Larry's Freewheeling reviews
14Really, kind and lovely people! Great versatile frames for casual rides around the city. Would recommend!
Friendly, affordable bike repairs! I let my boyfriend ride my ebike and he treated it like a motorcycle, popped my chain and let one of the panniers get tangled in the back wheel breaking and bending the spokes and knocking the wheel out of true. I was so angry and upset about my beloved bicycle as my “handy” boyfriend tried to take it apart and fix it and just got grease everywhere and couldn’t straighten the wheel. Brought it into this store and Benny was so friendly and reassuring, replaced the spokes, got the wobble out of the wheel, put a new master link on the chain all within a few hours and saved my relationship in the process.all for $27.50! I can’t believe how affordable this place is. We can’t even get coffee and bagels for that price in this neighborhood any more. Now that I know a great bike mechanic I might even let my boyfriend ride my ebike again. THANK GOD and Thank you Larry’s Freewheeling!
The service was eccellent except they should be cognizant about returning screws and tools brought in by customer. After they get your money they treat u awful. I paid almost 125.00
Now the bike squeaks and i fell because some of the screws are loose. Find a more reputable bike shop. PLEASE.
Paid $50 to box my bicycle from here (near to Columbia campus so first place most people will likely go) to ship to Palo Alto, California. Paid another $180 for the service "bikeflights" to create the shipping label to add to the boxed bicycle.
My god what a terrible job they did. Took it to a real bike shop in Palo Alto and they told me they just took an old used bike box and put my bicycle in there and shipped it out to California. No padding inside either. I would have happily paid more than $50 for them to use a new bicycle box and add some extra level of protection to ship my bicycle.
If you're going to ship or box your bicycle definitely go elsewhere!
We rented two bikes recently and the bikes were set up well and of high quality. I worked with Rex and Tricia and they were both fantastic.
The staff here is welcoming and knowledgeable! I rented 3 bikes for a ride in Central Park and received quick service. The bikes were in great condition as well! Would recommend!
I came in to replace my single speed drive train and front wheel cartridge bearing. This my main mode of transportation, I use it to get everywhere. Honestly thought my front wheel was shot. Larry's shop showed me the parts up front and explained the work they were going to do, and charged a very reasonable price. My bike feels great now, everything was installed perfectly, and I will definitely be a returning customer.
Worth every penny! I swallowed a little when they told me the price for a check up but gave them a try. It took them a couple of days because they are busy or they take their trade seriously-I go for the later. I have a 10 year old rusty run down speed bike. When I went for a test drive to see what they did, I thought I had a new bike. The breaks break immediately, the gears shift smooth and I can ride with no effort. I fell in love with my bike again. Thank you Larry.
In last years service was much better. Recently things are difficult for bike shops because of issues with shipping and increased demand. However such problems are no excuse for bad service. Mechanics have asked for tips in addition to the cost of parts and repairs. The attitude of some staff there is unacceptable. One person told me “Hurry up” when contemplating a purchase. The same staff member demonstrates an extreme lack of professionalism. I Recently purchased a chain that was for sale there at twice the price it’s available for online. Generally I try to buy parts from shops as opposed to buying online so I decided to go through with it anyway. The chain was poorly installed and my concerns about it were dismissed as if I didn’t know what I was talking about.
The cashiers are helpful and understanding though. Shop is local and convenient for me but I’m gonna have to go downtown for better quality service. They do allow you to use their pumps for air and have a good selection of items for sale though. Hopefully the customer service of some can improve.
I got a tune up here, which cost me $87 with tax and when they returned my bike to me nothing was different except for some extra lube on my chain (which was working fine). My back brake was not adjusted at all, nor were the gears or anything else. It was a complete rip off. They told me it would take a day and it took two. I spent a sizable amount of money and got nothing for it, except for a bit of air in my tires.which were already filled.
Rode up with a broken lock bracket and they fixed it on the spot without trying to sell me a full lock kit. Very reasonable price and quick service. Found my new repair shop.
Professional service and fair prices. The owner is very friendly and fun to talk with while you're waiting for your bicycle to get fixed.
Just recently bought a new bike and being using it after awhile so I decided to take it to bike shop so they could do tune it up and do Major cleaning cause it need it. I left the shop without checking cause I was in a hurry. I had to drive 8 hours to Maine for Vacay. So I left the bike in my garage and then drove away. Little did I not know that bike was not in is normal conditions. So I came back from 3 weeks Vacay and start biking again and then I noticed that the bike was making a weird squeaky noise when backing it up. Larry wheels did not return the bike to it normal conditions when I drop it off. The bike didn't not make any weird noises when I drop it off for a tune up. The bike return with a problem. I hope they do a better job next time.
Sloppy and bad service. I came in to have my rear tube changed. Specifically requested to have the tire checked for debris. $15 and 15 minutes later I get the bike back COVERED in grease. Fast forward a few miles and the tire is flat again. Apparently the “mechanic” couldn’t be bothered (didn’t know how to?) to check the tire. Lazy, sloppy, and amateurish establishment. Stay away.
