great and we enjoyed a lot. We will definitely be back this summer, we loved it! Thank you!
Hudson River Expeditions is the best! I've taken my international college students on kayaking and paddle boarding day trips numerous times Now that we appear to round the corner of the pandemic, I look forward to revisiting Cold Spring and the great staff at Hudson River Expeditions who make every visit a safe and memorable occasion. Thank you Brian and staff.

On a such a hot day, 90F, it was so relaxing to be on the water! The tour was great, the guide very knowledgeable, fun and a real pro! We even stayed a bit longer to catch the waves! Awesome day, will definitely come back and highly recommend to all- all levels - from the very beginners to advanced.
Very helpful and knowledgable. They also seem to really care and know a lot about the area.
Excellent kayak outfitter and guide service. Brian sold me a Tempest 170 kayak in the midst of COVID-19 closures and it was a seamless experience. He was super helpful, has a beautiful shop and is very friendly/responsive. Looking forward to getting back up to Cold Spring to do some paddling with him on the Hudson in the future.
Wonderful spot. Must go if haven't been. Friendly staff. Well run business where you can count on having a good time.
