Kaji Sushi and Lounge, Garden City NY

Used to be amazing but now clearly cutting costs. Food is more expensive and they give you less. What they do give is sometimes just bad. Very sad because this used to be a go-to for me and my partner.

Consistently fresh and appetizing sushi. Excellent, friendly service, too. Highly recommend.

Stopped by for a quick lunch on our way home from work. Everything was great, food was super fresh and service was awesome. Highly recommend!

We went for this five star sushi place in garden city having high expectations! But unfortunately not happy at all because it wasn’t fresh or tasty! We ordered a variety of three combos making it about 9 rolls. Very unhappy!

The best Sushi around! Always fresh and delicious! I love going to this restaurant but I also have done delivery and they never disappoint!

Good food but extremely poor service! I ordered for a take out and the man who came to delivery was extremely arrogant. I was a minute late to come to the door and after taking the money he said arrogantly “you are so slow”
I was surprised with the behavior of this man! Please teach your servers and delivery people to learn some manners!

The food is good, the service is excellent and attentive. Just get ready to pay, it may be my imagination but, what was a dinner of about $150 now costs approximately $250. It is in need of an update.

Came here in the middle of the afternoon on a Saturday and the staff was so attentive and kind. We ordered the soft shell crab, shumai, unagidon, and sashimi lunch. All of it came out in a timely manner and everything was excellent. The sashimi and particular was so fresh and flavorful. Will definitely recommend and return.

I would not have expected the quality of sushi that I received from a restaurant with such a high general rating. Especially because there are some very good local sushi options, so it's always surprising when restaurants let such a bad order through. Maybe I caught them on a bad day, and don't know how interested I'll be in giving this place another shot just given local competition, but did want to post this review so that others can be aware.

Included in our order was a sashimi set and 3 separate rolls. There was huge variance in color between individual pieces in the rolls, and in the sashimi. This in itself can be ok and not always a sign of freshness, but unfortunately the taste proved the deciding factor as certain pieces were definitely fishy/rancid. Tuna had black/grey splotches, which I have never seen before. As stated, while visual cues aren't a definitive sign of freshness, they are a sign to be on your guard. I was lucky in that the taste immediately came through as not right, and was further confirmed through other slices of fish.

Edit: Added pictures of the tuna. The camera does not capture the grey splotches as well as I hope, but you can see more clear grey coloring along the inner edge.

Friendly and efficient staff, quick to be seated and delicious meals served. All you could ask for!

Amazing food, service, and ambience. Food was brought out promptly and tasted very fresh! The restaurant was clean and the music wasn't too loud. Dessert menu had lots of options and they all tasted extremely delicious. Highly recommend!
