Matthew's Seafood House reviews
17 Had a server drop off the incorrect item to the incorrect guest. That guest started eating the food not knowing it wasn't theirs. We requested if we could get another order, as to which the server said "we'll you guys ate it so you need to pay for another"
It wasn't even a large meal. It was an appetizer. This will be the first sub 4 star review I give in over 5 years. Excellent job Matthew's, you hired a gem in that server.
Just went to Matthews for dinner last night for the first time. No wait for an outdoor table (Thursday) at 6: 30 pm on a beautiful August evening. Service was exceptional and friendly. Olivia, our server was as much a pleasure as she was efficient. We got clams on the half shell, baked clams Matthew, wedge salad, mahi mahi, and the Mediterranean Halibut. All were fantastic! The setting, on the bay is a treat. Many reviews I read included negative comments on the prices. Not that much more expensive than other restaurants we have eaten at on the mainland, so not sure what others are complaining about.
The worse thing I have to say is that the tables for 2 are quite tiny. Won’t deter us from returning, though!
Matthew's is our favorite restaurant on FI.
The drinks are always on point. Food is always fresh. And it has best view in our opinion. Very friendly staff.
Great seafood, on the great south bay with beautiful views. If you're in Ocean Beach put this on your list. Also there's a seafood market out front.
Food was right on. Service excellent. This Ocean Beach Gem is shining. Can't get better Sea Food anywhere.
I stopped here for lunch simply because it was the first stop on my trek west from Sailor's Haven. I expected a slightly overpriced meal (and of course it was) but I still thoroughly enjoyed the view of the bay while I ate a modest lunch of fish and chips. The fish was fresh and the 'chips' were nice. The portion was just right for lunch but at dinner prices - it's Ocean Beach - they need to make their money in the summer!

Not a bad experience for a Tuesday afternoon in mid July.
Always delicious and both lively and laid back simultaneously. Have been dining here for over 30 years and has been consistently wonderful. Friendly and great bar scene from hh until closing. Sunday Bay Bash always fantastic.
The scenery was unbelievable the food was good extremely overpriced but that's what it cost to go over to fire Island service was mediocre at the bar not too shabby otherwise
Exceptionally mediocre, which is particularly upsetting considering the price tag.
The food is okay.not bad, just nothing memorable.
The drinks are just awful. The bartender has no concept of his role at the restaurant, even something as simple as adding lime and some triple sec/agave/contreau/something besides ice and tequila to a margarita.
If it wasn't for the wonderful server who did everything she could to make our experience any less painful, would have given 1 star, and that's generous.
Overall, my experiences with Matthews are not good through the years. Gave it another try and the same result. Overpriced, below average food and slow service from the kitchen. Average price was more than $60 per person for 3 adults and 5 teenagers (no bottles of wine). Nobody in our party ate more than half of their meal.
There are much better places to eat in town for much less $$$ if you are willing to give up waterside. I'll be bypassing Matthews next visit.
Don't waste your time here. I came here on the 4th of July (today) and the lady manager working had a horrible attitude. The waitress agreed that she is not nice.
Absolutely the best lunch I've had on Fire Island! The spicy margarita was perfectly balanced - spice, sour, sweet and salt. And, the mussels were sublime with the light but flavorful broth finishing with a hint of licorice provided by caraway seed.
And the staff was professional, friendly and properly attentive!
Would have been a great experience but the lady manager Jen is such a mean person. She ruined our 4th of July for the people that I was with. I would dine elsewhere. This is not the place.
Waiters are nice, food is good, drinks are good, dockmasters are awesome. Jen the manager is not a nice person. Very dismissive and just mean.
Almost everything is great about this place except for Jen the manager she is unpleasant to deal with. Hopefully you don't encounter her during your stay.
You can easily find better food and you won’t pay more than you will here. 9 people in our party. An empty restaurant on a Tuesday nite. All 9 dishes were awful, and they wouldn’t even allow us to do 3 separate checks for 3 families.we had to do all the math to run separate cards. Just find somewhere else.
I would go to the Mermaid if you're looking for a dog friendly place. This place is hit and miss. Don't make it you're go to place.
