Joanne Trattoria reviews
19Truth be told I most have ordered wrong. I'm all for Lady GAGA and supporting the family's endeavors in any way possible - but Italians should get penne w/ white clam sauce right. Ambiance cozy. Service fine. And of course the namesake which is near and dear to the owner's heart - Joanne's. His sister who died of Lupus.
I wanted to like this place. I could see the homey (calling sauce gravy) yet modern (vegan options) vibe they were going for. I was excited to finally check it out, not because of it's owned by Lady Gaga's parents, but because Lady Gaga's parents are Italian-Americans from New Jersey and this was a life's dream for them, and there were online descriptions of homemade pasta and it sounded like ye olde time Italian food and I was in. But, the food was not very good. My partner's pasta plate was small and looked and tasted meh or by his description: "I've had frozen that tasted fresher. " Just lacking in flavor. I got a vegan dish which was good, but I've had better vegan options at other similar type restaurants - plus and this is an example - it was a vegan parmagiana, but it didn't come with pasta. Yeah, I know the joke - the food was lousy and such small portions - but in this case it was kind of true. No bread offered. No offer of a soup or salad with the pasta dish. Wine by the glass started at a fairly exorbitant price with no less expensive house wine option. We split a dessert which was quite good, but overall not only was the food a disappointment, but the bill was much higher - even for what I'm sure is an expensive to rent location - than other similar home-stayle Italian restaurants in Manhattan, making this kind of a conveniently located (near Lincoln Center and other attractions) tourist trap.
In the heart of this crazy city, there's this Italian joint, and get this, it's run by Lady Gaga's kin. Now, that's not the draw - not really. It's more about the place itself.
Picture a cozy fireplace, the kind that's seen more secrets and silent toasts than any of us have seen sunrises. It's a two-faced beast, this fireplace, open on both sides. You can huddle up close in the dining room, feeling the warmth seep into your bones, or lounge out back on the patio. And when the world turns cold, they crank up the heat out there, make it feel like an Italian summer night even
Food big fat 0!
Not recommended and certainly do not order carbonara.
Shame on our money! Definitely don't go there!
Waist of my time money!
This restaurant was not good. I’m a huge Gaga fan, but I’m not gonna give this a good review because of that… like some others. To start off, my best friend and I were the first people to be sat in the resultant and no one came up to our table for about 15 minutes. The food tasted like nothing. I got the pasta in white wine sauce with clams. It had no flavoring whatsoever. The food was 100% overpriced. For one entree and ginger ale (with free refills) with tip, my bill was around $35. It was too expensive for the portion size.
The bathroom so tiny the door barely opened. They didn’t even have the toilet paper connected to the wall, but rather free standing on a rack. I had to push my foot against the door to keep it shut.
Also, the atmosphere was not the best because of how small the restaurant was. My chair was backed into a booth, so I had to be squished and couldn’t move my seat. And when more people came in, it got really loud.
However, our waitress very nice and attentive. She had pretty nails, and told us she’d met Gaga when we asked her.
Nice place to have a nice dinner, pasta was sooo good that we kept making noises of pleasure while eating. Service was nice, girls on the front and bar were very polite and cute
The only thing was that a restaurant is very small and we waited for our check for a quite long time.
Absolutely love this place! One of our favorites on the upper west side. Warm, cozy atmosphere and great food!
I loved everything about Joanne Trattoria.the french toast with fresh fruit is so delicious! I loved!
Food was delicious, service was very disappointing. We were seated in a high traffic path. After 15 minutes of no acknowledgement we were about to leave. We asked a waitperson if anyone was ser ing our table and he said it was him. We were pretty much ignored throughout our dinner. Should have left.
You can't ca yourself a "Family" restaurant when you host weekly Drag Shows. Drag Shows are for adult venues only. You should be ashamed.
Disclaimer - I dined on a night they were short staffed due to a party that was happening.
That said - I found the food to be just okay. I got the spaghetti and meatballs - the sauce I could only describe as thin and watery. The meatballs also were very dry. Fat is flavor and nothing here had a great depth about it. Very acidic.
Also - a lot of the menus picture you’ll see on the account are OLD. 2 years ago the dish was $23. When I went… $30. Too much for spaghetti and 3 meatballs.
Music was also quite an odd selection and the chairs were not at all comfortable at the high tops (they sink in so much).
We used to love this restaurant but it fell short last evening.
I'm not sure what happened to this place, but this was our first visit back since before Covid & the food was certainly not worth the price of admission. Way over priced & fell short in flavor & quality.
Heartbreaking because we used to love coming here.
Third time eating here & every single time the food has been fantastic. Casual atmosphere, down to earth staff. I noticed there were some negative reviews (which REALLY surprised me) until I saw that those who penned the negative reviews were more interested in talking about the owner’s politics, a clear sign that not only have they never run a business of their own, but they have not yet mastered the ability to “separate personalities from principals”. Try the food, you won’t be disappointed.
A friend of mine suggested we try this restaurant because it's owned by Lady Gaga's parents. So, I guess I expected a more flavorful food, a little more sophisticated and impressive restaurant. Our server was new, but she was very knowledgeable & attentive.
Overpriced I can make better food at home with one arm behind my back. Over hyped because some famous person who thinks they are better then everyone has a part in it I guess? Also weird sexual stuff. It's supposed to be a nice Italian place I would rather go to olive garden
Let me start by saying I am a huge Lady Gaga fan so by default it will get 5 stars. Ok, that's out of the way. I really enjoyed the lamb. It was very tender and had delicious flavoring. The cheesecake was also tasty and it was so good with the fruit topping. Expect to get a lot of food on your plate. I left very full and well fed. The outside patio looked very nice but it was far too cold to enjoy this area on the day of our visit. If you look about you will see bits of Gaga scattered about so it is a must-see for fans. I asked my boyfriend (the Birthday boy) how he liked his spaghetti and he said he loved it, so I'll give the food 5 stars.
Great atmosphere. However, food was severely lacking. Vegan meatballs arrived FROZEN, riceballs were gummy and bland, and the Mojito didn't seem to have any sugar in it. First time visitors and was excited to be seated as the atmosphere was inviting and cozy (got the corner booth with fireplace) but the food experience was underwhelming and surprisingly bland.
We loved this restaurant! The food was great, and we loved getting to meet Lady Gaga's dad, Joe. He is the owner and he was so nice. My favorite was the bruschetta and the chicken Alfredo. Definitely check them out if you're in NYC!
Wonderful atmosphere and service, we had a group of 8 and they were very accommodating we had the meatball volcano and bruschetta for an appetizer and it was great and they have a fantastic chicken Parmesan that we are all still thinking about! We were greeted by the owner and that just doesn’t happen a lot anymore, so that was very very special.
