Metropolitan Opera House reviews
14A classic experience. However, avoid the boxes like the plague. Far too small for normal humans. Honestly, MET.fewer people, higher prices if you're worried about revenue. Far too uncomfortable to do this more than once. Look to the SF opera house for how to manage the boxes.
Attended a viewing of Carmen. The performances of the orchestra and those on stage were flawless. The contemporary reinterpretation of this opera added to its approachability, but likely would not have affected my overall experience.
The venue is as grand as it gets. My only note is that it can get very warm (bearing in mind that I went in the middle of January and was wrapped up for the snow - sitting in a theatre with hundreds of others was inevitably going to bring out the worst in my clothing choices).
The queue for the bar and toilets during the intermission will seem daunting, but everybody will eventually be able to visit both (which was my experience).
Book as far in advance as possible to avoid disappointment.
It was my first time attending the Opera, and it was fantastic.
The music, the costumes, and the talented performers were all perfect. Can't wait to go back it was a night I'll never forget.
What could one possibly say about this opera house, a haven for all things supernal?
You should go.
From the outside, IMPRESSIVE! Inside, however, there is nothing special. Not to mention the toilets with the school-style white tiles. Our Opera House in Stavros Niarchos Makran is BETTER.
Basically, there is no comparison. DAY WITH NIGHT Honestly!
I love the Met and La Boehme opera and we attended Monday evening. We had good orchestra seats; however, I was seated next to a big guy who was coughing, breathing loudly, sniffling etc and I had to cover my face with my scarf as I couldn’t access my mask deep in the purse and sit back in the seat so he wouldn’t breathe on me! After first act we left the seats and told an usher we couldn’t sit there and he asked if we wanted to meet with the house manager but we declined as no point and he advised us to just find seats somewhere else and we ended up sitting in the rear of orchestra. So many people were coughing endlessly around us and very few masks worn (I put mine on) and sadly I will not be attending in the winter again when RSV Covid is high. All of this intense coughing was a major distraction and we couldn’t enjoy this beautiful opera as we should have been able to.
Excellent! Loved the opera, great experience, parking is expensive @ the met but convenient. I really recommend visiting the Metropolitan Opera at least once for culturale experience.
We saw LA Boheme. Fifth time there. Always a wonderful experience. Best house in the city.
Good service and nice space. Carmen was awesome. I do have to say that 8 dollars for a ginger ale is surprising, but it's the Met.
Such a beautiful space, and great performances BUT BE ON TIME because you will not be let into your seating area even if you arrive 2 minutes past show start time. You'll be wandering the hallways- bar inside though
Excellent, fast entry, everything organized and top quality. We saw Carmen, highly recommended.
Always a great time here! An establishment that is beautifully taken care of. The orchestra was marvelous! The singers and actors were great! The show was a holiday show, my niece loved it and so did we.
Wonderful productions. (Not all the modern ones) The cameras can be annoying when they have a live broadcast.
One of the bigger opera houses I have been to. There is a little sacrifice on the acoustics with this size but this is all made up by the grandiose productions allowed by such a large stage and venue.
Nabucco, the “Jewish” opera, is what I saw here and I was impressed at the set pieces and at some of the arias by performers. Overall I would like to see another production to make a definite rating on this place — but from this visit, I can tell I will be coming back.
