3A good, flat, easy hike. The trail is easy to follow and the payoff at the end is good. Our day there were tons of mosquitoes but that was expected
Unsure of how gorgeous the pond was as the army of mosquitos pushed us back about halfway through. Bring bug spray and keep your mouth closed.
This spot on McKenzie Pond Road is the best trailhead to use for the Jackrabbit trail east to Whiteface Club. However, there is space for only a handful of cars here. The trail has easy rolling hills through woods until McKenzie Pond (about 2 miles in), after which it's mostly a climb to the saddle between McKenzie Mountain and Haystack. The junction for trails to both those peaks is a bit further east. The descent to Whiteface Club is gentle to mile 5.5. For XC skiers west to east on this trail section offers more climbing and gentler downhills. East to west, logically, is the opposite.
