Maru Sushi & Ramen Bar reviews
19Had crab rave roll and fire cracker. The spicy tuna in the firecracker roll had so much Siracha I don’t think there was any fish. Hard to eat and was done after one bite. The crab in the rave roll tasted off like it wasn’t clean. Tried my husbands and the tuna slices tasted like that pink dyed gross stuff you get from the frozen section at the grocery store. His spicy tuna roll was the same just loaded so much with siracha you can’t taste anything else. Gyoza was underwhelming just meh. My kids had the tokontsu ramen and I tried some. Pork was ok flavor not the best and the broth was bland. Noodles weren’t very appetizing either. I’ve had sushi from east to west coast and this was almost the worst. My husband had food poisoning later that night. They did take the rolls I didn’t eat off the bill though.
A great place for Ramen and sushi. I had the Shoyu Ramen which is a Ramen with sliced chicken and cabbage in a soy sauce chicken broth, served with Ajitsuke egg. I also tried tge Gyoza which is a dumpling with a chicken and pork mix. Finally, I tried the sushi, salmon and cucumber and eel and cucumber. These foods were amazing. Cooked well and great flavor!
Their sushi gave me food poisoning. Maybe their non-raw stuff is okay? But I wouldn’t get raw fish sushi from them again.
Edit: it was a recent Sunday, when they DO serve lunch.
In the old California Rollin location, looks the same. Service pretty bad, waiter was nice enough but had to be reminded numerous times for just about everything. Forks, napkins, water over and over, so annoying. Food not great, tempura app was ok, had one roll we said was ok, the other we both disliked. Think the sauce that topped the rolls was the issue, tasted like BBQ sauce, yuk. Wouldn't return. Was about 60 degrees inside restaurant on a chilly Sept night, we froze.
Amazingly fresh and tasty sushi! The staff is friendly and fun and the vibe is clean and inviting. This is a must try for anyone that appreciates great sushi!
I'll tell you what folks, I have never had a bad meal at Maru. The food is always fresh and phenomenal!
The staff couldn't be more pleasant and welcoming. It's almost like having a meal at home when you're sitting at the sushi bar chatting with the chefs too!
On my first trip to Rochester, Maru proved to be my "go to" place for dinner.
The sushi is fresh and the staff is welcoming.
I had a remarkable, kind, professional, and knowledgeable server named Dani. Each night, she helped me choose the best meal for evening whether it involved sushi, sashimi, maki, green tea, sake, and even dessert.
Dani is not only an exceptional ambassador to Maru but to the City of Rochester as well.
I do hope Maru expands their sushi menu a little to showcase more variety.
While in Rochester, I hope this becomes your "go to" establishment as well.
Extremely friendly staff, very clean. The food is amazing. Best sushi in Rochester hands down. Get the sashimi yellow tail app!
Hands down best sushi in Rochester! Excellent service, delicious and fresh sushi every single time.
Great little sushi and ramen shop for fresh food, great service, and a relaxing atmosphere.
If you have had any thing resembling authentic ramen, this place is not for you. If you still choose to try Maru, when it comes to the food, set your expectations very low. The staff are super helpful and friendly. The restaurant is clean and spacious. The food, on the other hand, severally disappointed. Maru offers only fried shumai, which has no shrimp just dough in the inside. The dough shumai explains why it has to be fried. The ramen was the worst, the broth had no flavor whatsoever. No major options to add to your ramen, I.e. Corn, seaweed etc. As stated, if you have had authentic ramen experiences, this place is not for you.
I LOVE THIS PLACE! Literally the best sushi i’ve ever had, so fresh so clean! The workers were super nice, and the atmosphere is so lovely~ if ur looking for somewhere to eat, come here.if ur not looking something to eat, still come here.you’ll love the experience:)
The food here is so good! And the staff is kind and accommodating. Will definitely come back and recommend to other people
The sushi was ok. Not the best I've had but certainly not the worst either. The tuna tartare had little flavor but the coral reef was good. Service was fantastic.
Nice location, ramen was 4 of 5 stars service was 5 stars. No draft beer and the bar seemed like it was half closed. Waitress was very nice.
Amazing sushi. The only thing to be aware of is that the online ordering estimate isn't super accurate, as they were only starting to make my order at the time the website said the order should be ready. Worth waiting an extra 10 minutes for though! And not a single mistake with our huge order, which has happened at other places too many times to count.
Edit: we went here again for a family member's birthday (this time we dined in), and our server Dani was wonderful. She was friendly and funny, and when she heard about the birthday, she brought us a special small dish to celebrate!
We always have amazing service and food when we come here. The sweet potato rolls are simply amazing
Incredibly slow service. Counted 20 total customers, at 4-5 tables; 3 waitstaff could not keep up. Wife ordered Sushi took 15 mins and then had wait another 15 mins for my ramen. Had to ask for drinks
I’ve been here over 10 times and it’s always absolutely amazing. Never issues with the orders or the plating and when there is they make it up and very well. All the staff is awesome and the seating is nice. Will be coming here for years to come
