Lip Lab Williamsburg reviews
17This was my first time ever doing anything like this. I had a blast. The staff was hands on & professionally. The location was kept in tidy condition. Great for a group session all ages.
My friends and I were having a really good time with Manny & Alanna. They were so informative & great. However, the manager Rachel was extremely unnecessarily rude. Which killed our vibe. We were only excited, recording & having a good time while she spoke with nasty sarcasm & hostility. That is not how you operate a business. It took our experience from a 10 to a 7. I hope she learns some good customer service.
Pros: Really social and fun! If you have a good mixologist the color possibilities are endless. I made a "perfect nude" and a "perfect berry" At 40 a lip product it was definitely worth the price! I chose 2 sheer lipsticks and the sheer formula was WONDERFUL. One of my favorite formulas ever. Comfortable for everyday wear an super pigmented and buildable.
Cons: One of my lipsticks came out wrong in production and was way more brown than anticipated. I left before I realized this, but it's still a pretty shade. Our mixologist was okay at best. I forget the gentleman's name, but he was sort of dull, seemed uninterested and annoyed when I asked questions or wanted to change the colors he created. So that's a bummer.
Overall I'd do it again, maybe a different location or mixologist.
P. S This location doesn't have a bathroom for customers. Keep that in mind before arriving.
Myself and 2 friends decided to get custom lipsticks on vacation. We settled on our colors and once mine was poured it was a completely different shade than what was on my lips. I even asked the lady and she had to question the lady that helped me bc it looked so off and she said yes it’s correct. That night we went home to shower and change for an event and all 3 of us put on our new lipstick and not a single one of us had the color we had on our lips when we left Lip Lab. For $70 we are extremely disappointed and upset and will absolutely never be coming back or recommending this experience. My darker skinned fried and I ended up with tubes that are the exact same color, when I had a very deep purple red and she had a brown.
Not to mention that they don’t have a bathroom and you’re their for over an hour. They told my friend she could go around the corner to Whole Foods! What a waste of $70! This is absolute robbery.
10/10 experience, I got a custom lip balm and it was the perfect texture, shade, and scent. Because I picked it all HAHAHAHA so fun, I spent about an hour chatting with the mixer, she was awesome. I think her name was Hana? I’m bad at names she was super cool. Would definitely go back once I’ve finished this lip balm!
Only rated 3 stars because they sent us to whole foods to use the bathroom (we were there for over 2 hours) and I felt $70 was a bit much to pay for the quality of the lipstick. It seems to be a very thin mixture that doesn't go on very well. The experience itself was ok, our mixologist was very friendly and knowledgeable.
Worst customer service experience ever. Rachel was extremely rude and condescending and made the experience very unpleasant. Very sad because I would’ve recommended it otherwise, but it seems as though others had similar experiences with her.
I came to New York on a trip and with friends decided to do the Lip Lab, I will just say that it was a great experience because of Manny! He was our color expert and he made the experience great. He was knowledgeable and helped us along the process. If you book make sure to ask for Manny. He’s very relatable and a sweet heart would come back again and book him. It is pricey but the experience was worth it.
It was cute. Our host had a little dry personality. Its a little pricey for the texture of the lipstick. Maybe they will upgrade and have liquid lipstick to go on smoother. Beware: THERE IS NO BATHROOM
Two years ago for Christmas I bought my sister in law a gift card to do this together and we finally set aside some time for us to go during my last visit to NY. The shop itself is located quite centrally in Williamsburg, nearby Whole Foods and some other shops, with easy walking from the subway. Inside, there are about a dozen seats at the main bar, plus a small party room at the back for larger groups.
Your color theorist starts you with a sheet with color suggestions to give you a starting point for your color. From there, you pick a lipstick finish (matte, satin, sheer, or a balm) and the color you’re looking for. The color theorist will mix your colors and after each round, you try on your mix and make suggestions about what you like and don’t like, such as adding more brown or more red. You have about 4 or 5 rounds of this until you find the shade you like the best and you can also have them make suggestions for a color based on your skin tone. Next they mix up a batch based on the color percentages recorded during the mixing, and you pick your lipstick tube color, scent, and name (which they engrave on the top). Then they heat the mixture, pour it into the molds and chill it, before popping it into your custom tube and advise it’ll be ready to use in about half an hour.
For two people, the total after tax was about $140 for the whole experience, which took about an hour. So although it was on the pricy side, my sister in law both had a great time comparing colors and suggesting changes to our mixes. I was very pleased with our color theorist who talked us through the whole process and helped us find our perfect lipsticks. We both said we need to come back with our moms and do it again.
Really cool experience. Our color expert was very informative, friendly and created a sheer lipstick and lip gloss for me the color that I was looking for. Thank you. My complaint: not having a bathroom for your customers. You spend perhaps an hour & 1/2 at lip lab so if you need to go, you’ll need to go to Whole Foods across the street and use their public bathroom. So be warned people! Another thing that bothered me, I was told by the Soho location that I was able to give our color expert a tip after all services were rendered. However, we were not allowed in the Brooklyn location. Just not cool to prevent the customer give a tip if they want to specially if your color experts is creating for more than one customer.
Manny was great but gave them three stars for not having bathroom facilities for their customers. They have the nerve to send you to Whole foods.
Unfriendly staff, no bathroom available for paying customers, lights in mirrors were dead so we were unable to see colors well, wayyyyy over priced. Don’t waste your hard earned money! Unless they change management I will NEVER be back.
It was a really fun experience. The team is super knowledgeable about color theory and are very sociable. Definitely will be returning!
Celebrated a friend's birthday here. It was a beautiful experience and I love my lip color. I finally have a red lipstick that I can wear personally made for me.
Such a shame they provided a horrible experience for my daughter who flew in out of state to enjoy this experience with her sister. This was their first time celebrating her birthday together in 12 years. So sad businesses don’t know how to treat customers anymore.
The owner of this store is the rudest person ever. I thought Brooklyn small business owners were supposed to be nice and welcoming? She ruins the experience. Will never give them my business.
