Incredible neighborhood restaurant and true French dining! Intimate atmosphere and you can see the kitchen from your table.my steak au poivre was cooked perfectly.my friend ordered the soup du jour which was some kind of squash - a creamy delight! You can’t go wrong with anything you order here.the quality of the ingredients and skillful cooking are quite impressive.relax, enjoy and savor a meal at Le Grainne.

Went for breakfast a very nice atmosphere, busy but not crowded. The breakfast was good, but expensive.

This sweet spot was the highlight of a Chelsea birthday getaway. The city, and Chelsea in particular, offers many splendors that will steal your heart, but Le Grainne Cafe is that perfect mixture of “quaint” and “exceptional. ” The perfect spot for a Sunday breakfast, this cozy café will treat you to a perfectly crispy croque madame and the best French onion soup out of France itself that you will be able to find. The cherry on top of my experience was the manager, Danielle, who was inviting when I called in for a last minute reservation, and greeted my husband and I like family when we arrived. If the well-made culinary selections don’t convince you to book a reservation immediately, then at least do yourself a favor and make a reservation simply for the customer service that Danielle and her incredible team provide. And don’t pass up on the French onion soup, even if you think your other dishes will suffice.

When I lived in NYC this was my go to place for brunch on the weekends or after an all nighter shift at the hospital. So, now that I’m no longer live there. Had to pop in for breakfast my first stop back. Chef (J) was on point and the food was amazing per usual.
Server could have been a little bit more pleasant
However, if you're ever in the area go and enjoy so fresh delicious food and a nice big latte.

The food is very good but expensive for a cafe like this. They raised their prices after the pandemic. It used to be a place where you could stop by for a delicious snack. The food is always good but now they have restaurant prices. The pasta dishes are just as expensive as a high-end Italian restaurant with white tablecloths. A ham & cheese crepe and a bowl of soup came to $35 with tax & tip. They charge you 4% extra to use a credit card. They call it a convenience fee.

Cozy, intimate, neighborhood French bistrot. Love seeing people comfortable enough to dine alone. Very good meal and lovely service. But you will leave smelling like all the stuff they cook there due to lack of ventilation. And the bathroom needs an overhaul/more attention.

Outdoor dining they (my friends) said, it would be great they said. So we did. And the weather was conducive for outdoor dining on a perfect Sunday autumn afternoon. Unfortunately our Sunday brunch was marred by one issue – the potent aroma of urine that wafted across our table every now and then was enough to spoil an otherwise enjoyable meal. Jokes aside, what would you expect from a 9th Ave Chelsea restaurant with limited indoor seating. With regards to food, we ordered:

Nutella Banana Crepe - was delicious, you can’t go wrong with crepes sucres for brunch
Croque Madame - bread was cut too thick and the salad greens were slightly old
Spaghetti Bolognaise - wasn’t very authentic, but that’s fine for a French Bistro; the positive is that it was a very comforting, delicious dish
Escargot - was gloriously buttery and rich, and the server was happy to throw in extra slices of bread to soak up all that goodness
Jambon Beurre (Ham and Butter on a baguette) - was simple, well execute, just as you would find at a Parisian cafe

Overall, a positive experience - but would aim to be seated either indoors or at an outdoor table against the storefront window next time.

Great food but slow service, this place had open kitchen at 4pm while all the other restaurants were closed

I personally did not find it the most sanitary. The plates and utensils had smudges and did not feel the cleanest. The bread also had a dead mosquitoe in it? And this might not be entirely their fault but when I sat outside there was no shade and was super hot. The table also looks run down and overall I didn’t feel comfortable with the experience.

The food was okay, the place was nice, nothing amazing but nice. Nevertheless they had a real problem with the service. It took 15minutes just for then to give us the menu, another 15 for them to take the orders. After waiting a long time, they brought us the wrong order, and it had to be returned. When we order the check they brought us someone else's check. Maybe we just had bad luck, but I don't think I'll be coming back to find out.

Good but very standard and quite expensive for what it is. Also they don’t have good coffee!

My cousin was visiting from France, so I decided to take him there for Bastille day since I tried that place multiple times and love it. How surprised was I to discover that, for the first time since I moved to the neighborhood and started coming to this place, a 20% gratuity was already included on my receipt…. (Which could have been very misleading if I hadn’t checked before signing!) Be careful If you go and speak another language, they might overcharge you just because they assume you are a tourist! Not recommended.

Great atmosphere, good food and service at reasonable prices. Makes you think you are in Paris.
