KIPP Academy Elementary School reviews
1 Compared to the quality of education, engagement and hospitality my son received at Harlem Children Zone this school (particularly this location) has been very unorganized, and inflexible considering such unprecedented times (Covid-19 and remote learning. For example, I am a Full time MSW student, which requires me to Participate in an internship in addition to course work, I am also a single mother that works and this school has lacked the understanding that parents have lives and responsibilities and may not be able to meet deadlines and due dates. My son was penalized in the sense that the school arranged to have the entire class dress up in costumes and my son was excluded because he did not hand his assignment in. Anyone with kids must understand how extremely devastating that can be especially under the circumstances their recreation is limited this school year. And also because it was not his fault that the assignment wasn’t submitted on time but mine due to an extreme school and work load.
If this was an incentive to encourage more students to submit assignments, then I think the school should consider putting their efforts into finding out why students are having trouble submitting assignments, and then collaborate on solutions to meet those challenges. Instead of penalizing students for circumstances that may not be in their control. Rewarding some and penalizing others creates division and isolation under already strenuous circumstances. I’m seriously considering removing my son mod school year and I’m praying that another school will accept him this late. Seriously consider other Charter schools. HCZ has an amazing program, teachers and staff.
