Lukas is very friendly and knowledgeable. It was great so spend time around other violists at his shop. He has a great selection of instruments and will adjust them himself according to the needs of the buyer.

His violin maintenance jobs are like magician! Highest quality. There are wonderful custom made instruments and also good value ones for students, too. Highly recommended!

A few years back I asked Lukas to only adjust the sound post on my cello but he ended up cutting my sound post without contacting me first and made the sound post a bit too short. Even worse he also cut my bridge on the bottom and made the bottom much thinner. This was also without asking my permission or communicating with me in anyway first. My cello became quite unfamiliar and uncomfortable to play which also made me less motivated to play and practice.

At that time I had a cello teacher who actually recommended Lukas to me. Lukas actively asked me to consult my teacher after I pointed out the problem to him and the fact he cut parts without my permission. When I mentioned this incident to my teacher, he defended the luthier a bit too proactively including calling me "paranoid" and repeatedly asking me not to contact my insurance company. I trusted my teacher a lot but was bothered by the obvious conflict of interest (as many musicians, he had a good relationship with the luthier) and wished he interfered less. Eventually I stopped taking lessons because I was bothered by the situation among other reasons.

I visited other cellists and musicians later and all of them disagreed with the work Lukas did, especially the one on the bridge (the bottom really looks too thin). I had to purchase a new sound post and bridge but the cello never felt the same. The effect of his poor work lasts until today. After digesting all the disappointments and emotions, I still feel writing an honest review about my experience and think it may be useful to whoever in my position, so here it is.

After 19 years of playing on my beginner cello, Lukas helped me find the perfect upgrade. He's very interested in matching the right instrument to the player's needs and making it work within your budget. He has a good selection of old and new instruments for you to try. Once I found a good possibility, he let me take the cello home and try it for a week so I could really evaluate if it was the right one. He made a few adjustments to tweak a couple sound issues and now the cello is mine! Overall a great experience, plus I know I have a master luthier to keep my cello healthy in the future.

I’m very happy with the violin I purchased, both sound, quality and price! Lukasz took the time to let me try a variety of excellent instruments and set up and adjusted the one of my choice for free. I highly recommend him!

My experience with Lukas has been incredible! As a student musician, he has offered me lots of valuable information, every time I go there I learn more about instruments and he and is open to any questions you may have.

I purchased my viola and bow from him during a pandemic and I couldn't be happier. He is kind, knowledgeable, respectful, patient, competitively priced, and flexible with hours. If you play a violin, viola, or cello you should definitely schedule a visit with Lukas, your instrument will thank you!

Fair and reasonable prices, nice guy, great customer service, overall a good experience. He has no problem answering questions, and has no problem with you taking your time. Also great selection of violins.

Lukas is an honest, extremely knowledgeable luthier,
cello/violin sales person, who takes the time to understand your concerns and expectations. I have dealt with a few other sales stores, ie: David Segal, only to find out that the instrument I purchased was overpriced and misrepresented. This is the one place not out to just make a buck!

No one, but NO ONE can adjust my violin the way Lukas can! He's conveniently located and VERY flexible with his hours- unlike most shops. He also does great bow rehaires!

This guy really care! One of my violin had a cosmetic blemish after something fell on it.i took it to another luthier and the best they can do is repair about 70 percent of it.i felt the repair could've been better so i took it to lukas, not only did he charge less but he did a better job than the other luthier, he is extremely diligent in his work, reasons being he finish the repair in 1 week, but noticed sublet imperfection left by the previous luthier, instead of passing it off to me as the best he could do, he instead called me and said he needs another week to sand down the varnish and do it again.what a guy! Most luthiers would only spend certain amount of time based on how much they were paid.but lukas breaks that traditional notion.you know you got a fantastic luthier when he cares more about customer relationship than just pure profit and proficient in what he does.out of all the nyc luthiers i been to, lukas offers the best quality service, he also carries a good variety of european and chinese violins that i got to try out while waiting in the shop, if you do plan on visiting his shop, i suggest making an appointment rather then show up unannounced, as his shop does get busy, both time i went it was a full house, and i can see why!
