Fantastic hotel, in a wonderful location. Top notch.

However, the service was poor. In my room a room service trolley was left with other guests trash placed on it, I asked the front desk to remove this at their leisure (as I was going out for the evening), but on my return it was still there. And so it was there until I checked out. For a hotel of this quality and cost, this isn’t acceptable.

One of the best hotels I have ever been to. You will not be dissappointed. Check out the hotel.

The Mandarin Oriental, along with the St. Regis and Peninsula are my three favorite hotels in New York City. Family has stayed at this MO atleast a half a dozen times, but we've been here on many occasions as well for spa visits, afternoon tea, dinner at the former restaurant, drinks at the bar, and even for an event in their ballroom. You can't beat the location which is within the heart of Columbus Circle, right on the edge of Central Park. Also, this hotel is attached to a shopping mall that has a number of great restaurants inside. All things considered, this Mandarin Oriental is probably the best hotel to stay at while visiting NYC.

The door men were a complete jerks. They bullied me with their poor attempts at kindness in order for me to give them tips. When I did not tip them, they became very rude. I will not be returning.

I will start by saying the staff was incredible, other than when I was departing trying to get my car even when I called ahead over 20 minutes I still ended up waiting for 30 minutes in the inside entrance and not really given the time of day, granted I don’t look like the typical clientele. As someone who comes from background of traveling all over and owning multiple cleaning and facility management companies, I was relatively disappointed in the room presentation. For a 5 star hotel and room costing over $1000 a night I was expecting expecting a slightly more put together and maintained room. I went to take a shower and the body wash was empty and had to call up body wash. The room was very dusty in places that should be routinely cleaned and this was noticeable when I woke up and felt stuffed up in a stuffy environment. The main touch points of room were in good but overall for someone who just wanted to relax in the room it was not good, dust behind tv, on desk, tv stand, sprinkler housing. Broken drawers, shelf on wall at entrance like falling off wall. Overall not that impressed and with all the options would be hard pressed to stay again.

I wanted to be wowed by this hotel and their ballroom, but was a little underwhelmed by it all.
The staff was great. The food was ok.
Then the night of my event, 10 people were stuck in the elevator for 20 mins.
I really wanted to like them, but.too many small things added up to larger problems.

I wasn't going to write this review but it's very clear there is something fishy going on with the MONYC reviews page here on Google. We stayed here in August and leading up to our trip the hotel would receive middling reviews, maybe one or 2 a week. All of a sudden they're flooded daily with 4 and 5 star reviews, mostly from accounts that don't write anything and/or have only that one review. It's clearly bots and I wonder if MONYC has something to do with this in an effort to increase the stars associated with their very-much-needing-an-entire-hotel-rennovation hotel. I've stayed at several of MOs and this NYC hotel has really ruined the brand loyalty for me.

This hotel charges above Four Seasons prices and it is really Marriott level and quality. Our room was smoky smelling and musty, every surface was scratched and dinged, paint chipping from the walls or slathered on heavily over old paint, carpet stained, hallways very dark and everything looking outdated. We checked in in the middle of the night or we would have immediately checked out. I slept poorly because of the cigarettes, told the front desk the room smelled of cigarettes and asked to be given a new room. It was promised before normal check-in time. Three o'clock comes around and the room is not ready. Four o'clock and still not ready. Front desk person says, "I don't know why the other front desk person told you it would be ready by 3. " Five o'clock it's finally ready and though not smelling of cigarettes, just as badly in disrepair. We found old toenails on the chair in the room and someone else's hair in the shower. The office chair at the desk with splattered with some white substance and the headboard had greasy finger prints on it. When we reported this to the front desk they apologized and comped our lunch. $1,000/night for this, for a base room.

Strangely the pool and fitness center close early in the evening (Hampton Inns in small towns have their fitness centers open 24 hours and this is NYC) and even more strangely there are only 2 chairs for the entire pool area. I was lucky enough to get 1 to read a book and while sitting there a number of guests walked in and couldn't find anywhere to put their things, so they either put them on the wet pool floor or left. Also, a number of employees had pulled conference room chairs onto the pool deck and were just hanging out chatting loudly.

I could continue to give more examples but I'll leave it at that. The whole 3-day experience was bizarre and honestly I wish we would have switched to another hotel instead of just sticking it out. This hotel is bad and I am no longer a "fan" of MO.

My husband and I have been frequent guests of the MO NYC for years. We, and our best man and his wife, stayed there the weekend of our wedding. As such, it holds an extra special sentimental place in our hearts. For our subsequent anniversaries, we would come in and stay to relive our wedding memories.

Returning to the city post-covid has been an odd experience. So many people and places are gone, and a lot of what were the more traditionally elegant NYC experiences have been traded in for a more casual and informal tone, which is not something that I enjoy. An exception to this is the Mandarin Oriental. The MO has REMAINED an elegant 5-star experience. It is refreshing. I feel the need to call attention to the superb, five-star MO staff as being the backbone of this feeling.

When I say staff, I mean ALL staff, at every level. From Johnathan and Yarisol at the front desk, to the servers in the lounge, the room service servers, housekeeping, the spa staff and most especially the team of gentlemen who work out front in all weather conditions. Please forgive me, as I do not know their official titles, but I will do my best to elaborate. In this I am including the bellhop/footmen/doormen/valets, the drivers and, if their title is different, the gentlemen who greet you and arrange for transportation when the MO cars are not available. Their level of personal care and personal investment in guest comfort is more than commendable. They make you feel like a celebrity. You can’t teach that level of customer service. They are thoughtful, helpful, beyond polite, discreet, kind and considerate in so many small ways. I am often wearing rather foolish high heels out to dinner. They never fail to make sure that I don’t walk over the sidewalk grate and break my ankle. They check every time to see what I have on my feet and guide me around the danger zone, or have the cars, when space permits, pull up to an area that doesn’t have an obstacle course.

When we first returned in July, we were personally greeted by staff, who not only remembered us, but also remembered places we had been, places we liked to eat, personal anecdotes and Broadway shows that we have seen. I know that the pandemic has been hard on the hospitality industry, but the truly important things at the MO made it through the pandemic, and by that, I mean the incredible staff, luxury accommodations and an elegant NYC hospitality experience.

The service was good. I would have expected a bigger room service menu. The room was good and the view was amazing.

Very rude staff. Manager of the restaurant was extremely rude. Honestly it’s a shame and disappointment for the mandarin oriental.

Best of all times. Bedding, top-notch room service, La Prairie range, Valmont Shiseido in the rental room, and finally the large bathroom. Hairdresser, beautician, makeup artist ready from 5: 30 in the morning. Magnificent view of Central Park and Columbus Circle, even if the decor needs to be reviewed, Lounge on the 35th floor, breathtaking view and very original cocktails

It was an incredible experience as we wanted to stay close to the places where we would meet with clients. The structure and operation were perfect, as was the governance sector as everything was always well organized and clean. The impressive courtesy of the reception was also a plus. We will be delighted to return to this hotel. Thanks

One of the best experiences!
From the day we arrived, until checkout time, not to mention accommodation and meals.
Affordable price, I’ll be back more often
