It cost me $15 for a sesame chicken combination plate. It’s $16 for a single regular order of sesame chicken. The chicken is also dark meat so not very good quality. Also there’s nowhere to sit and no bathroom.

Final thing: I didn’t like how the card machine prompts you TWICE to leave tip.

After you put your card in:

Machine literally says this. Would avoid and don’t plan on returning for the chicken quality alone.

Chinese food. Typical fare. The outstanding thing is here, is BONE IN SPARE RIBS. Just yummy. If u enjoy a good egroll, tell Steve to make it a bit well done and you'll bite in to the hottest, crispiest, tastiest egroll EVER! (Get the home made duck sauce to dip it in for an additional 50 cents.) Sometimes they won't charge you for it, and sometimes they will. Last thing. Do not leave a tip. The owners keep it for themselves! (Only took me 20 years to figure that out.)

Decent food but extremely rude on the phone. Wasn’t even done ordering yet and he said “that’s it, okay bye” and had a tone from the moment he answered the phone. **UPDATE- was even more rude when i picked up.i was honestly shocked by how poorly we were treated for no reason.literally yelled at my boyfriend to put his card in the machine.i was disgusted.please avoid here at all costs.there’s a million other places much better. **

The food here tastes like a very depressed person made it. In technique they make some of the best food on the island, but I can tell certain things are premade when they shouldn't, that the vegetables have probably went through multiple defrosts, and that little care goes into selecting ingredients. For example I got the boneless ribs and it was literally 95% fat. I poured out liquid fat from 50% of the container and the pieces were all fat. It was like the equivalent of four sticks of butter of pure fat. I paid $10 for that.

It's such a shame.

This is my family's staple choice for Chinese food, it is fast, inexpensive, convenient and some items are done very well. These happen to be ones I frequently get, Gen Tso's, sesame chicken, egg rolls, egg foo young to name a few. Their combo specials are good value and I recommend anyone looking for a quick meal.

This is my go-to Chinese takeout. I've never had anything that I didn't like. The staff is friendly and the quality is excellent. I am addicted to their wonton soup.

The prices on their website menu show approximately 30% cheaper than the actual prices on their
in store printed menu.

Had a fantastic experience in this spot with my wife. The food comes out quick and the customer service is just good. Prices are fair.

Placed an order by phone to pick up because we discovered that if you order online through their website for an order pick up, they charge a silly convenience fee?
Hot and sour soup was neither hot or sour. They need to sample their soup.
Vegetable fried rice was full of large pieces of undercooked onions.
Vegetable chow fun was ok, nothing special or memorable here.
Vegetable lo mein, maybe the noodles could have been more tender and vegetables were undercooked.
Chicken and broccoli was ok.
Egg roll was ok as well.
The restaurant gives free items depending on how much you spend and you must have a coupon and then pay by cash.
With so many take out restaurants like this one, its easy to try different ones till you find one you like. I have found better Chinese food nearby, but I'm always searching for the one that will be our new favorite. Unfortunately I won't be ordering from Kai Li again

We had a great at this place. We liked the superb vibes and the food. The staff members were super friendly. I am glad we finally decided to try this place.

I place an order and part of it was missing so I called and went immediately back. Instead of an apology and or a complimentary item, all I got was a laugh. The food was cold and not as good as it used to be. I would not go back, there are better Chinese food places in the area.

I have been staying with in-laws in Stony Brook for the last few months because of the pandemic, and have frequented Kai Li multiple times. From the outside it is unassuming with a slightly outdated facade. Don't let this confuse or deter you, because their food is wonderful. We have eaten many of their dishes including sesame chicken, beef and broccoli, as well as a variety of noodle dishes, soups (egg drop soup is really good), and appetizers. All are flavorful and cooked to order, making it fresh and enjoyable to go back each time. The owners, Gina and Steve, are incredibly friendly and remember who I am, as well as their daughter who works the registers, is really nice and professional at the register. Kai Li is both a great value price-wise and a great take on a local Chinese cuisine, and I would highly recommend this take-out restaurant to anyone in the Stony Brook and Port Jefferson area.

My father and I have ordered from Kai Li on and off for years now and I am always satisfied with the food and the price. Despite our track record I'm sad to say I haven't much to say about the owners, (a personal failing,) but the place itself is a fine establishment, and I always feel welcome. I hope Kai Li will be here for years to come.

We love Kai Li! Owners Gina and Steve are the most kind people- they gave us a few free items on big orders. They are generous with portions and have kept fair prices even as other nearby Chinese restaurants have steadily increased theirs. Kai Li has the best sesame chicken in town- and an awesome $10 lunch special.

Also- we've been going to Kai Li for over 15 years- truly a neighborhood gem. This family-owned take out restaurant has been serving the community for so long- and continues to do so through COVID-19, hurricane Sandy, and tropical storm Isiah! During the pandemic, they have new protocols in place to keep everyone safe (e.g, heavy duty screen between staff and customers, online ordering system, gloves, masks, cleaning protocols). We love this local business!
