Jackrabbit Trail Head, Lake Placid NY

Hiked to haystack to McKenzie mountain.haystack was nice but i really didn't care for McKenzie.its just straight up and climbing, going around boulders and tree roots.not much of a view on top.some spots but pretty much the top is all tree covered and the hike down us just as hard as the hike up.this mountain is in my opinion more for experience or really experience hikers who climb fast and are like spider monkey's.would not recommend this trail to new beginners or family with children.it's a pretty tough Terrain.if you do it bring plenty of water and snacks with energy and protein because you're gonna need it! I was burned out before I even got to the top and really got tired on the way down.try to stop a lot too! And go early! Don't be stupid like me and go in the afternoon! I didn't get back to my car until 830pm the hike out is very very long! Seems like it will never end.pretty sure there is tons of posion ivy on these trails so try your best to avoid them! Good luck! I will never do this hike again! Lol

Street parking, then cross the street and the trail is right there. Street is a normal, paved one, often plowed. The snowbanks can get a bit high for street parking, but it doesn't stop most people. The trail requires xc skis or snowshoes but lots of people wear spikes when it's really packed down. The jackrabbit is pretty long, but this is well traveled as an easy way to summit haystack and/or McKenzie.

Worst part of the experience was people driving by giving me dirty looks.
