Madam ji is your typical bohemian style Indian restaurant with an interesting menu, and a popular brunch spot near NYU.
It's known for its bottomless mimosas that go well with the fusion food and is great if you come with your gang of friends.
I tried their pav Bhaji Sliders, chole bhature and butter chicken sandwich - and was kinda underwhelmed with the taste and quality. The Bhaji had tad too much garam masala, the chole tasted sour/average and the butter chicken sandwich was dry with little makhni sauce to really hit the spot.
The mimosas are decent - you can get orange, mango and blueberry. Definitely gets you tipsy in your third round.
Service is quick and ambiance is okay - the place plays loud music and so not really a place to have an intimate conversation.
Overall a decent place - keep your expectations low and voice high.

Lovely Biryani and staff. Nice selection of flavours on the menu. If I lived in the area I’d be frequenting this place all the time! Thanks

Food is okay, over priced drinks with 20% gratuity pre added is terrible since the staff can be completely inattentive and yet you are forced to give them 20% tip.

Really good atmosphere, food is tasty and well made, alcoholic drinks are pricey though, naan basket with meal fo choice is top tier

We had a group dinner here on a Monday evening and we loved all of the small bites and large bites that we ordered. And the atmosphere and staff were great, too!

I came by TooGoodToGo app the meal was coast $5 instead of $15 meal. When you see in the pics the portions looks bigger than they put on a meal from TooGoodToGo. It’s not fair! This a real cost $5 meal than it should to be on the app ‘s $15.

Nothing to complain about food which was delicious.
But I wish they keep the outdoor dining tables/chairs clean. It was absurdly dirty.
Great happy hour drinks.

Interesting concept, but the food is average at best. The bottomless drinks at brunch were mostly juice and very sweet. The music was also deafeningly loud. We asked the staff numerous times to lower the volume as we were the only group there (a group of 10). They lowered it for a few minutes, and then raised the volume right back. Definitely made brunch less enjoyable unfortunately.

Only good thing about here is the food. We went for my friends brunch and we had a 2 PM reservation. We didn’t get seated until 2: 20. She requested outdoors and then got indoors. When we did get indoor seating they are short staffed and were overbooked so we didn’t even get the proper glassware for drinks and took them a while to take our order. The food was very good though so I do suggest maybe trying the dinner? But I don’t recommend going for brunch.

The food at Madam ji is not really that special. We asked for Hyderabadi Bryani some Daal and rice and Flat bread The bryani did not really live up to the Hyderabadi reduction and also the Daal was really not that flavourful The Nan bread was nice. The service was mediocre I probably wouldnt visit Madam Ji again

Found them on FEVER with a $59 deal, dinner for 2 people plus wine, however when you arrive at the (empty) restaurant you're told you need to pay an extra $35 for service and tax. How they got to that number I would never know but it's pretty outrageous, especially since the entire meal is basically a sampler presented on one plate. What a rip off.

The place also has weird lighting that's way too bright and there are flies everywhere.

The only reason I gave 2 stars instead of 1 is because the waitress was actually very nice and cool but she needs to go work somewhere else.

Went for a good restaurant week "thali" at this place. The food was good. They also made exception to the non-vegetarian dishes for our vegetarian friends. The servers were very polite which is so rare in NYC these days. I loved the food but would have liked it more if it was made extra spicy as per my request, had pickels, onion and papad in their menu. They do add the tip into the bill itself so a word of caution there. The restaurant Week thali overall was very good deal especially paired with wine. Will come again for Pav Bhaji.

This place can def do better. We went there for birthday brunch. Pav bhaji sliders and veggie burgers were good. Cocktails - not so much.

I was excited when we planned to catch up at this restaurant! The premise was promising. Me as a person from the region of origin for this cuisine was looking forward to see how they've modernized it!

We ordered drinks and appetizers and decided not to stay for dinner. The service was extremely slow. Maybe that was just for that day specifically. More importantly though, a couple of the appetizers basically had the same sauce and I didn't see any creative modernization of the cuisine.

We booked it through seated app. They offer discounts. As we entered, we got our table and the table looked cute. The place is clean. We ordered snacks which I would say were not great.we ate chillie paneer but returned chillie cauliflower as it was hard to chew. The waiter happily cancelled it off from the bill. Then we ordered dal makhni and garlic naan which I must agree was very tasty. Had good garlic naam after a long time. Must try food item. I didn't use the restroom but my husband told me that it wasn't clean. I hope they keep it clean going forward. There was a billing error where the items in bill was priced higher and also they added 20% gratuity automatically. We highlighted both and the waiter was courteous, accepted the mistake and corrected the error.so please check the bill whenever you go. All in all, I was to give a 3 star but the dal makhni, garlic naan and humble staff gained an extra star. Consider it a 3.5.

I am from north India so I know what authentic food tastes like. I ordered baigan bhartha (roasted eggplant in a rich tomato/ onion gravy) and paneer makhani for my main and spinach aloo tikki chaat for my appetizer. The chaat was totally missing the oomph of chaat. The bhartha was swimming in oil and did not taste tangy like it's supposed to. The amount of oil in the food made my tummy upset!

Overall really unimpressed with the quality and taste of the food here.
Two stars only because the roti was pretty spot on

This area of Bleeker Street near NYU known more for a bar scene than fine dining; this restaurant has indoor & outdoor seating serves alcohol & has good food ; on the $$$ for Cocktails food items moderately priced; all in all was good experience;

I woke up craving biryani for a late lunch. After a quick search, I decided to try Surya and was pleased. The food was delicious with portion size just right for my party of 3. There was no wait for a table and the staff was friendly. Not pictured is the chicken biryani and spinach dish we order to go with the tandoori chicken (which is among the best I've had yet).
