Long Island Shooting Range of Brookhaven, Ridge NY

Not bad here just prefer Calverton more. When it's hot and bright out this is a better range. They both have their ups and downs. Calverton I feel like you have a little more freedom.

Love coming here! Calverton is the Wild West compared to LISR. The rules are strict but they are there for our safety. Warning. They will yell at you if you break the rules, if you don’t like the rules don’t come here.
All the range officers are super helpful and kind. I have learned a lot from Gary aka Mr. Awesome. He has taught me so much since I have started coming to LISR. From the way I’m sitting, using bags properly, siting, and to all the different ammos to better help my accuracy and grouping. When he’s there I’ll always take his side of the range, even if I really want to shoot at 100. I know if I’m having any issues I can call him over and he will help unhesitatingly. He loves to teach as long as you are willing to listen and learn.
Charlie is also another amazing officer. One week I brought 3 friends with me who have never shot before. He helped educate them on the safety of the range. Helped guide them through a very educational session for their first time shooting.
Thank you both for making this a fun and safe place to come to. You’re the best!

My father-in-law and I had a wonderful time here and will definitely head back ASAP. We're from Nassau County, and I've been to the public NC range many times, but the unsupervised aspect of that range just made me too nervous to enjoy any shooting with five other guys (who I can't see) shooting next to me in the same room. This range is the exact opposite. The range officers are attentive and focused on safety. The woman running the front desk was very pleasant. They sell many types of ammo at the front desk too. We just tried the pistol range this time, but I look forward to trying the rifle range and skeet shooting area as well. They also have archery - no crossbows. (This place is BIG.) Although Brookhaven is a 90+ minute drive from where I am, I'll never go back to the NC range; this place is perfect.:)

My son and I are relative novices but are both quite safety conscious & felt perfectly comfortable with the strict approach to safety here. The range officers are all very friendly and helpful but it’s clear that their first priority is everyone’s safety, which is how it should be. We enjoyed our visit and will certainly return.

I’m a firm believer that if you get a rude range safety officer it will ruin your entire day at the range and there are ranges that I swore not to go back to due to that exact reason. I ended up going to this range for the first time and brought my sister and uncle along. Luckily for us our range safety officer was Gary. Gary not only helped me sight in my rifle happily but made sure everyone was safe and explained the rules to everyone in a calm and respectful manner. More range safety officers need to be like Gary. I plan on coming back to this range soon and I sure hope Gary will be my range safety officer again, I sure will be asking for him.

Wonderful experience shooting here for the first time. Much different than Calverton. The range officers were all very kind & knowledgeable - they ensure that everyone feels safe & is properly handling the guns. Gary went above and beyond though - he was super helpful when we were missing a piece for a new gun and jumped in to make sure we were able to use it and enjoy our range day. He personally sat with me to train me on proper technique, sitting position, holding position. I basically received a whole training session that was so valuable and will not be forgotten. Thank you again Gary & the rest of the staff for making sure we had the best experience - we can't wait to come back!

I went for the first time and absolutely LOVED it.

The Range officers take safety seriously, which I really appreciate.

If you can listen, follow the rules, and apply a little common sense, nobody's going to give you a hard time.

The place is pretty clean especially when compared to the other outdoor range on Long Island. If you mostly go to Calverton, Brookhaven is more expensive, $11 more. I will defiently still frequent Calverton, as it is a bit close, but if I were with a group (especially with new shooters), I'd go to Brookhaven 100%.

Having a good experience for new shooters is so important, and nothing against the guys at Calverton at all, but Brookhaven is just a better environment for that.

There was a group with a new shooter and the Range officer was more than happy to show them the ropes. It's always best to learn from someone you don't know, you tend to listen more.

While there the range officers assisted a guy in sighting in his scope which is so nice to see.

I really liked it because I could shoot any Cal.up to. 50 (not a problem for me) at the 25 and 50 yrd. So it's great for zeroing in.

I really look forward to coming back.

P.s. From the poor reviews I've read, people don't like getting yelled at, or told what to do. I'd guess because they've shot guns there whole life, thing is, the range officers don't know that. When I arrived they watched me for a bit, and once the realized I wasn't an idiot they went and prioritized other new groups. You have to understand, if they've never met you, they don't know your history, you could be some idiot who just bought a gun.

I'd rather the range officers be obsessive about safety than not, even If I think there methods are excessive, I'm not paying the insurance bills. Anything that prevents me from being shot, is good with me.

Range cadre are just way over the top here and overcomplicate the running of this place. Only positive of this range is the overhang for shade.

First off, the range officers are exceptional. Safety is always #1 with any gun owner, as well as it is with them. They have strict rules, which is great, but they are always friendly, helping and always willing to talk.

The cost is higher, when compared to Islip Town Gun Range, but it’s all worth it. Recently my girlfriend had a jam & her scope was loose. A range officer took care of everything on the spot.

Also, I was trying to sight the scope on my rifle & another range officer came to help me until I was on paper.

I don’t want to bash anyone or place, but my experience here was & continues to be much more exceptional than the Islip Town Range.

Worth every penny!

I really like this place. I’ve been here quite a lot recently and will be going back as I will NEVER shoot at Calverton again.

I’ve never had an issue with the Range Officers. They have always been polite & helpful. I had a day where EVERYTHING went wrong and they were super helpful and patient. I've heard and saw some, “Yelling, ” but In every instance the shooter was doing something stupid. Remember the Range Officers are there to keep everyone safe. Respect the range, other shooters and the Range Officers; follow the rules and you'll be fine.

Nice little shop of you needs ammo, targets, earplugs. If your in Broohaven this is place to shoot and you get a discount as well.

Nice range but the one guy was kinda a bit too much i was in the military and I was never once taught to keep a gun pointed up in the air instead of to the ground he tried telling me the bullet will spray and fragments and that I would hit you but if I did have a accidental discharge I rather have the bullet spray then someone getting hit with a full bullet coming from the sky just what I’ve been taught and honestly I have a better time at Calverton so I’ll just keep going there for now not saying the range is bad but it’s the typical a personality types that run it that are know it all’s I get it was their safety rules but that’s a bit silly (ps I was transferring my unloaded gun with the action open to the bench and that’s when I was yelled at)

A great place to shoot! Safety is paramount and the range officers make this so. Charlie, one of the range officers offers tips such as the proper placement of the sand bags, targeting tips and generally makes sure that the experience is safe snd fun. I will definitely be back!

About as well kept as we have on Long Island. Range officers are helpful, and keep things moving. Some basic rules to understand and stick to. Good staff and good group of shooters usually. Safe, clean (for a Long Island range), and under control. Nobody will shoot at your target, sweep you, or leave a rifle pointing down range when you check targets.

I had Charlie supervised me. The place is very safe and friendly. Highly recommended. I enjoyed very much the place and the people.

Great place, nice atmosphere. 100yrd. 200yrd. More experienced shooters. 50yrd. Stay away from the knuckle head punks that can’t hit a target!

Friendly informative staff, stick to the rules, no BS, enforced by staff. Safest place to practice.

First, must say this place was great. Me, brother inlaw and father went on Saturday. We had an awesome time. From when we checked in at proshop with a very nice young lady to the range with an awesome staff of men, we couldn't ask for more. Alex is the only name I got from staff and he was great and rest of staff was great and very helpful. Highly recommend this place and will definitely be going back.
