Katagiri Japanese Grocery 59th Street Store reviews
18It's small but if you're craving Japanese products, Katagiri is a decent place in the midtown area. Prices are reasonable. They have warm dishes available too.
As usual.its a pleasure to come here.candies from japan.ready made ramen drinks.you name it.they have it.its like being in tokio.
Cozy little Japanese grocery store carrying fresh made o-nigiri, sushi, and ramen. Ramen making ends 4: 30p.
Excellent authentic Japanese mart. Great bento boxes that are reasonably priced for $10.99, excellent sushi to take home and cut yourself for 1/3 of the cost, and lots of choices of Japanese food/drinks.
Hidden gem.
I love anything Japanese. This small grocery store has a few things that I had in Japan, unfortunately, just not enough. Not their fault, I just wish to live in Japan so I have access to their super market!
A fantastic Japanese Grocery store. They have been located on 59th Street between 2nd and 3rd Avenues on the south side of the street for more then 30 years. Such a selection of packaged foods, Frozen foods, with choices of Japanese cuts of meat and Fish to purchase and take home and just keep in your freezer. They also have prepared fresh Bowl's ready to eat, and Sushi dishes. Very much worth going to visit.
They have a very good selection of drinks snacks and candy. The employees are very sincere and know me well. They have a very good selection of Japanese produce as well!
Bought fish cuts from here and 2/3 were inedible and must have been re-dated because they were incredibly fishy and metallic.
Terrible policies, they decided to kick me out together with my small service dog despite trying to Explain the puppy is hypoallergenic and no harm to anyone. Offered to pick him up and carry but still wasn’t good enough. Just despicable. Don’t recommend for the lack of basic human decency.
Great Japanese grocery store with awesome onigiri and sushi and a wide selection of everything else you'd expect to find in a real Japanese grocery store
Better bento choices and sashimi choices than the midtown location. Wide variety of Japanese goods. The closest thing you can get in NYC if you miss the convenience stores in Osaka.
I love this little grocery store for all my Japanese goodies! Especially love their fresh sushi that is prepared everyday soo good
Great japanese specialty deli. If you are craving something Japanese 90% they will have it and not be insanely priced. If you want a bulk order ask the staff.
I love Katagiri.
I've been shopping here for years. They have all the ingredients you need to prepare delicious Japanese meals at home. I love cold soba noodles in the summer and they have yummy frozen foods like gyoza and ramen for any time of year.
I've made miso ramen and added left over salmon.it was so good!
Today i bought Sun Noodles frozen tantan ramen but they have many brands and many broths to choose from. You can't go wrong.
The staff make great recommendations for the right sauces.
Fresh meats and even some prepared foods to go.
Right down the street from Bloomingdales and all the 59th street trains.
Favorite place for Asian supplies, ingredients and they have delicious food to go. I recommend the sushi - fresh and restaurant quality.
I have been shopping here for a couple years, but probably won't come here again.
The products are a little bit overpriced, which is fine because there are a lot of snacks and the store is convenient. But the on the most recent visits I felt nothing but the bad customer service.
They stopped giving free plastic bags recently like most supermarkets do. But one time I took my own shopping bag and the cashier complained and asked me not to take bags. Does that mean I have to purchase their tiny paper bag or take the products with my own hands?
And last time I was waiting in line while one of the cashiers just finished packing for a customer. It took a while the cashier to get ready and I had been waiting then looked at my phone for just a few seconds. The cashier mentioned above (who asked me not to take bag) reminded me with bad attitude and mumbled with other customers. I can't believe the casher did that in front of me (I am not sure if pretend that I can't hear or let me hear on purpose).
It is so disappointing and sad that just one cashier can ruin the impression for a store that I shopped before, off school and then off from work. But they won't mind. It is just a customer.
It's a bit out of the way from where I live to get here, but it's totally worth the trip every time, especially now that the bakery on 41st closed ().
For a small shop, great variety and selection of authentic Japanese foods, housewares, toiletries, and lunches to go.
I have been to this store many times and I honestly like the products and the fresh food they sale. But the customer service is seriously lacking and I question whether I will ever return. The store now charges 20 cents for a pack of soy sauce even if you order an item that would generally come with soy sauce! It's like charging for a package of ketchup with an order of fries. My bill at the store was almost $50, when I asked for soy sauce the cashier told me it was 20 cents. I found that appalling to be honest, because how could a store be so penny wise and pound foolish!? I explained I had just spent nearly $50, all the cashiers (2 of them) would say is "it's 20 cents for soy sauce, supply chain issues". I skipped the soy sauce out of principle and decided it was better not to return. So the store would rather lose $50 to save 20 cents, that's an unwise business practice in my opinion. Plus every other place still gives a pack of soy sauce as a compliment to my food.
