Lefferts Historic House reviews
17Very cool place to look at from the outside. I wish that it was not temporarily closed though. Will definitely come back when it reopens
This is a very educational and beautiful place to go. If your into science and nerdy things, or even if you're not, this is a nice place to go to kill a an hour or two. My favorite was the indoor rainforest with all the butterflies. The place inside is rather expensive (food/souvenirs) and so are the tickets but you're in NY so that should be no surprise.
Great piece of history. Ask for a tour of the upstairs to learn more. Closed for renovation starting at the end of November 2019, though.
We have held our daughter's birthday party at Lefferts Historic House for the last four years and the kids have always had a blast. They all just love the old fashioned games and crafts.
It's a great place to step back in time I'm 7 and I really enjoyed it especially the lawn games and the stilts follow me on Instagram at Emperorkaioyus
The prospect park alliance had a Autism play day today and I was told that they host one once a month. They gave families free entrance to the Lefferts Historic House and taught children how families lived in Brooklyn back in the 1730’s. We washed clothes in the same manner they did back then. They had stilt walking which helps dig the soil. They had make your own soap. Me and my daughter made a orange oatmeal scented soap. The historic house has a three dollar admission but this event was free and they do have a tip box to help the program run. There is a bathroom in the house. We were there earlier than the food kiosk located next to the carousel so there wasn’t any food options available until around 12pm. I ordered me and my daughter Uber eats to the park. The historic house is located in the children’s corner where they have the carousel, boat house and prospect park zoo. I had a good time!
Helps tell the rich history of the area in one of the premier parks in the country. Prospect Park designed by Vox and Olmstead.
After finally visiting the Prospect Park Zoo, we took a pleasent little stroll, in and around the Lefferts Historic House.
It was a pleasent addition to our afternoon. Admission is suggested but not required. Helpful staff is attentive, friendly and well informed. Information/history was provided, and questions answered.
During our visit there was a hands on project (creating lip balm with bees wax and essential oils) that added to it for the kids.
It's always a treat to step back into history, especially where least expected, in such urban environments.
Side note: if this is your style, the you MUST visit the Van Onderdonk House in Ridgewood.
Its a great place to remember New York as it once was. The place features a working garden, historic artifacts, period rooms and exhibits. Visitors are encouraged to play with traditional tools, toys and games, and engage in historic activities such as candle making, sewing and butter churning. Its great for children to experience being in this house and also to learn the history behind this place.
The house is a bit small but I love going there! I have been going there I was very young. I also took my chidren when they were young, they loved it! They had a great time!
You must visit if you're a history buff to learn about Brooklyn's wonderful past, as today you'd never imagine such a simple life. It's great for adults and kids alike, with special programs throughout the year.
Fun and informative interactive museum with many quality artifacts. Staff is super friendly and there's alot to see!
I’ve went there as a child many times I was telling my son about it and took him today but it was closed and said only open on weekends I remember as a kid it was always open he was a little disappointed but I showed him around
Old Dutch farmhouse in Prospect Park. The house originally stood about 6 blocks away on Flatbush Ave and was moved here about 100 years ago. This house was built in the 1780's after the Leffert's first house was burned during the American revolution. Now a museum depicting life in the 1820s. Excellent guides. Terrific place for kids and on weekends sometimes has special demonstrations (butter churning, wool carding, etc) They ask for a donation for adults but no pressure and kids are free.
An historic house from the time of the Revolution. Self guided tours. Seasonal events. Set in the Park so it feels like it would have on the original farm.
I went today with my 3 kids (ages 7 and under) and we all had a great time. It is interesting for adults and kids.
Tip: Check their calendar for times of activities.
We our friends total of 7 had the best time during a Fall event. We practiced old school games and all 7 of us learned to walk in stilts. I have invited so many people since, to this adventure too!
